But this version is worth owning because it has deleted scenes and other great extras... But beware, it does not have the original US ending...

Summary: ~Stayin Groovy~
Review: Groovy! Hail to the King! Who wants Some? Lets Go! Just some of our favorite characters sweet lines. If you don't already know there were two prequels to Army of Darkness; Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2. You don't really need to see those to get the actuel movie. Just go into the extras menu then click on "Deleted Scenes" there's a really good beginning in there, you should watch this before the actuel movie. Okay onto the movie....Our Anti-Hero Ash drops out of the sky after sending an ancient Candarian demon through a portal, getting sucked in with it. He ends up in medieval England 1300 A.D. surrounded by Knights and peasants. Eventuelly a wiseman figures out a way to get him home saying "You must get the Necronomicon an unholy book which i require to send you back" (A book sealed with human flesh written with blood that can summon any demon life causing its presence to posses the living). Ash goes after the book thinking its gonna be a easy job, all he has to do is say three simple words before picking up the Necronomicon, of coarse good ol' Ash forgets the last word resulting in a Skeleton Army of the Dead led by a evil version of himself in the process of slaining an entire village. Ash teaches the peasants to use science to kill the deadites (gun powder)and eventuelly modifies his car (which also came through the portal with him)into a DEATH MACHINE (>A Must See<). In this version we arn't treated to a "happy ending", but instead we get to see Ash take too many drops of a magic potion which causes him to sleep a century for every drop, he takes one too many and ends up in a post apocolyptic England. I Strongly recomend this as a gift for the holidays, or for any other time of the year.

Summary: Fourth DVD Release Still Not the One
Review: Has anyone noticed that the Sci-Fi Channel broadcast of Army of Darkness has the extra footage from this DVD plus some not available anywhere else? This includes the full scene at the beginning where Ash fights Arthur (with one shot not on this DVD in which a soldier yells something at Ash then charges at him); and the complete windmill scene where Ash wanders outside to get his horse then sees his evil double (beautifully edited with full sound effects, unlike the rough segment on this DVD).Knowing this extra footage exists in a finished quality master while this edition uses poor quality versions of the same material is puzzling and frustrating. Worse, Anchor Bay mysteriously did not THX certify this disk even though it is technically the same as disk #2 of their out-of-print SE edition, which was THX mastered. That's a rip off, baby. My wish for this film: a DVD treatment like Terminator 2 - where you can choose either the U.S. theatrical version or a full, uncut version with the original ending and ALL available footage known to humanity. This unique, hugely entertaining film has been mistreated from day one by Universal and it's time they got it right.

Summary: Hail to the King, baby
Review: Just one of many great one-liners from this movie. Although usually found in the horror section it's really a comedy. Think of it as a big budget "B" movie and a sequel to Evil Dead 2, which is also great. This movie propels our reluctant hero Ash back in time to conquer evil. It is an acquired taste and is considered on of those "cult" movies (I dislike that term). Nevertheless, it's just a fun and silly ride into the past to fight an even more silly foe. No bones about it, Army of Darkness is a great followup to Evil Dead 2 and especially enjoyable with a group of friends on a weekend.

Summary: Army Of Darkness, is it the End? Maybe not...
Review: Army of Darkness was presumably the last of the Evil Dead movies, allowing, for what many fans thought, a final glimpse of the beloved anti-hero Ash. Lighter in tone (as in it's basically a Horror/Comedy) and far less reliant on gross out makeup effects than the previous two films, Army of Darkness nevertheless stands its own as a classic Horror film. Showcasing the amazing acting talent of Bruce Campbell by putting his character, Ash, into hilarious and horrifying situations (ie. demons in a pit, mini-demented versions of himself in a twisted Liliputian attack, hundreds upon hundreds of skeletons, and three, yes three, Necronomicons!) Army of Darkness was for many fans a bittersweet end to a fantastic series, or was it? With the upcoming release of the Evil Dead videogame (you get to play Ash!) and many rumors of a fourth movie (please God, let it be true!) as well as a recent interview with Sam Raimi in Fangoria magazine where he openly expresses his wishes to helm a fourth Evil Dead film it seems Evil Dead fans greatest desire may quite possibly come true. In the Fangoria interview Raimi cited his busy schedule, the lackluster box office receipts of the first 3 films, and the lack of an existing script as some minor hurdles to creating a fourth film. As an Evil Dead fan I can vouch that I'd be right there on opening day if the film were made and I know every other Evil Dead fan would be there too. I know the home video sales of the first 3 films have been phenomenal and that might be tantalizing enough to film producers to back the project. I hope. If it has to be, Army of Darkness will stand as a good enough ending to the series, the movie is a fun experience and eternally re-watchable. But Evil Dead fans want more, dammit! And a fourth movie would be just "Groovy"!

Summary: Hey it's Army of Darkness
Review: This is the first time I've seen the added scenes from Army of Darkness...and frankly I prefer the theatrical release more...There is no way to watch the theatrical release with this disc either...you're just stuck with the Directors Cut...It seems to get REALLY dark when the Deadites are coming to attack, I had to turn up the brightness on my TV to make it distinguishable what the heck was going on...I prefer my laser disc transfer to this disc..ssoooooo...I'll probably pick up the theatrical release edition and let this one collect dust...

Review: this movie was very funney through the whole movie. some parts that where supposed to be scary where pritty lame. the best part of this movie is when ash is in the graveyard and is impersinating the 3 stooges. other then the lame scares it was a great movie

Summary: Army of Darkness
Review: The only reason I gave it 1 star is because they don't have a negative setting. This must be the worst movie I have ever seen. In fact I could'nt watch the whole thing. I bought this movie on a recommendation from a friend, now I know it was a joke. I watched about 10 mins, stopped the movie, took the DVD out, and throw it in the trash! So if you want to waste your time and money buy this movie.

Review: ARMY OF DARKNESS: LIMITED EDITION DIRECTOR'S CUT I wrote a review of EVIL DEAD and EVIL DEAD II that for one reason or another was not included in their review lists. SO I begin again on the third and final installment of the triology O' Raimi, ARMY OF DARKNESS. Nice packaging. Clear Picture. A funny commentary (common of all the Evil Dead DVDs). Anchor Bay continues to be one of the best providers of DVDs in the field. As for the film itself, I like it, though I think it is the weakest link in the trilogy. It is campier, meant to be screwball, Three Stooges. It is funny. It is not unlike the Three Stooges. It is fine, just not up to par with the others. So, Buy EVIL DEAD, EVIL DEAD II and THEN purchase ARMY OF DARKNESS. It will make you feel better, trust me

Summary: Evil Dead quite simply owns you.
Review: Above all else, remember that this DVD is a novelty item. I would not be dissuaded by any sly remarks about the supposed quality of this DVD. This release is a completely different version than the theatrical release. Some lines are different, the original ending and a lot of deleted material have been incorporated, and there are deleted scenes never placed in any cut of the movie that may be viewed separately (though you'll quickly be wishing that these scenes had been refined and added into this "definitive" DVD, as they, quite simply, explain a lot of things that just didn't make any sense). I've seen this movie in several different formats, including this DVD and both VHS editions, for a grand total of.. uh.. well over 700+ times, so believe me when I say a true fan will find little lacking with this release. After all, once you've seen a movie that many times, you're probably going to notice if the sound, picture, or whatever is bad enough to where you wish you hadn't bought this cut in the first place, right? Unfortunately, however, if you wish to view the threatrical cut, you'll have to purchase the original DVD release (this being the one shortcoming of the director's cut, aside from not including the deleted scenes as part of the motion picture).
