Summary: Easily the least of series
Review: Sure, this film has some pretty disgusting gore effects, but by no means is it as good as the other two. Near the begining, it tried a bit too hard to be "with it" by using new-fangled foul language. Also, the humans are too nasty to care about this time around. This film starts off with the world is in even worse shape than it was in DAWN OF THE DEAD. Now, zombies have completely overrun humanity (outnumbering normal humans by 400,000 to 1) and the only survivors for miles (in the world?)--scientists and millitary personnal--dwell in fallout shelters trying to find a way to deal with the problem. One scientist wants to domesticate the zombies he's studying. The threads holding this social structure together are being torn apart daily. Morale is low, the soldiers are corrupt and depraved, and a power hungry blowhard rules everyone with threats. Each day they get closer to killing each other. Essentially, none of the characters are redeeming or interesting enough to be sympathetic. The movie takes place almost entirley underground. The first half of the movie is all talk and tedium. Then, of course, the zombies arrive, plowing through everyone by the thousands, and evicerating all the characters you're glad to see die at this point (and in one of the film's least plausible moments, one zombie, an ex-soldier, sees that the scientist is dead, picks up a pistol, and pursues his killer.). And, of course, the film will be gorier this time (rivalind EVIL DEAD and even DEAD ALIVE), with the usual intestine slurping scenes. Also, there will be a woman and one jamacan guy to help her (avoiding the cliche that black guys never survive horror movies, but fullfilling the cliche in Romero's series where a black hero always takes initiative and assumes a decicive role). Plus, you will realize that the true enemies in the movie are the healthy survivors, while the zombies are only forces of nature etc, etc, Why does this material all seem familiar? George A. Romero has used all of these techniques before, with greater skill and professionalism. His goal here simply seems to top the last two outings in gore and grittiness. It contains none of the humor or visual interest of DAWN OF THE DEAD. Although the scenes that add speculation about the zombies are fairly interesting, this film lacks the horror, shock, emotional impact, and genuine power of the last two. If you disagree with me on this one, rent NIGHT or DAWN and try to guess who will survive. You'll be surprized. At the end of the last two, My emotions betrayed me, and as I took both videoes out of the vcr, I was totally stunned. I felt simultaneously triumphant and defeated, awe-struck at the power of NIGHT and DAWN. Although the ending of DAY is "happier" than that of DAWN and certainly NIGHT, all the film's soulessness left me feeling depressed. I'm being generous by giving it three stars. Watch it if you're a zombie fan, but NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD and DAWN OF THE DEAD are vastly better.

Summary: Horror fans should seriously consider watching this film
Review: If you haven't see Day of the Dead and you're reading the viewer reviews of this film, it's presumably because you're either a zombie fan or you loved Night of the Living Dead and/or Dawn of the Dead. But you're not sure whether or not to watch this film because of the mixed reviews it received. My recommendation is that you should rent this film and watch it twice and if you liked the film buy the Anchor Bay remaster widescreen version. The plot to Day of the Dead is simple. The world has been conquered by zombies, as seen in Day's predecessors. There are only 12 survivors left in Florida and they've taken refuge in an underground salt mine and silo. There's heated conflicts between the soldiers and the scientists and civilians and by the end, thousands of zombies pour into the silo and wreak graphic havoc. Yes, Day of the Dead is extremely graphic and gory (It's probably the most violent and gory American horror film ever made) as most zombie films are. But this one actually has an original and interesting plot. Despite what some critics said about it, I found them to be wrong. The acting is also considerably stronger than Night or Dawn. There's also the infusion of new ideas such as an intelligent and human zombie and amputation to stop the spread of infection. The make up effects are also Tom Savini's best so don't miss the film.

Summary: A horror gem
Review: Most people will probably disagree with my opinion that Day of the Dead is the best film in writer-director George A. Romero's Living Dead series. Admittedly, Day is a very claustrophobic and dark film, but I found its plot more original with a lot more ideas than its predecessors and the ending was a lot more upbeat, too. In my opinion, the special effects were marvelous, with some of the best makeup I've ever seen in a horror film. Another plus is the soundtrack from John Harrison which I liked a lot more than the Goblin music from Dawn of the Dead.

Summary: One of the best movies ever made
Review: Day of the Dead is perhaps one of the best movies ever made for many reasons. One is because of its horror. This movie is very scary and can scare the crap out of anybody. Another reason is because of its gore. This movie is very gory. For example, the zombies get a hold of one soldier and rips him into pieces and devours him. I love this movie and it should be regarded as one of the scariest movies ever.

Review: I bought this movie last summer and it scared me so bad I threw it away! I couldn't sleep very well for the rest of the summer. I kept picturing the scene when the zombies tore apart the bad guy in the underground bunker. Easily the scariest movie( in my mind) and the goriest!

Summary: A great way to conclude the "Dead" series
Review: George Romero surely knows how to put an end to the human race. This movie is truly wonderful. I really can't say that one movie is better than the other. Each have a distinguishing quality that sets it apart from the others. The gore at the end is great and even the long talking scenes aren't as boring as they seem if they are paid attention to. Wonderful finale! BUB ROCKS!!!

Summary: Day of the Dead is a horror masterpiece
Review: Day of the Dead is a horror film that is actually good. No, wait, it's actually excellent. I've read dozens of good reviews on George Romero's Living Dead series and decided to watch it. I was surprised that the most hated, Day of the Dead, turned out to be the best. The film basically bombed at the box office back in 1985 because three other zombie films, Return of the Living Dead (the biggest hit between the four films); Re-animator; and Lifeforce (A much, much, much bigger bomb than Day) were released the same summer. But gradually, Day of the Dead's popularity increased and it is now considered to be one of the best zombie films ever. I know I think it's the best zombie film so far. The plot of the film deals with the post apocalypse. A handful of soldiers and a couple of civilians are basically trapped in an underground bunker. They can get out, but almost the rest of the entire world has turned into the living dead. One bite from a zombie turn a human into one. Why did I like this film a lot? It's an interesting mixture of Night of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead. It mixes the suspense of Night with the inhumanity satire from Dawn and in the most part, succeeds as to where Dawn failed to generate suspense. I also found the characters in Day of the Dead to be a lot more engaging than in the other two films. It was interesting to watch a Jamaican black man, an Irishman, and a white woman work together. It's obvious Romero was trying to tell the audience something.

Summary: A Great horror film in a great horror series
Review: Writer-director Georger A. Romero's Living Dead trilogy is the best horror series out there tied with Sam Raimi's Evil Dead trilogy. In the first film Night of the Living Dead, a radioactive space probe wakes up the dead. They have a taste for human flesh and one bite can turn a human into a zombie. The sequel to Night, Dawn of the Dead, is the apocalyptic feature as we see chaos abrupting in cities. In the final (George WILL make another Living Dead movie) and best film of the trilogy, Day of the Dead, focuses on 12 remaining people in Florida. Once again, we have Romero's usual type of characters. A black man and a white woman who have the lead roles in the movie. They must try to hold off zombies and try to find a way to cure or control them. As the film's tagline says, The Darkest Day of Horror. That's exactly what the conclusion of the movie is like.
