Summary: It may the "Collection", but it sure isn't complete!
Review: I'm a big Fred Krueger fan, been once since I was like two, and trust me: This DVD has a lot, but it's missing so much more. Sure, you get the 3-d Sequence in Freddy's Dead (complete with 3-d glasses), a whole DVD full of cool as hell stuff to watch, even commentary on two films... but with the good comes the bad: All of the movies are cut. Majorly. Its a ploy from New Line and if you're a big Freddy fan like me you'll fall for it. For one, after each film in the Box Set, you get a nice featurette on that film. These were SUPPOSED to be included on the Encyclopedia DVD. Must have slipped New Line's mind, because they aren't. Other footage SUPPOSED to be on VHS is on the DVD, from the same interviews. Also, the films themselves are cut. Nightmare 5 is missing 50 seconds at least of footage that was cut! I compared my DVD copy to my VHS copy when I noticed a VERY important scene was cut that relates to another during the movie and cutting it screwed the movie up! Yeah, the DVD contains all sorts of cool stuff, blah blah blah, but there is still too much missing. If I were New Line, I would release a DVD (or two) that contained everything about Freddy just on its own, with adpatations from the book "The Nightmare Never Ends," but that will never happen. The films are high quality, but there is just so much removed... if none of it was removed, this would be the best and the only, your number 1 source for all things Fred. But when so much from him is missing... I wonder if Robert Englund knows about this... or Wes Craven for that matter...

Summary: 1, 2 Freddy's Coming For You....
Review: Here is the greatest thing for Freddy Krueger fans. This is a box with the 7 movies of the series plus a bonus DVD with a bunch of special bonus. On each DVD there are great trivias in the DVD-Rom features, great sound and captions... If you like this series, it's really worth buying. I don't have to warn you that the movies are violent, blood, sex, guts and this kind of thing, but it's fine, anyway. One of the coolest things is that there are a couple of Nightmare On Elm Street 3D glasses (you use them to see the 6th movie ending). And a booklet full of pictures and cool texts. The only reason I dont give this a maximum rating is the fact that the DVD-Rom features doesn't work on iMac... Buy it anyway. Great fun! Lock your doors, grab a crucifix and.. DO NOT SLEEP!

Summary: Anybody Wishing For A Stroll Down Elm Street Must Have This!
Review: I'm going to forget about revieweing the flicks and just say I love and respect them all (even Freddy's Dead) for different reasons, so I recommend them all. But, this Platinum Series box set is like a revelation. With new, improved picture and sound and countless extra features, it makes a must buy for anyone looking for good, campy horror fun, and at a fairly low and very bargain price. With eight discs, it's a surprise this baby got off so cheap, but I'm not complaining. The cheaper, the better, right? Anyway, I'm going to divide these up into categories of quality, so to speak.

Picture: The picture was absoloutly perfect. On all seven classics, I detected no problems with grain, film artifacts, speckles, or any other things that plague DVDS. When I buy a New Line DVD, even if it's not a special edition I know the picture will be perfect. The "Nightmare On Elm Street" films are no different. Comparing these to the videos is like comparing mud to water. It is so much clearer and everything is more pronounced than in any previous video, no matter how "Remastered In High Definition" that video was. The movies are all correctly framed at an anamorphic 1:85:1 aspect ratio. Even a twelve year old like me knows the importance of viewing a film in widescreen. I no longer buy, nor watch, fullscreen movies. It is a stupid and ridiculous thing to do. We should all respect what the director and cinematagrograpers (sp?) vision was, and not butcher it by chopping off the sides of the picutre. I'm glad to see other people realize this, too, though many others do not. Viewed on my widescreen TV (which I payed all three thousand dollars for myself out of lots of allowance, thank you very much), the movie only looked even better. In fact, the color seemed even more superior to my standard TV (didn't pay for that one). Well, the point is, these movies look better than ever, and I truly can't imagine them looking any better. Major kudos to New Line. If there were no special features on this set, the picture quality would still earn the set five stars. Yes, friends, it's that good. You can tell a lot of time and effort went into these transfer. 5/5

Sound: Spellbinding. The movies are presented in two different formats. There's the oringal audio (mono on first three and stereo on 4, 5, 6, and 7), or the remixed 5.1 surround sound mixes. When listned to in surround sound, the movies sounded fantastic. Dialogue and effects were all spread evenly throughout the five channels, and there were tons of sound effects that you wouldn't har on video because it is so muffled. If you don't have surround sound, the 5.1 still sounds good, though the stereo and mono are all pretty good, too (over the last week I watched all of them in their original sound). However, I have trouble with Wes Craven's New Nightmare. It seems I'm constantly grabbing the remote to turn the sound up or down. That was the only problem of the whole sound. 4/5

Special Features: This is where the set gets its Platinum title. There is an eighth disc in here called "The Nightmare Encyclopdia." It deserves that title. Every film is spread out separately in an index with plenty of different interviews that reveal very cool information, and finally spread some light on topics not talked about before (the homo-erotic undertones in Part 2). The people being interviewed are all very honest and open about how they feel about the films. Some even talk about how they were stretching the series too far, and the lame 3-D ending of Part 6. None of the interviews are boring, and in fact, I just watched all of them for the fourth time, today (I bought this set in 1999). There is an original ending for Part 1, which isn't much different. There's a second one hidden in the Labyringht, and it's not to different, either (don't bother looking). The labyringh is a sort of video game on the disc. It will not work on some players, but works fine on mine. I have a lot of fun with this game, but some won't. I can understand the frustration of having to play the game to get stuff, but I love playing. A lot of stuff here can be found in the index, but there's new material, as well, including funny interviews with fans.

The discs themselves are pretty bare, because all the special features have been moved to the eighth disc, but there are commentaries on 1 and 7. Both are fascinating, but I much preffer the one on 7. I guess when Wes Craven talks alone, more information comes out then when he talks with a lot of other people. But, both are fascinating. There's also a Cast and Crew section, that at times can be quite interesting (read the Brooke Bundy one to see ehat she thinks of the "Halloween" movies), and a "Jump To A Nightmare" option. There is A PAIR of 3-D glasses provided for Part 6. The reason I highlight A PAIR, is because all these other reviews promised two pairs, but mine only came with one. By that I mean A 3-D goggle thing, not two. So, if I have a friend over and we watch the 3-D ending, either he or I have to watch it all blurry and fuzzy. It's a little annoying. Also, the 3-D end is weak, and if you're getting this set just to have that, you'll be dissipointed. It doesn't work very well. The only time I felt like anything was coming out of the screen was when a parent threw a bottle, and that still didn't look very good. I usually just watch it in 2-D. 4/5 (More like 4 and a half out of five).

Now, there are some bads things in this set. That is my only reason for lowering the extras grade. First, and foremost, the deleted scenes provided on the Special Edition video cassette of Part 1 are missing here. Also, Part 6 aired on FX with three extra scenes, and they're not here. The cut of Part 5 is R-Rated, not Unrated. I preffer the Unrated version (have it on video) because it explains the line Freddy says, "You are what you eat." He was feeding Greta her own guts, but in the R-Rated version you don't know that. Also, Dan turning into a motorcycle was much gorier in the Unrated version. New Line has learned from their mistakes, though, and most of the DVDs they make now contain an R-Rated and an Unrated cut. Anyway, those are my small complaints (oh, and I would have liked commentaries on all the films), that bring it down a notch. Other than those, this set is a must buy. Any Freddy fan will die over this set, and you'll watch it over and over again for the years to come. One day, I intend to share these films with my children (when they're older), and they'll see all the horror, comedy, and fun of one of the best sagas of all time.

"Welcome to prime time, [*]!"

Summary: my thoughts about fred krueger
Review: i thought that the DVD was okay, but i liked the videos better because they didnt censor out the gory parts, but all in all, the plots were pretty good, and the 3-d glasses they give you worked pretty well. i got the DVD set last year-2002- and I was 11 years old at the time. i was so excited, but i was disapointed when i found out they censored out gret's death. i recomend this to any fred grueger.

Summary: One, Two, this DVD's for you!
Review: This set provides the essentials, the movies one through seven. However the Encyclopedia disc is simply PACKED with extras. I think there is nearly 2 or 3 hours of extras. With that, any Nightmare lover can see the entity of this movie in so much depth and detail. You'll also find, if you haven't already, that Robert Englund and Wes Craven are "Bloody" genius'. There is a reason why A Nightmare on Elm Street is simply the BEST horror movie franchise in existence, and this collectors box set gives you 8 reasons why. Unlike it's rivals, the Nightmare series travels, it covers so many aspects of the evil inside (without embarassing itself by traveling to space!).
If there is one thing I truly respect about this series is the sequels. Although parts 2-6 were not really scary, they did deliver what would become the quintessence of Freddy. The sarcastic, sometimes hilarious demon anti-hero who you can't help but cheer for. Also, it does something that no other horror movie franchise has. It's final part leaves the viewer just like the first one: terrified. I really feel that New Nightmare was so overrated yet so very well done.

If you love these movies, BUY THIS SET! Well worth the money!

Summary: There's nothing else left to say...
Review: ... but I'll go for it anyway. I completely agree with the many reviewers who proclaim this collection as the best DVD boxed set available. While I don't really care as much for part 5 or 6, the first four films are absolute classics (yes, even the underappreciated second film), and New Nightmare is decent. The original A Nightmare on Elm Street ranks among the greatest horror films ever made, and Freddy is a horror icon without peer. The extra disc is packed with extra material, and the interactive labrynth is a very cool idea. They don't make 'em like this anymore!

It has sound options, bios, chapter selections. It also has special DVD additional to this collection. You won't be disappointed to own this. Buy it before it goes out of stock!

Summary: Awesome Collection of Horror Classics
Review: I grew up with these movies. And although they scared me when i was little, I still liked watching them! I remember avoiding meatballs for months after seeing the meatball pizza scene in A Nightmare On Elm Street 4: The Dream Master. I hadn't seen some of these movies in a while, and I wasn't sure I should spend this much money on this collection. But I finally decided to do it, and it was worth it. This collection is awesome! Not only the movies, but the packaging is good too. The front covers on the cases have really cool pictures (different from the DVD's which are sold seperately) The original covers for Nightmares 1, 3, 4 and Fredd's Dead are included, and brand new artwork for Nightmares 2, 5, and New Nightmare. The slipcase box is cool too with 2 different freddy images on each side, and the enclosed booklet is nice as well, but maybe could have inclded more stuff. The eight disc (The Nightmare Encyclopedia) is a game-type disc where you hunt for clues and find hidden features. ...
Now for the movies:
"A Nightmare On Elm Street"
The best of the best, and still the scariest of all the movies. I really love this movie, and even though the special effects are simple, they are effective. The characters in this movie are cool, and Freddy himself is dark, mysterious and frightening (as opposed to some of the other movies) I rate this movie 10/10
"Freddy's Revenge"
A lot of people hate this one, but I really like it a lot, epecially after seeing it again recently for the first time in a long while. I found the homo-erotic references intriguing, and although the Jesse character isn't as strong as Nancy was in Part 1, he gives the Freddy experience a new dimension because he is scared of Freddy (as Nancy was), but Jesse is losing control while being taken over by Freddy and he doesn't know how to handle it. I rate it 8/10
"The Dream Warriors"
I've seen this one more than the others, not necessarily because I lik it more. I think it's the 4the best in the series (after Pt. 1, 4, and 2) The story line is good, the characters are interesting, and they brought Nancy back! The only thing I don't like is that they killed Nancy at the end. They should have let her live and she should have been the one to kill Freddy in Fredd's Dead, not the stupid daughter. OVerall rating 7/10
"The Dream Master" I Think this is the 2nd best of the series. The special effects are cool (especially the pizza and roach scenes..yuck!) The Alice character was a good addition, but I don't like the fact that they killed off the last 3 dream warriors from the last film. They should have left them out of this one, except maybe for Kristen because she was necesarry in this film in order to bring more teenagers to Freddy. But still, she should have lived, and Patricia Arquette should have reprised her role. Anyway, I think this is the most entertaining of the series. 9/10
"The Dream Child" This one's more dark than the last, and kind of gives a reminiscence of the first Nightmare in terms of that darkness, but it's definitely not as good. I think this one is ok, but maybe a little boring at times. I really did like the Greta character's death, and was really disappointed to discover that the DVD collection included the R rated version so Greta's death scene was toned down (it was the best part of the uncut version! If you don't know what's going on, Freddy cut open Gret's stomach and feeds her her own guts) Anyway, the movie was a good effort with decent outcomes. Rating 7/10
"Freedy's Dead"
Worst of the series! Oh my gawd, this movie is so stupid. OK, it has a few entertaining and interesting moments, but Freddy is WAY to comical in this one and is just plain not scary. I understand that may have been the intention, but still. And why did his dumb daughter show up all of a suddedn?? I didn't like how freddy was killed at all, and the movie felt like it ended abruptly because they killed him, then a close up of the daughter's face and she says "Freddy's dead". End of film. What-evah! Oh, and the 3-D sequence was stupid too. 4/10
"New Nightmare" This one's good, but like a previous reviewer said, it's a bit long and you can only watch it so many times before you get sick of it. Still,it's a good film 7/10
So is this worth it? YES. As a whole, it's nice to have all these movies, especially if you're as fond of them as i am
So get it!
