Summary: WHAT A WASTE!!! LAST TURKEY ON THE LEFT
Review: Let's hope this is truly the last house on the left, and that there aren't any others! I cannot even sit still long enough to get through this tripe. Bad acting, horrible music, and that's just in the first half hour! The extras are downright disgusting, like we really need to see someone have their bowels fondled by some crazy sexually confused psycho-chick. UGH! Thought that scene would never end. PLEASE spend your hard earned cash on something a little more worthy than this trash. Any of the NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET flix come to mind...If I could, I wouldn't even give this one star...

Summary: If you want a good laugh...
Review: Rent or purchase the DVD version of this piece of ... and watch the film makers speak "seriously" about their "creation." If you think the film is a cheesy, ... attempt to cash in on a teenage audience in need of ... shocks, you'll really get a kick out of Wes Craven waxing serious, and describing his "academic" considerations. What a self-inflated .... The film makers routinely describe this mess as "disturbing." The really disturbing aspect of Last House On The Left is that it launched a successful, commercial career.

Summary: Powerful But Flawed
Review: This film has been so controversial and caught up in legend and rumour that I never knew what to really expect when I actually got the chance to see it for myself. I've read many reviews and read various analysis and theories but I've wanted to see it for myself to make up my own mind about it.

It's a confusing film in some ways because the assaults and then the murders of the two girls is a horrible thing to witness but they are intercut with scenes featuring almost "comedic" scenes of two rather pathetic and inept policemen and two parents, preparing a birthday party, that are so "sweet" and "lovely" you can hardly bear to watch. You're wincing one second and then smirking the next so it's confusing dealing with the jarring images and it does ruin the tension and flow of the film a little.

The murder of Phyllis is truly vile and the performance that Lucy Grantham gives is superb. Actually the perfomances from all the leads are excellent but it's Lucy Grantham that really stands out for me. Sandra Cassel's performance is quite something because she really looks traumatised through out and is quite believeable.

It's not a nice film infact it's rather nasty and it's not a film you would want to watch over and over but it's worth seeing to make up your own mind and it's worth seeing to see Wes Craven's beginnings.

The extras on this disc are excellent. The commentary by Wes Craven and Sean Cunningham is insightful and interesting as is the featurette - including input from cast members. The "Outtakes" are brief but good. What's really interesting is the trailer because if I had seen that advertising the film at the cinema I would never have seen the film because it makes it look like it's going to be rubbish!

The film shows signs of it's age - sometimes it's too dark and the sound is poor - but that's not a bad thing because that gives it a documentary feel and makes it even more disturbing.

Summary: This is SO dumb!
Review: This isn't horror, this is ....! Wes Craven's film debut is a primitive little production that rises above its cut-rate production values and hazy, grainy patina via its grimly affecting portrait of human evil infiltrating a middle-class household. This film failed miserably to accomplish what it wanted to do. This isn't scary, disturbing, or disguisting (except the "biting" scene). Don't waste your time or money on this piece of crud!!!

Summary: A great film
Review: First of all I love Wes Craven. Scream, Nightmare on Elm Street and The Hills Have Eyes are some of my favorites. But the first time I saw Last House on the Left I was amazed and then later realized that it was his first big film. I recommend this film so much that its on the same level as Tobe Hooper's Texas Chainsaw Massacre in my book; and hopefully after watching this you will realize how disturbing this story really is.

Summary: [stinks]
Review: This was the most boring movie I've ever purchased. It is slow and the criminals are both uninteresting and stupid. The movie seems to go on forever before anything, relating to the plot, even happens. Ther are some pretty gross effects in the movie, if you're into sausage filled [junk]. I can't honestly tel you how the movie ended because I turned it off and went to do some chores around the house instead. Believe me if I would rather work around the house then watch this movie then it [stinks].

Summary: Good Story, Terrible Acting!!!
Review: Wes Craven's film debut, The Last House on the Left, is a disturbing movie to say the least and was a movie that crossed the line. The movie can be considered scary because the type of crime committed in the film is a realistic possibility anywhere. The Last House on the Left is disturbing and shocking. Four convicts escape from prison and hide out in an apartment building. When 2 young girls Mari Collingwood(Sandra Cassel) and Phyllis Stone(Lucy Grantham) go searching for marijuana in the wrong place they run into the convicts and are tortured, raped and left for dead. It preceeded "I Spit on Your Grave"(1978) which seems to have stolen many of the same ideas from Last House but added much more nudity and excessive brutality.

My problem with this movie however is the acting with one exception. If you do view this film you will see what I mean. Marshall Anker and Martin Kove(The sheriff and the deputy) give the most [horrible] performances I've ever seen unless these cops are supposed to be ... clowns. Gaylord St. James plays Dr. William Collingwood, besdies seeming disconcerned about his daughter's disappearence it takes him about 5 minutes to kill the lead convict Krug Stillo(David Hess) with a chainsaw. The only notable performance in my opinion was that of David Hess who was excellent as a maniacal, conscienceless, cruel psychopath.

The Last House on the Left is without a doubt a ground breaking film and one you won't soon forget. It will get a reaction from you whether it be positive or negative which I believe was Wes Cravens goal in this film. Give it a look and form your own opinion.

Summary: Not enough sexual tension to be worth it.....
Review: I was disappointed with this '70's era explotation film. While it has some grusome scenes of disembowelments etc., it fell far short of the sexual tension necessary to rate 5 stars from me. I only gave it 3 stars (as opposed to 1) because it did have some minor sexual situations that would not be found in films made today. I think if its bloody violent scenes you are looking for, purchase "Ilsa, The She Wolf of the SS". It has lots of bloody torture scenes, but also lacks in the sexual arena as well. All in all, I wish I could get my money back on this film.

Summary: You probably won't forget this one anytime soon
Review: It's not so much the scenes of horrific violence in themselves that make one wince here (after all, presumably one has signed on for a hardcore violent thriller when ponying up to rent or buy this infamous title), but it's the frequent juxtaposition of disturbing violence with slapstick comedy that is the really unsettling thing. It's really strange, for example, to see a violent rape & assault immediately followed by a scene of two cops having to hitch a ride on a chicken truck, and (as if that weren't enough) a few seconds later watch the cops fall off the truck when it stops too fast. Very weird. Also, the curious among you should be aware that this film isn't nearly as polished or professional looking as the slick box art might lead you to believe. In other words, if you have no tolerance or appreciation for on-the-fly, low-budget guerilla film-making, avoid this at all costs. I DO have a certain affection for this type of film-making, and even I said "whoa, what were they thinking??" and "Wow, that's really cheap looking (or sounding)" several times during the course of this. Ultimately, however, I have to say that the movie is worth a look, but it's probably worth a look more because it's an interesting bit of movie history than because it's actually a good movie.
