Summary: Great movie. Great sound.
Review: This movie is very original and captivating, it keeps glued to the screen and keep you curious to know how the plot develops. Did I mentioned that it is also very scarry?. I have the vhs version and the video quality is decent but the sound is very good for a movie this old, with great surround effects, high dynamics and very deep bass. Overall: EXCELLENT.

Summary: Just had dinner with Bill Thornbury
Review: I knew Bill was in the movie but didn't know to what extent. After looking at his DVD of Phantasm and seeing his name on the credit list I then realized he was one the the main characters. After a night of jamming on our instruments with some friends I rented it tonight and had lots of fun watching Bill in this movie.

Summary: The Music Makes This DVD even better and scarier!
Review: If you want to see Phantasm, I highly suggest that you rent it or buy it for DVD instead of VHS. The DVD, has so many extra features, including lobby cards, behind the scenes, commentary, the Phantasm theme song, which is the disco version. I listen to it so many times because it is so good. There are many more features as well. Well, the movie is good itself. A boy, Mike, is living with his brother. He goes into a graveyard one day and is just hanging around riding his bike, and stuff like that. He than sees a man, a very tall one, lifting a casket into the truck which is extremely heavy. The boy wonders how this man can be so strong. He also wonders why the man is taking the casket AWAY from the graveyard. This puzzles the boy. That is only the beginning of his horror. Stuff happens such as monsters in his room, ghouls, and dont forget the flying balls! I don't want to give to much away but this movie is definetly 5 stars. *****

Summary: Hilarious!!!!
Review: This film has a bunch of Jawa rip-offs running around and killing people! That is reason enough to see it! It's weird, these Jawa rips made me laugh and scared me at the same time. A great psychological horror film, but sometimes in this movie, the main characters make the stupidest mistakes. Like the boy going out in the dark to the house were "the pahntasm" lives and breaks in, for no apparent reason. Short cuts in the plot are a draw back as well. This film isn't for everybody, unless you like thinking movies. It's kind of a cross between Salem's Lot and Jacob's Ladder. See it! It's 50% Laughs and 50% Scares! Amazing!

Summary: The most inventive and notable horror film of its time.
Review: This is a gem from 1979, an absolute joyful expression of one filmmaker's vision. Don Coscarelli wrote, produced, directed and edited this bizarre tale which combines alien worlds, aliens, body snatching, fortune telling, Jawas, car chases and buddy-movie antics all into one. There are bizarre moving postcards, flying silver spheres that drain your blood, a threatening tall man (Angus Scrimm), femme fatales, a Tubular Bells-inspired score, and more. Michael Baldwin and Bill Thornbury are perfect as the brothers (Mike and Jody) who investigate the macabre events at Morningside Mortuary (the same house was the setting for Burnt Offerings) and a find a sinister "Tall Man" who seems to be crushing dead humans and using them for slaves on an alien world. Phantasm's plot is a mish-mosh of various standard horror film trappings, but is so engaging, thanks to the winning leads, that you don't care. And the surprises are many. This is a cult favorite and one of the most inventive and notable horror films of its time. Ignore the sequels.

Summary: One Of The Most Influential Horror Films Of All Time
Review: When you watch this movie, you'll immediately see how many other movies were influenced by it. Phantasm is a very mysterious nightmarish horror movie where a haunted cemetery is the source of a lot of strange happenings. What's most recognizable about this movie is the 70's supernatural style along with the very distinct music.... and of course, The Tall Man. Sure, the acting is really bad and some of the effects are cheesy, but the atmosphere is very good and you'll easily forget how low the budget was on this film. I still prefer the original, I saw all the sequels and thought they didn't even compare. Is it a nightmare? Is it real? You'll ask yourself these questions when you watch Phantasm.

The DVD is pretty nice considering this is a cult movie. The video isn't anamorphic which is the biggest drawback, but it looks really good for being shot with such a low budget. The sound is mostly front-oriented, but still sounds very enveloping. The extras are plentiful too.... this disc is definitely worth it if you're a fan of this film.

Summary: Really slow in many parts..decent horror though
Review: This film was just too short and not enough really happened especially in the beginning 35 min. of the film. Just when things started to get good it ended. Also the ending of the film was really hurried and it destroyed whatever was going for this film. I'm not saying this was a bad film but its just not enough to be a great film. For a 70's film its not too bad. The acting for some of the characters were really subpar but maybe I'm just used to modern films.

Now for the strengths of the film. The best parts were of course the action and duels with the Tall man and his dwarfed minions (literally). The small plot that they kind of uncovered was a really unique approach to making this film exciting. However, again there was not enough of this to make it a great film. Secondly, the coolest character has to be the Tall man. The guy is darn near invincible and he remains a total mystery even in the end. He also has to be the best actor of them all in this film and without him the film would have not worked.

The coolest scene has to be the little silver ball drilling the guy in the forehead.

Overall, this was a decent film and I am ready to watch the sequels.
