Summary: "Must I Remind You of a Little Movie Called Deliverance?"
Review: That line says it all. "Wrong Turn" is a fairly entertaining stab at the Rural Redneck Slasher genere and proves to be a loose update of the classic psychological thriller about a group of friends whose foray into the deep dark woods of the rural backcountry of Georgia on a canoe trip leads them on a Hellish journey into barbarism and death. "Wrong Turn" is not nearly so powerful and engaging as that film, but provides a good helping of blood and guts. This time we get killer inbred mutant killers who stalk, kill, and multilate lost or stranded motorists in the Greenbriar Backcountry of West Virginia. A group of attractive and impossibly cool twentysomethings (featuring the fabulous Eliza Dushku) get stranded on a backcountry mountain road after a car crash and must walk to find help through the dark foreboding woods. The group comes upon a ramshackle cabin and discover within evidence of grizly murders and cannibalism. The group is quickly discovered by the inhabitants of said Cabin of Death and the chase is soon on. One by one, our luckless protagonists are dispatched by the mutant Mountain Men as the survivors struggle to escape their horrid fate as frozen leftovers. Such is the basic premise of the film that wonderfully exploits the power of what one horror writer has termed "urbanoia", the city dwellers' fear of strange and hostile rural settings. "Wrong Turn" is no great movie, but it does provide a good escape for a few hours. I would also highly recommend checking out some of the other films in the Rurual Slasher vein like "The Hills Have Eyes" and of course "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre".

Summary: A cool movie
Review: Considering its genre this movie was actually quite good and I liked it. Eliza Dushku's performance was great as always.
For people who missed out what this movie is about - well a group of teenagers are stuck in some distant bushes and are haunted by some scary looking cannibals. Is it worth to watch or buy this movie?
Well, only if you like Horror movies or if you're Eliza Dushku's fan - otherwise you better chose something else

Summary: A Scary Movie!
Review: A group of young people have a flat and then a wreck in the
wilds of West Virginia.Their cell phones don't work and they have to seek help.Two of them are killed at the scene of the wreck by the forces of evil.The remaining foursome discover a cabin in the woods.Here they discover evidence of cannibalism.
They are soon pursued by a threesome of inbred cannibals.The
threesome are made double ugly thanks to great makeup work.They are also a bloodthirsty lot.The young people are having to flee for their lives with this wild bunch in pursuit.There is action
nonstop.The scenery is also nice.This is offset by the grossness of the mountain men.This is not a movie for anyone who is the
least bit squeamish.All in all an interesting film. The ending is shocking as well.This movie will make you think twice about going on camping or fishing trips in the wilderness.

Summary: Predictable but entertaining
Review: I rented Wrong Turn knowing it would not be a classic five star movie. I figured it would be a typical horror/thriller with some good scares and lots of gore. I was right, but I was also impressed. Wrong Turn is an above average horror flick with a pretty good story line and fair acting. One has to think that the filmmakers had seen the episode of the X-Files called "Home." Both the movie and the show dealt with a genetically deformed family. During the opening credits, newspaper clippings are flashed across the screen; the clippings dealing with inbreeding, genetic mutations, and killings. Wrong Turn has plenty of scares, some better timed than others, and gore galore. The gore, however, is not over the top. Some of the most disturbing scenes are where the viewer merely hears a victim being killed or chopped up. The acting is fine. Jeremy Sisto of Six Feet Under fame is great. He has a natural ability to make himself believable as he acts. The rest of the cast holds their own. I suppose my only gripe is the predictability of the film. Before the killings even begin, I guessed who would survive. I was right. Don't worry, I'm giving anything away by hinting that some of the characters die. You know that's going to happen. I liked Wrong Turn a lot. It was a quick, entertaining ride. Just put your brain on cruise control, sit back, and enjoy.

Summary: Mixed Emotions
Review: This was a little better than average. Unfortunately, it wasn't that much better. I thought the cast was good, with a couple of exceptions. I like Jeremy Sisto in "Six Feet Under", but in this movie, his neurotic rantings didn't ring true. He seemed more like a character than a real person, if you know what I mean. I wanted to like him more, but it's not a good sign when you're watching a movie and you keep hoping a particular actor's performance will improve. Desmond Harrington is unbearably beautiful (and it's cool to see him as the good guy, since he played the bad guy in one of my favorite movies). But he too is not the most talented of actors. He seems very one-dimensional: the serious guy that knows how to be serious. Seriously. Eliza, on the other hand, shines so bright there are times when you have to shield your eyes. In certain roles (like this and Faith from "Buffy"), she is extraordinary. If you're looking for a good scary movie, I would recommend this. It's well done, Eliza is wonderful, and it delivers pretty much exactly what it promises. If you're looking for more, pass this one by. The villains are not as terrifying as they should be (and the makeup effects are surprisingly uninspired), and the movie takes itself far more serious than it deserves. Also, there is one scene that was stolen almost entirely from an X-Files episode (think Mayberry and Johnny Matthis). But if you're not in a judgemental mood, this movie is more than perfect for a good Friday night scare. It's definitely a "popcorn" horror movie. And who knows - everyone sees movies in different ways, so this might be exactly what you're looking for (and it wouldn't surprise me). But if you end up being disappointed, don't say I didn't warn you. :-)

Summary: One of the best horror films in recent memory!
Review: Excellent teens-stalked-by-inbred-cannibals movie! Good acting, likeable characters and some cool makeup f/x by Stan Winston. Blows away the overrated Cabin Fever by a longshot. This one really surprised me (and I hate most of the modern horror films I see).

Summary: Not so bad
Review: I watched this movie without high expectations, but it wasnt nearly as bad as some people have said.
It is about a group of travellers who get stranded in the middle of the woods, after their vehicle is immobilised by a group of Mountain men freaks. After this, it is a struggle for survival, as the Mountain Men pick their victims one by one.
The makers of this film leave little to the imagination, as this sort of story has been done before. Having said that, it is still a lot of fun. If you are after a slasher flick, with lots of blood and guts, and very little story line, then this movie is for you. There are a lot of bad horror movies out there these days, but this is one of the better ones. 3 stars is what i think this movie deserves.

Summary: "And Deliver Us From Sequels..."
Review: Wrong Turn is a welcome, irony free, return to the seventies slasher genre. As the director himself admits, it never strays too far from being a deliverance meets Texas chainsaw massacre collision, with a little more of the "Blair Witch Project" thrown in than he'd like to acknowledge. The scary bits were pretty darn scary, the characters a little more developed than usual and the inbred hicks lived up to their reputation - perhaps the Appalachian Development Committee should come out and denounce the movie for pandering to simple stereotyping? Who says that all inbred weirdos have to be homicidal cannibals? Can't we have some positive portrayals people!?
A nice touch is that the killings are totally gratuitous and lovingly drawn out. Why merely kill someone when you can drag them off an mutilate and torture them later. Perhaps even save some bits in the fridge for a snack? Fantastic.
The best part of this DVD though is the commentary with the director and the two main stars. The director takes it seriously, explaining how the scenes were set up and giving everyone props for their acting and professionalism. The two stars treat it as a contractual obligation! They make fun of the movie, themselves, each other, the acting, the effects, the CGI, everything! My favorite part has to be at the ~56 minute mark where Desmond Harrington audibly lights up a cigarette, inhales and says "Man, I never realized this movie was so long!".
That leads to the main problem with the movie in my opinion - it's way too short! At 76 minutes you can't help feeling a little cheated. The backstory is skipped over to hasten the arrival of the gore (you know a movie means business when two people get killed during the teaser) and the plot unfolds so quickly it's hard to really get a feel for the horror and tension the characters must be under. That said the characters are slightly more believable than normal - the idea of one guy joining a group of friends is particularly fresh, and at least the horrendous hook-up scene is confined to the deleted section of the DVD. No-one wants to see gratuitous tonsil-hockey in the middle of a blood bath!
Watch it and be scared then watch the special features and laugh at yourself for being scared...

Summary: Horror movies used to be scary
Review: "Wrong Turn" stars Eliza Dushku (Faith in Buffy) and Jeremy Sisto (Jesus in the mini-series) and is a horror film aimed at the teen audience. Now sometimes these movies can be very well done, Scream, despite it's unfortuanate smattering of profanity, was a clever and scary film. Wrong Turn is neither clever nor scary. It's utterly predictable and poorly written, the special effects by Stan Winston are good, but it lacks the tension, check out Stan Winston's "Punpkinghead", for a real horror. The charecters stumble across a seemingly deserted house out in the woods and are soon put in danger by some inbred canniballs. As the charecters are shallow and uninteresting, I really had trouble sympathizing or even caring about them as one by one they were dispatched by the hicks. One of the girls is so irritating that I was happy when she was taken care of, I couldn't handle her screeching anymore! The orginal Texas Chainsaw Massacre did it so much better. I have not seen the update. Save your money and rent Texas Chainsaw instead, or do yourself a real favour and get out Hitchcocks "Psycho", "Rear Window", "Vertigo", or "The Birds", and watch a real thriller for a change instead of the rubbish Hollywood is aiming at the teen market. I know you teens are not as stupid as Hollywood thinks you are! Thanks for reading.
