Summary: A Very Weak Horror Spoof
Review: I love horror movies. I love spoofs. I even like off beat, campy spoofs that take odd points of view on the things they parody. Any and/or all of these would make me happy ... But to my tastes, 'Cabin Fever' WASN'T any of those things.

There are a lot of reasons different horror fans are into horror. Some like the "jump out of your skin" scares ... some like the splattering blood and stomach churning gore ... some like the more indulgent use of frequent nudity and cheezy sex ... some like intelligent, mind bending plot twists (in those that really have plots) ... some enjoy the opportunity to laugh at things that in real life we just couldn't ... some like the mix of sexual tension and terror. I can appreciate any and all of these reasons to get into a horror flick and really enjoy it. But the way 'Cabin Fever' came across to me wasn't so much as a horror flick as perhaps a spoof of a horror flick. There wasn't enough gore for the gore fans to be satisfied ... no where near enough truly frightening scenes to satisfy the scare junkies ... the nudity and cheezy sex were JUST enough to make you wish there'd be a whole lot more and wonder why there wasn't. The plot (and yes, in it's own odd way, there was one) wasn't all that original, new or interesting. As for tension ... there wasn't any, regardless of the flavor. If this was a serious attempt at a horror movie, it was just dreadfully weak and, in my opinion, failed on all counts.

But, having watched it through, I don't think it was a serious attempt at horror. It played MUCH more like a spoof of horror. And, in and of itself, I have nothing against that. I think spoofs are a perfectly worth while angle from which to make a movie, and as a horror fan I've always enjoyed the better spoofs. But, 'Cabin Fever' isn't one of those either. The humor only made me grin occasionally, not laugh.

Aside from laughs, I count on spoofs to display some insight into both the better and worse examples of the genre they're spoofing and to play clever games with the more common themes that fans of the genre will quickly recognize. This movie only did that at the very weakest and disinterested level.

I came away from this movie with the vision of two or three guys sitting around a table one Saturday night, downing bears and making dumb jokes ... they stumble on the notion of making a spoof of a horror flick ... but they're afraid that it will play like a rip off of 'Scarey Movie' ... so they decide to make something in between a straight horror flick and spoof ... but they never get a very clear or good idea of just where in between the two they want to be. This movie has moments that are almost funny ... almost scarey ... almost disgusting ... almost insightful ... almost sexy ... but not even almost tense.

As either a straight horror flick or a spoof, I found this movie uninteresting, unstimulating, only mildly amusing and utterly disappointing.

Now ... I did give it two stars for SOME reason.

A) I think the two women chosen to play the key female roles (Cerina Vincent & Jordan Ladd) in this flick have potential. They were both easy on the eye and brought more to the roles of their characters than did the writers of the script. I hope we see them again.

B) SOME people WILL enjoy this movie. If you're the sort of person who laughs at jokes other people just wrinkle their faces at ... if you're the sort of person who gets scared out of your wits by things other people sleep through (and yes, I did almost nod off at one point) ... if you're the sort of person who's stomach is easily turned by the mention of something mildly gross ... if you find waiting in line at the grocery store a tense and riveting experience ... In other words, if you're easily stimulated (and there's nothing wrong with that) ... then you might get a huge rush out of this movie. But for me ... this wasn't just fast food when I had a taste for something better ... it was cold, stale fast food served up by people who were just going through the motions.

'Cabin Fever' isn't a BAD movie ... it's just soooo much less than it could have been.

Summary: Awful
Review: This movie is possibly the worst movie I have ever seen (and I have seen many, MANY movies). Why the one star? Well, since Amazon won't let you rate something NO STARS, I had to go with one. That one star goest to Cerina Vincent who, thankfully, never fails to take her clothes off whenever possible.

Summary: It is NOT THAT GOOD.
Review: ...Basically this film has a pretty good concept but is part of a genre of "quirky and self-aware" movies that don't benefit from either quality. Right from the beginning I can see it's a bit tongue-in-cheek with the partying teenagers that are such a cliche. But even that seems to detract from the movie, with the stereotypical protagonist nice guy, who is inexplicably friends with the John Belushi character, the arrogant pretty-boy and the featureless females. They're all obnoxious to a fault... scream and jeepers creepers did it much better. But no matter- they're all just there to get slaughtered. From there the movie has fun introducing various semi-interesting characters but then doesn't seem to know what to do with them. It fails to create a tense mood, as the danger facing them never seems palpable. The lame characters return to normal after the first slew of startling grossouts, and eventually resort to scowling, bickering and swearing that plays out as highly flaccid. There's a much-needed sense of clausterphobia that's absent. Meanwhile the terror facing them loses conceptual steam and starts tangenting off every which way. When the local rednecks turn murderous it's totally unconvincing and unscary. They throw away a few potentially interesting subplots, including a pact that they drink no fluid but beer all weekend (in a movie about disease it's easy to predict this figuring in later) and the end is especially weak and unsatisfying. though there are a few compelling moments this is all too similar to the straight-to-video flicks that it attempts to homage. (all those movies are hipper than themselves anyway! This is a parody of a parody, yaaawn.) One of the trailers before the film reminded me what a truly scary movie is... the first Alien.

Summary: Poorly made with little suspense
Review: Five recent college graduates decide to visit a cabin in the woods for little R & R. What they get turns out to be a little more stressful then they had hoped for. When a mountain man stumbles out of the woods with a horrible skin disease, our five paranoid heroes chase him away with baseball bats, knives, and guns. Unfortunately for them, he dies shortly afterward, face first in the resevoir that provides their drinking water. Later, then one of the young people drinks the water, she acquires the disease as well. Soon the paranoia is in full gear as the four remaining people do everything they can to avoid getting the disease.

This isn't a bad move by any means. It had it's fair share of suspense, although it did drag at times. It also had a satisfying conclusion, unlike other horror movies that think it's cool to end without an ending. My main problem with this movie is the characters. For the most part, they were flat and underdeveloped. None of them were very likable, and some of them seemed unnecessary. A character was introduced early in the film only to be discovered as a victim of the virus later. He really served no purpose. Another meaningless character was the partying cop, Winston. He was truly an unrealistic charicature. Add to that the fact that the main characters had very few likable qualities and you have a movie that we really shouldn't care about. It was just an excuse for gore with very little purpose. I can't recommend this film.

Summary: Cabin Fever?
Review: I know I will get raked over the coals for my "opinion" but I have to say this about Cabin Fever...it wasn't that great. It had very good points, but the plot falls way short of what it could've been. It would've been nice to get some hints as to what caused the fever in the first place, and the attempts of the director to make the "Hilly Billy" characters colorful-just comes off ludicrious and unbelieveable! And trust me, I live in Ohio, and I have seen some back-woodsy types, and never in my life have I seen a little boy run off a porch, doing karate moves and yelling, "PANCAKES, PANCAKES, PANCAKES!" then biting someone's finger nearly off!
It was more funny in places then scary-and I love scary movies! I loved "House of a 1000 Corpses"! But this movie just falls flat. This is just my opinion of course... The younger women in the theater sceamed and jumped, and not to mention talked non-stop, but seemed to like it. Maybe it is an age thing...anyway, see the movie if you want to----at your own risk...

Summary: Don't sit next to Dennis
Review: Thank God! Finally a director that understands horror and knows how to deliver. This is a great movie because it is based in reality whch is always more scarier than make-believe. Everyone here does a fantastic job and there are several jump out of your seats moments. I love all the homages to classic horror films especially "evil dead". This movie OWNS 28 days later because it doesn't bog down in a stupid war protest half way thru. Well until next time: PANCAKES,PANCAKES,PANCAKES! See the flick to get the joke.

Summary: THE Best Film of 2003!
Review: I had no idea this film was going to be as amazing as it was. I was expecting a straight horror type film, and it sure delivered for the first hour or so...but then things just went BIZARRE! God, I loved this movie! I have never laughed so hard in my life as when that hillbilly kid started screaming "PANCAKES!!!" What the..?!?!? And then he flies through the air like he is Jackie Chan or something, where does a retarded hillbilly learn thaose moves?? I swear I laughed for over 5 minutes straight! Then ending was just simply ENTHRALLING, I can think of no other words to describe it. I was so sure the racist shop owner was grabbing that rifle to shoot the urban kids...little did I know! Please you must RUN, do not walk, to see this film! I plan on seeing it again tomorrow, it is simply that flabbergasting funny!

Summary: Save your money
Review: Please save your money on this one. They brought in buckets of blood, threw it all over the place and called it a horror movie. The story line was non-existent, bad acting, sex scenes that made NO sense in the story and worst of all it was not even remotely scary. Spend your hard earned money elsewhere!

Summary: Stale
Review: "Cabin Fever" is getting hyped as a cutting-edge gorefest for the next generation - forging new ground in the horror genre. Nothing could be further from the truth. This flick is nothing special. The "story" is threadbare. The main characters are from cookie cutters (although the acting was above-average). The freakish supporting characters are absurdly annoying. The special effects are pretty ordinary. The ending was lifted straight from the granddaddy of all gorefests. And the epilogue was completely idiotic. Don't waste your time or your $$.
