Rating: Summary: this movie made no wrong turns Review: The best horror movie I have seen in a long time and very easly the best horror movie of 2003 . must go see
Rating: Summary: Wrong Turn heading the right way! Review: I just saw "Wrong Turn" 2 days back and I must say that it was a much better movie than I thought it would be. Although the storyline does remind me some what of "The Blair Witch Project" and "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", the story is very much different, though it still follows the normal rules for a good slasher horror flick. The story revolves around a guy, who is trying to get past the traffic on the highway, therefore takes another "route" which he finds at a local gas station. While driving, his car crashes into another one, and finds himself stuck in the woods with 5 more people, unaware of the dangers that await them there. The movie, however, had it's moments where you jumped up your seat in surprise, and moves at a good pace throughout. The acting by the whole cast, especially Eliza Dushku and Desmond Harrington is really well done. Being a huge Buffy the vampire slayer fan, I have seen Eliza beat up vampires and demons a lot in that show, and found that she could act equally well in a damsel-in-distress role too. Also, the make up done for the inbred mountain men is done really well and the viewers are bound to get scared once they see them. On the whole, I wouldn't say that this is the best horror movie ever made, and I wouldn't say that it is totally unpredictable, but still, if you just want to have fun and get scared for 1 hr 20 minutes, then "Wrong Turn" is the right way to turn to :)
Rating: Summary: aaahhhh!!!! ew!!! Review: Kids in the woods being attacked by nasty deformed mountain men, makes for a great after-dark film. The feeling of sickness rising throughout this movie is apparent. I liked this film, although it is not the greatest horror flick put together. If you wanna have a good time scare, this is your movie, but if you are critical of movies, you might want to take a different TURN when going to the video store. But if you do check out this film you will think differently next time you go into the woods!!!!
Rating: Summary: Wrong Turn Review: Stranded and lost alone in the mountains of West Virginia, six teenagers of the anoying kind long since thought dead after 'Scream' find out what Southern hospitality means whilst running from three in-bred hillbillies hell-bent on making human jambolaya. Completely irony-free, this is a cross between a Friday the Umpteenth slasher flick and The Hills Have Eyes - taking neither the humour from the first or subtlety from the latter. The film gives only a brief mention of 'Deliverence' and completely ignores 'Southern Comfort' when a more accomplished director would have paid better homage and at least given a subtle nod to the movies from which it is born. As the 'jumps' are broadcast with the subtlety of a hammer, this movie does as least become unintentionally funny as they run around the dense West Virginia forest generally screaming a la Shaggy and Scooby. At least the scenery is nice.
Rating: Summary: The most hilarious movie I've ever seen! Review: This movie starts out as a reasonably decent horror flick. Talentedish actors, scaryish locations, and so forth. A group of teens are thrwon out in the woods, and are soon being chased by something. That something? Retarded Hillbillies! Two of which are quite large and dangerous, and a third who is the sole reason for the 5-star rating. You see, there is something hilarious about a severely deformed puny little hyperactive redneck guy enthusiastically climbing trees, chasing trucks, and just generally stumbling around happily, all the while making high pitched gibberish blubberring sounds. A horror flop, but a comedic masterpiece.
Rating: Summary: A True Horror Movie Review: Wrong Turn is a movie that delivers on all parts. You never get bored in it, in fact, you keep wanting it to continue. It is a perfect example of a what a Horror movie should be. The cast including Eliza Dushku, Desmond Harrington, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Jeremy Sisto, and Lindy Booth Give excellent first rate performances. I cant love this film more. It is one hell of an exciting ride that you dont wanna miss. Critics may dislike it but but for Horror fans, it is an Oscar winning movie. This one is a keeper.
Rating: Summary: Not as bad as you might think Review: Hashed together from The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and an old episode of The X-Files, Wrong Turn is pretty much without plot. The premise has a group of 6 teenagers finding themselves lost in the country and stalked by three murdering inbreeds. So without a plot what you need are a few scares, which Wrong Turn does deliver more than most. It doesn't stint on the blood and gore and whilst plenty of clichés are used in the camerawork as the camera ogles its cast from behind the bushes. The movie also starts off well by not introducing the murderers straight away and if there's one thing any horror fan knows it's that the unseen is much scarier than the obvious. A teaser sequence involving a rock-climbing couple is particularly original and appreciated, plus the scenes where the group of kids unintentionally stumble into the house of their stalkers, finding a gruesome collection of trophies including dolls, tiaras and body parts; it's not often that you get to say this about a movie but whoever is responsible for the sets really did a good job. Unfortunately Wrong Turn goes downhill almost as soon as it unmasks the inbreeds. They aren't half as scary as those in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, primarily due to the fact that they just don't look real but more like monsters. A lot has been made of Stan Winston working on the film but in this case it was a mistake. It would have been much creepier if the killers had resembled humans rather than immortal creatures that communicate with series of grunts rather than in English. The cast are, however, quite good. All unknowns apart from Eliza Dushku (Faith from Buffy The Vampire Slayer) it makes it slightly harder to second-guess the exact order of when the characters will be picked off. Unfortunately Dushku is given little to work with, basically playing a watered-down version of her character on Buffy. No sense of remorse or burden of being the Slayer, she is a straightforward fast-thinking action heroine. The only time she's allowed to come alive is in the film's last half hour or so where she gets to play scared, and she does it exceptionally well. It's just a shame there wasn't a bit more. In particular, one couple's engagement seems wholly unnecessary. But then again characterisation is something that you shouldn't always expect from a horror movie. The last ten years seems to have been the decade for the horror movie, petering out after the ironic slasher movie became boring with all the Scream rip-offs filtering the market and then resurfacing again as intelligent fare in The Others and The Sixth Sense (though neither strictly horror) and finding new life by having the horror played straight in the particularly impressive Jeepers Creepers. The fact that Wrong Turn does play it straight is the best thing it has going for it seen as it isn't really very original, and the directing makes it seem a lot better than it actually is. Given a better script (the treetop confrontation is just plain ridiculous) Wrong Turn may have been a real summer treat but as it is it's just better than most. It will make you jump in a few places but if you're expecting a Jeepers Creepers for 2003 then you'll be sorely disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Word of Mouth got me to this movie - it was great! Review: I hadn't planned to see this movie. I had seen no promotions for this movie at all so I figured it was a bad movie so I would just bot even give it the time of day. Until....my 57 year old Mother - who is kind of a prude to movies called me right after seeing it and went on and on and on about the movie - SHE LOVED IT!!! So I decided what the heck. She said there were a mere 6 other people in the theater when they saw it on opening night so I not liking crowded theaters though GREAT - well I went to see it two days later and WOW - word of mouth must have gotten out - the theater was packed. I truely enjoyed this film, not a single dull moment, my heart raced quite a few times and creeped out others. My Husband says we are getting this one on DVD the day its released. It's kind of a "Deliverance for the new Millenium" and driving through West Virginia for our summer vacation in Virginia will NEVER be the same :)
Rating: Summary: An Instant Classic Review: First of all, this movie is a spine-tingling horror!!! It keeps you on the edge of your seat through the whole movie! I dont know why there wasnt alot of theatherical trailers on T.V. about it. In addition, there should of been more trailers! The trailers on T.V. got people thinking that this is just like any other movie. With young kids going out on a vacation, partying, drinking, and sex. But, its not like that. Its like a movie where kids want to do that, but they cant because there to busy running for their lives instead. Dont get me wrong though. Im saying that its different from other young adult horror movies. Its like 2001's "Joy Ride" and 2001's "Jeepers Creepers" meets 1970's "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" and 1998's "The Hunted". Also, it seems so real! Because it takes place in the West Virginia Woods, where there are crazy people. Im NOT saying that all the people in West Virgina are crazy. Or either, am I saying that people who live or hike, in the West Virginia woods are crazy. All Im saying is that there are some crazy people out there who live in the wild. In addition, in the movie the killers are cannibals. And in this world there are cannibals! Also, its cool because these cannibals are in the woods. And if you live in the woods, then you need to survive, and if you want to survive then you have to eat! This movie is a realistic-classic horror that will keep you guessing what will happen next from the beginning to the end! Its a MUST SEE!!!
Rating: Summary: Great Horror Movie! Review: I did not know much about this movie before going to the movies and seeing it, because it was not heavily advertised. But when I went to see it I thought it was a very good horror film. I have always been a big fan of the Friday the 13th's, Halloween's, etc. I have been very disappointed with the recent Jason X among other horror films for getting too sci-fi and not good old school horror. Wrong Turn has the good old school horror type feel to it. Eliza Dushku is such a hottie and does a great job in this film. If you like Texas Chainsaw Massacre then you will like this film.
