Rating: Summary: This is without a doubt the scariest movie ever made! Review: I was about 10 years old when my sisters and I watched The Haunting on TV. To this day we still remember details. None of us has ever had the courage to watch it again. The subtlety of this movie is what makes it so frightening. It absolutely plays with your mind. If you are a true lover of ghost stories and enjoy being scared, I highly recommend this movie. If, however, you are prone to nightmares--consider yourself warned.
Rating: Summary: Incredibly scary! Review: I still remember the first time I watched this film, it was 10 years ago. My sister and I were watching TV and then it started. Right in the middle of it, we were not sure we really wanted to see the end!! The whole film is creepy but the part when the door seams to breath.. oh God!!...That night, none of us wanted to go to our bedrooms. We end up both in the same bed! I think it's the most scary horror film I ever watched and I can't wait to see the remake!
Rating: Summary: Best Horror Movie I've ever seen! Review: I saw this movie when I was 10 and I am now 35! I watched it with my best friend, and we were both scared and we still talk about the best scary movie we have ever seen!!! I can't wait for the remake. I can't imagine it will be as great as the first one though!!
Rating: Summary: Positively the most frightening movie I have ever seen Review: This is a movie from my childhood. We have had it on video for as long as I can remember- an old recording done from an airing on a TV channel that doesn't even exist anymore. Somehow the poor quality of the tape serves only to enhance the effect that this film has on me. It is the first film on the tape, followed by "The Legend of Hell House" and "The Fall of the House of Usher" starring Vincent Price, which makes for an unnerving night if you watch all three. I watch The Haunting every Halloween, because it scares me like no movie I have ever seen. What makes this film so frightening is its purely psychological nature. We are more naturally afraid of the noises in the dark and things that go bump in the night than anything else. It is a basic fear that most people have that lingers since childhood, and this film plays upon that fear beautifully. It is also a wonderful study of four well-crafted characters. No opening of any film has quite the affect on me as the opening sequence of "The Haunting"... "Hill House has stood for 90 years and might stand for 90 more." No ending is creepier: "And we who walk here walk alone."
Rating: Summary: The single scariest thing I've ever seen Review: When I was younger, around 10, my mother told me about this movie. One night, I stayed up to watch it. I got about halfway through it before I got so freaked out that I had to stop. Despite multiple attempts, it was a few years before I managed to get all the way through it alone. This is the single most deeply frightening movie I've ever seen, although if one is enamored of blood and gore, it might not do it for you. On the other hand, it might show you what fear...REAL fear...is all about.
Rating: Summary: A Very Haunted House Review: While there have been some great things written about THE HAUNTING on this Web Page, I think Mrs. Dudley's quote from the novel & movie sum it up the best:"I don't stay after I set out dinner. Not after it begins to get dark. I leave before dark comes. So there won't be anyone around if you need help. We couldn't even hear you, in the night. No one could. No one lives any nearer than the town. No one else will come any nearer than that. In the night. In the dark."
Rating: Summary: WHAT's ALL THE FUSS ABOUT? Review: Okay, so the movie did have some parts that can scare you, and the acting was excellent. But all the reviews make it sound like the scariest movie in the world!!! It's a good movie, maybe better than good.
Rating: Summary: A Haunting Classic that will forever chill you! Review: I first saw The Haunting in the theater in 1964 with some youthful friends of mine. Several times, the theater manager had to turn the lights on and stop the film to arrest the fears released into that room. To this day, The Haunting chills me through its use of black and white film and its impressionable planting of fear in the mind with subtle and powerful ease. No need for graphic depictions here. Your own subconscious fears of the unknown will fuel your terror. This film is THE finast horror venue ever conceived. Once again proving that your imagination is the best vehicle to entertainment.
Rating: Summary: A classic Review: I've always thought all these black and white scare movies were totally stupid. But this one was the best black and white scare show I've ever seen..I recommend this show to anyone who likes these kinds of movies..Hopefully the remake will be even better...
Rating: Summary: The ultimate horror movie Review: No one who has seen it will forget it. It is by far the measurement of all horror flicks that came afterwards yet never surpassed. I pull it out occasionally and when alone, late at night, pull up the covers and wait to be scared. If it is your first viewing or your hundredth, it has the same effect.
