Summary: Not for everyone, but a genre classic
Review: I must admit that I purchased this DVD based on the film's infamous reputation and place in the history of horror. Having seen it, I am glad to have it in my collection but still have mixed feelings about it--and understand that most of the public would probably hate it. A low-budget film filled with inappropriate music, inappropriate comic interludes, and performances ranging from decent to disgusting: this packs none of the terrifying punch its contemporaries (Texas Chainsaw Massacre) and doesn't quite get as sick as some of its immediate descendants (I Spit On Your Grave). Still, it definitely pushed many boundaries--for its day.

The DVD itself is wonderful, the film restored to its full uncut version, a funny commentary track, deleted scenes, several trailers, and an excellent making-of documentary which finds most of the original cast being interviewed.

Summary: very boring
Review: don't be fooled by the cover and being a horror movie, for all you gore fans their isnt hardly any in this uncut version should still be rated R. the acting is very [bad] and so is the music, this is a crime drama more than a horror movie no scares here

Summary: IF ONLY IT WEREN'T A MOVIE!!!
Review: And if only I hadn't bothered to watch. Dissapointing dreck from Wes Craven. Something about two really idiotic girls who get murdered in the woods by three guys and a lesbian. Supposedly incredibly shocking...supposedly! This is just standard exploitation nonsense with a good ad campaign! It isn't even gory!! WHERE'S THE GORE? Who cares about these girls? Who cares about her parents? The only interesting people in this movie are the criminals. Yes another Wes Craven debacle with a body count. This just left me bored. Try THE PROWLER or MANIAC for some real good horrific gore effects.
This film is highly unrecommended!!

Summary: A documentary on rape & murder.
Review: Last house on the Left is a truly sickening movie, not because of gore or splatter effect, but simply because what it shows & what it is about. If you're looking for a shocking & contraversial movie to add to your collection it's a must, but if you're looking for a movie to enjoy, try one of Wes' later movies instead. This one is too revolting to be enjoyable. The story revolves about a couple of psycho's who for no real reason at all decide to abduct, humiliate, rape & then kill 2 young girls. Made in the very dry style of Texas Chainsaw Massacre it is a movie that leaves a definate bitter taste in your mouth. Admittedly the dick chewing scene is rather well done. Not a movie to recommend for anyone but Craven completists, & people looking to own every contraversial movie made. A true Video ( DVD ) Nasty.

Summary: I should win a prize
Review: I actually saw this movie at the drive-in when it was first released - I was 8 years old. It was so disturbing that I've never forgotten it. A friend recently convinced me to see it again - she said it really wasn't that bad. Liar! It was worse because now I have daughters of my own!

Horrifying stuff. And I'm not easily horrified. "I Spit On Your Grave" was Disney compared to this.

Summary: I don't think so!
Review: I wanted this movie a long while, before actually purchasing it. And I purchased it not knowing anything, except what the cover depicted. When I put it in, I realized it was a little older (30 years), but gave it a chance anyway. At the end of the movie my son (after having kept his ears and eyes covered for a good portion of the movie) asked why it said it was scary on the cover. After taking it out of the DVD player, I actually looked at the disk to make sure this was what I had paid for and had received such rave reviews. I'm afraid the only people that could give this movie more than two stars would be deranged.

Summary: Disturbing... and dumb
Review: Ugh, I had to force myself to the end of this clunker. It's amazing how people can consider grainy, low-budget filmmaking, awful music and bad editing as artistic. Even more amazing was the fact director Wes Craven somehow used this hunk of junk to secure financing (and redeem himself) with the Nightmare on Elm Street series.

So what's the plot? Well, after a mother-daughter rant on the pros and cons of going braless, two teenage girls are raped and murdered. Wow. MIRACULOUSLY, they happened to be murdered right next to the house of one of the girls' parents. MIRACULOUSLY, the parents search out and discover their dead daughter in the woods in the middle of the night. MIRACULOUSLY, they execute some Macgyver-type plan of revenge on the culprits instead of simply killing them outright as they were planning on doing anyway. Heh.

One of the so-called revenge acts involved the mother performing oral sex on one of the killers. Is this for real? And, lest I forget, you the viewer have to be told that the daughter is dead because she's still breathing and moving her head! How can anyone take this movie seriously? Even Wes Craven admitted he was stoned throughout the production and it shows.

Summary: Absolute Must Have.
Review: Nothing comes close to this intense film, except maybe
"Last House on the Edge of the Park", which David Hess
also starred in (without him, the movie would lack
the full impact it has); Hess is also in a new release called "Nutcracker: An American Nightmare"
(he plays another psychotic but one with a wide range, showing the accumalated skills of many years of experience).

Summary: A truly shocking version of an even more shocking film
Review: This is what I have been waiting to see ever since I first saw "Last House" several years ago, the most complete version of the film available. This DVD version is great because it includes several scenes that were cut from the film over the years of it's release. This most controversial film has been chopped to bits by theatre managers, video production companies, and censors. Contained on this DVD are such infamous scenes as the "disembowellment" scene, the "severed arm" scene, and the scene where one of the murderers actually carves his name into the chest of his innocent teenage victim. This version also gives you the story behind the nortorious "Piss your pants" scene and the scene where one of the killers gets his penis chewed off by the mother of his victim. This DVD release also answers the question of "Whatever happened to that actor/actress?" with the extras. There are clips of interviews with some of the cast of virtual unknowns that starred in this classic horror/exploitation film. If you have never seen this film before...see this version and if you have seen it before and were nauseated or disturbed by it, you haven't seen anything yet!

Summary: I'll Never Forget this Movie
Review: I saw "Last House on the Left" on September 22, 1972 with 2 of my friends. I was 16 years old. We only made it through about 1/2 the movie. We left when the huge knife flung up. This movie was gruesome, and I can hardley recommend it. I was so shaken up about this movie I could not sleep for weeks. Even now I feel upset writing this. I have since rented the movie to compare how I felt then to how I feel now. It still has an impact, but not as much as it did back then. I believe that is because movie content has changed over the years and there are far more disturbing movies out today. I had no idea what was going to happen in the movie and was shocked to see what happened to the 2 girls that hitch hiked into New York City to see a concert. If you like gore and watching psychos in action, rent this movie. I guarantee you will feel sick after you see it.
