Rating: Summary: Wrong Turn, Right Movie Review: There isn't a lot of good horror movies out there, we all share the same opinion of that, I'm sure. And we all have our own opinions of them. But I for one think that this is a quite decent film, it's just I think that people get a thrill for bashing - whether the target be other people, or, in this case, films. So typically overrated. At least when you shed negativity on to a movie, keep in mind that, it had to be somewhat good in order to even be considered for the big screen. Do you have a movie script that one would think of as theatre-worthy? I don't think so. Same with music artists - they acquired record deals because they could sing, whether their music is to our liking or not. We critics, can't say that we have the same thing going for us. Wrong Turn is suspenseful, fun, and has an attractive cast, whether you liked the film or not. And in horror movies, suspense, fun, and attraction sells. It may not be as good as the classics, but I've seen worse, and I'm sure all of you have as well. Movie-going is for sh*t anyway because bashers like the majority of this society have to ruin it for the rest of us. In conclusion, if you want to bash crap, bash something worth bashing, like... Cabin Fever. :) That is all.
Rating: Summary: THIS IS A GREAT THROWBACK TO 1970'S HORROR Review: This film reminded me of the horror films back in the 1970s. They weren't silly. It is unfortunate what happens to the people as they are victimized, but the film doesn't apologize for being in the horror genre. It is intense and good. mike
Rating: Summary: ok, but stick to the classics Review: alright, so wrong turn had a few gory moments but not enough. If you want to see a real horror movie stick to classics. Like George romero's Dead Trilogy, or Evil Dead. The only new good horror movie ive seen this year would be cabin fever. That stays true to 1980's horror fimls. And I also hated how this horror movie called itself a 80's horror movie. They didnt go into any detail about that, they only did it so 80's horror fans would be more intrested. 80's scary movie have, blood and guts, and the occasional naked girl. Stick to the classics.
Rating: Summary: Don't Make a Wrong Purchase.... Review: Ever see the movie "Deliverence?" Good. If you have you don't need to see this one. If not, maybe you might choose to just to get a sick view of nasty inbred mountain men victimizing a group of stranded motorists. Take the nasties of Deliverence, add some axes, bows and arrows, and cannabilism and you have "Wrong Turn."
Rating: Summary: A horror movie? Review: Inbred West Virginians chasing after people who made a "Wrong Turn"...very unoriginal. This movie really did not make any sense to me. I do give it credits for the interesting and some what scary opening credits..but the rest of the movie is just pointless. In the movie Wrong Turn a group of people get lost in the woods and end up at a house where they hope to find somebody to make a phone call. They end up finding gruesome body parts all over the house..yet one of the characters still is more interested in finding a bathroom. The characters are not surprised by the grotesque body parts instead just keeping looking around the house. Finally a car pulls in with the "monsters" in it and they procede to escape through the back door. They then go into the woods where they are picked off one by one by the group of the 3 monsters (they look more like the Orcs in The Lord of the Rings. Finally in the middle of nowhere they find a watch tower..( surprising it is there when a road can't be seen for miles and miles). They contact the police who obviously find them but then even the police officer is killed. Finally the remaining characters burn down the "monsters house" and kill them. Finally the end credits come up.. thank god..but no they have to add a little piece to the end where a police officer who is rummaging through the remains of the burned down house is killed by a monster. To see what the director could possibly say about his boring movie i turned on the director commentary and surfed through some extra boring scenes. At one dialouge scene the director said something like 'we didnt focus on the dialouge or screen play very much we had a low budget and just went for some thrills'..wow that wasn't very obvious..
Rating: Summary: Ordinary, slow-moving. Unworthy of Eliza Dushku's talents. Review: Wrong Turn gets a semi-favorable assessment in my view because director Rob Schmidt isn't quite as desperate to show off camera trickery as most of his modern-horror peers, like William Malone. That doesn't make Wrong Turn a good horror movie. As a chase/adventure movie it fares okay, but you won't feel any of the gut-wrenching sense of doom that you'll get from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre or Night of the Living Dead. For one thing, the characters talk too much, as if constantly afraid that we won't know what they're trying to do. Their exploration of the cannibals' house is obviously ripped off from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, but it contains none of the freakish horror of that horror classic because of the characters' running commentary. They are also not an interesting bunch to watch because of their complete lack of back story. Not even the enormous charisma of Eliza Dushku can rescue this one, because aside from the fact that she's on the rebound, we know nothing about her character Jessie other than that she's capable of feeling fear and can fight back if she needs to. Hardly the stuff of complex, engaging characterization. The other characters fare no better. Lead Desmond Harrington is colourless and uninteresting, and Emmanuelle Chriqui as Carly is especially irritating, just begging to be killed off but unfortunately keeps on surviving. The worst part about the film, though, is the makeup. The cannibals in this film look more goofy than horrifying. One glimpse at Texas Chainsaw Massacre's Leatherface and there's no comparison. Makeup whiz Stan Winston scored poorly this time, and he isn't helped by Schmidt's crafting of these characters into grunting, giggling, monkey-like boys who just don't command respect. They can kill three dozen more people in this film and we still wouldn't be that scared, not in the same way as we're scared by The Shape, Leatherface, or Damien. A semi-adequate horror film, free of the ridiculous bells and whistles of its contemporaries, but still missing the mark.
Rating: Summary: Scary!!! Review: This movie seems to be a formula flick. On the surface, it is. But, there are elements that stray from the expected. There were real thrills and chills. I jumped several times from surprise. Most of the violence is off screen or at a distance. Some scenes are gory but not so many that you can't watch. I highly recommend this unexpectedly scary movie.
Rating: Summary: Bad Movie Review: If you want to buy this movie,..don't. It wasn't even scary. The "murderers" or the killers looked like nomes from the lord of the rings.. it was a horrible movie.
Rating: Summary: Surprisingly good... Review: Yes, it's a teen horror movie, yes, it's got Eliza Dushku, and yes, it's one of those films where you can spot the living from the about-to-be-dead from a mile off, but for all of these potentially catastrophic points, 'Wrong Turn' surprises us by being one of the better horror offerings of the last few years. Briefly, the plot - There's misdeeds afoot in them thar' hills. Chris Flynn (Desmond Harrington) is forced to re-route himself through a series of rural dirt roads when a traffic pile-up makes him late for a job interview. He totals his car against the van of friends Jessie (Dushku, looking expressionless and slightly bored - WHAT an unusual character for her! Must have been quite a stretch :-), Carly, Scott, Evan and Francine, and as they decide to look for help, the body count begins to slowly rise. Ordinary stuff, on paper, but the surprising thing about 'Wrong turn' is the frequency and quality of the scares and shocks it provides for the audience. Director Rob Schmidt very wisely keeps the three gene-freak murderers out of full focus, adding a very real sense of fear to what are essentially three Quasimodo-clones. The scene where the four heroes are trapped in their shack is proof of this, as is the freehand and manic quality of the camerawork in the car graveyard scene. Grisly to a fault, but never so much as to become obvious or annoying, the special effects are wisely kept to a minimum but the ones that are there are truly top-notch, and, in a movie based on the strictly non-supernatural, that's very wise. Think 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' meets 'Deliverance' and you'll have a good idea of what I mean. The acting is pedestrian - fine, but nothing extraordinary - but the actual scares and tension as well as the schlock shocks set 'Wrong Turn' apart from its more woeful contemporaries. Kudos to director Schmidt for supplying a genuinely scary Scary Movie. Recommended for rental.
