Summary: This is one freaky movie.
Review: My god! This movie is so orignal and weird, no wonder they banned it in England. Just don't let young kids watch this. It freaked my little sister out, because there are really circus performers in this movie, and the end is a real kicker. I recommend it if you are not faint of heart. BOO!

Summary: A "Freakish" movie indeed!
Review: This is an interesting, exciting, and bizarre movie that has a terrific cast of characters, including authentic side-show "freaks." I was riveted to my seat the first time I saw it in a theater. This is a movie like no other; although it does have an actual storyline, it is all of the wonderful actors and characters that kept me amused and delighted. I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes the "bizarre and unusual". This one is definitely a "keeper" for people that enjoy movies that are out-of-the-ordinary.

Summary: "Freaks"
Review: This movie is disturbing, surreal, and genuinely shocking at times. In places the movie seems to be following a familiar plotline, then stuns you from your lull with a shocking scene or unexpected revelation. There has been much controversy about this film due to the use of real "freaks," which has been labelled exploitation. It's shocking when you first realize you aren't looking at Hollywood special effects. But it is not just their deformities that are so hypnotic; the actor who plays Hans the dwarf's performance is bitter and chilling at times, passionate and touching at others. The menace and intensity that the freaks radiate in the final scenes is both genuine and vividly portrayed. If not for this film, we would never have seen this beautiful acting from men and women who might never have been on film otherwise. Wonderful for it's story, poignant for its acting, and frightening in its implications, "Freaks" is one of the defining movies of the horror genre.

Summary: Who are the ral freaks?
Review: Yes, not everybody will enjoy this dark classic. The first time I saw this film, I found it quite disturbing, but on seeing it again many years later, I found it to be one of the most interesting films made. Quite ahead of its time. I do not share the beliefs of some that this film was exploitive. Where else could some of the cast members of this film work? The story was quite powerful. The real monsters of this film turned out to be two "normal" people.

Summary: Dark, but expressive...
Review: I enjoy this movie everytime I see it, which is about six times now. The people in the Carnival are a treat to see and it has an involved plot line. The revenge of the "freaks" in the end make the movie a true winner in my eyes....

Summary: Beautiful, sensitive and way ahead of its time.
Review: It seems inappropriate somehow to classify this film as a "horror" classic (though I love that genre). Actually, Tod Browning's direction and the superb acting of all the cast make this a story of human rights and dignity that is as current today as it was in 1932. Everyone should see this film. Now, in the year 2000, it is quite likely that viewers will be more amazed than ever at the vision and daring of "Freaks". This one should not be missed.

Summary: One of the "darkest" love stories ever filmed
Review: Browning's "Freaks" is not for everyone. He seeks to show the emotional bond and needs of these side-show attractions. As a circus troupe considers themself a family, these deformed performers are a family within the family. There is actually a "sweetness", if you will, when Schlitzy (a male, by the way) is flattered by compliments about her (his) dress. Remember, that these "Freaks" were some of the highest paid live performers of their time. I rate this classic FIVE Gooble-Gobbles.

Summary: Excellent movie-
Review: I first saw this movie about 5 months on the AMC channel on TV. What caught my eye was the man that was just a torso. I kept it on that channel and was totally enthralled. What is so interesting is that all of the characters were real-I saw this on a special about circus sideshows, and clips from this movie were shown on that program. For instance, I learned that the torso-man fathered five children! It's just fascinating to realize and see how all of these people made the most of their lives and made livings from the way that they looked. You've got to admire them for being proud of who they are/were.
