Summary: The BEST DVD Collection
Review: Fred Krueger, a name that brought fear to me as a child, and I'm sure to plenty of others. But I began to overcome my fears by watching the Nightmare on Elm Street movies 1 by 1. Then I began to constantly rerent them. Why? Becuase they are the most interesting movies. Wes Craven, creator of the series, made what you thought the safest thing to do, the most harmful thing to do. Sleeping. Fred Krueger was a child murdered who was burnt by the parents of the children he murdered a few years back. Now, Nancy Thompson and her friends are having dreams of a man in a red & green sweater, and that has knives for fingegs. Nancy's friend began to die mysterious deaths, and Nancy knows who's to blame, Fred Krueger. After finding out about his past, Nancy turns to adults for help. Not even they will believe her. So now it's up to her and only her to fight Freddy. That was the first. The first that spawned 6 sequels. All of them record breaking movies! Now, the sequels and the original are brought together in a top-notch dvd collection, along with an extra DVD called the Nightmare Encylopedia. The Nightmare Encyclopedia is every Nightmare On Elm Street lover's paradise. With over hours of interviews with cast & crews of the movies, snippets from Freddy's MTV Special, behind-the-scenes footage, theatrical trailers, music videos, and even 2 alternate endings! I don't know how anyone will ever beat this DVD collection.

Summary: Superb presentation of a classic, if inconsistent series.
Review: "The Nightmare on Elm Street Collection"

This is perhaps as good as DVD collections get. The box set is very nicely packaged, with all seven films from the series presented in their original aspect ratios with clean, crisp transfers on each. While most of the sequels lack any special features, the first film has been given better attention. One minor quibble is that the commentary included is simply the one recorded for the 1995 Laserdisc version, although given that this was just post-New Nightmare, it is current enough.

One major plus in this collection is the bonus disc, the Nightmare Encyclopedia. Packed with interview segments with all six directors (Craven directed two) and a few other industry figures (including Clive Barker), the bonus material is offered either by a film-by-film index or as part of an interesting labyrinth puzzle game. You must explore the maze, picking up certain objects while avoiding Freddy, and occasionally unlock extra bonus material you can't find any other way (the first time I did this I found the Dokken music video from Nightmare 3 which was cool).

Also included for the completists are two pairs of 3D glasses for viewing the 3D sequence at the end of Freddy's Dead. But don't worry if the glasses don't seem to work for the whole sequence because it never worked to begin with. Some of it is great - mostly the stuff shot the old-fashioned way with a two camera set-up - while a lot of it will give you a headache - most of this was simulated 3D done in the computer and it doesn't work. Never mind, it's still a fun addition to an otherwise great box set.

Of the seven films, most fans tend to agree that the 1st, 3rd and 7th films are the strongest - incidentally the ones written and/or directed by Craven and starring Heather Langenkamp as Nancy - but it's still nice to have the whole series here together.

Summary: Great Movies
Review: This one of the best horror series and Freddy is my favorite horror villian. Some of these movies will make you laugh, and some will make you scared, but what ever your fear is, Freddy knows it best. This series is a bit better than the Friday The 13th series and way better than the Halloween series. The Halloween series screwed itself up 4 times and that makes a pretty bad series. I really only like the first two in the Halloween series. But all of these are great films and don't let you down. Wes Craven introduced us to the villian Freddy back in 1984, 20 years ago. That's so long ago, and yet the series still goes on today.

A Nightmare On Elm Street- This was the best of the series no doubt. It's gory, creepy, scary and a little bit funny. The special effects are great in this film.
10/10
Rated R for violence, strong gore, langauge and brief nudity.

A Nightmare On Elm Street 2- This film really stands with pride, but not nearly as much pride as others in the series. It still was gory and creepy, but just didn't have the magic of the first one.
7/10
Rated R for graphic violence, gore, strong language, drug use and brief nudity.

A Nightmare On Elm Street 3- This is just as good as the first one and really makes up for the mistakes in the second one. It is creepy and quite funny.
10/10
Rated R for gore, violence and nudity.

A Nightmare On Elm Street 4- This film is where Freddy becomes quite funny, and I was one of the people who didn't care that he bacame funny, cause it was still gory and creepy.
8/10
Rated R for violnce, gore, language and nudity.

A Nightmare On Elm Street 5- This was an ok film but was my least favorite of the series and made the first one look like oscar material. It was still funny and creepy, but no where near gory.
6/10
Rated R for graphic violnce and language.

Freddy's Dead- This was another great entry in the series and was very funny and was much much gorier than the 5th one. This is a great deal in this box set.
8/10
Rated R for violence and mild gore.

New Nightmare- The return of Craven made this movie a gem. It wasn't funny, but it was good creepy gory fun that was exciting and had a great cast.
9/10
Rated R for violnce and gore.

So get this box set................NOW.

Summary: Great box set
Review: Contains all 7 nightmare on elm street films plus an eighth disk called the Nightmare series Encyclopedia, its really cool and has facts about all 7 nightmare films but its like a game and you have to get through the maze or Labryinth and find all the clues to unlock certain things. A documentary exploring the labryinth, and dvd rom content and you can save freddy to your computer screen and when you push button he pops up-Has cool packaging with freddy on the cover and comes with 3-d glasses for the freddy's dead film. My only complaint is the snap cases the dvd's are in. They fingerprint easy and sometimes they are harder to shut or snap close. The best films in the series i think are the original and the nightmare on elm street 3 dream warriors.
1.The original nightmare on elm street- 5 stars out of 5 stars
2.Freddy revenge- 2-3 stars
3.Dream warriors- 5 stars
4.The dream master-4 stars
5.The dream child-3.5- 4 stars
6.Freddys dead- 2-3 stars
7.wes cravens new nightmare-4.5 stars
8.Nightmare series encyclopedia-5 out of 5 stars
Overall great box set/worth the money
Also includes a cool booklet inside all about freddy

Review: I have never watched a DVD collection so much as this series. It has everything you could ever possibly want in a Freddy collection. I was totally amazed not only did they have all of the movies of course. But for Freddy's Dead they installed the 3D version I remember seeing in the theater along with the 3D glasses. The jump to menu scene's and interactive menu's are absolutely incredible. They even have jump to nightmare available as well. I also had a chance finally to go through the commentary's on Nightmare on Elm Street with Wes Craven, Heather Langencamp, John Saxon and Jacques Haitkin (Director of Photography) do an entertaining job of spilling secrets and how they did certain scene's and what was going on at the time of the making of the film. The only one missed was Robert Englund of course. Also Wes Craven does more commentary with Wes Craven's New Nightmare and gives even a more insight to the new and darker Freddy and some interesting tidbits on Heather Langencamp and some of the other actor's as well as characters. But with this purchase you won't be sorry at all. This is for any huge Freddy Fanatic. The pictures are as clear as can be. And each DVD comes with something extra and the entire set comes with an additional DVD which is an encyclopedia to the series which I have yet to go through myself. Even if you've never experienced The Nightmare on Elm Street series before this is the best way to do it. But I highly recommend this set. It's one of the best. And it brought back a lot of fun memories of watching the movies late at night on Television when they used to be played a lot, but the best thing is that the movies are un cut. But everything about it is a magnificent item to buy for a horror fan or a DVD collector!

Summary: My Favorite Horror Series Gets The Correct Treatment.
Review: The Nightmare On Elm Street films are absoloutley classic gems from the late 1980s, and continuing to the early 1990s. Each film is outstanding in its own individual way (Yes, I liked Part 2 and Part 5). This is my very favorite horror series, due mostly to the strong imagination, and my all time favorite killer, Freddy Krueger (Robert Englund). The Nightmare series has had its fair share of stars as well, something most slasher movies do not have. John Saxon, Ronee Blakely, Johney Depp, Hope Lange, Clu Gulager, Patricia Arquette, ackademy award nominee Larry Fishburne (The Matrix), Rosseane, Tom Arnold, and Alice Cooper. The man who first began this awesome series is the one and only Wes Craven, my favorite horror director. Other directors included Jack Sholder (Part 2), Chuck Russel (Part 3), Renny Harland (Part 4), Stephen Hopkins (Part 5), and Rachel Talalay (Freddy's Dead). Craven returned to direct number seven, and also to co-write number three. My order of favorite to least favorite goes.... part 1 gets five stars. 2 gets three and a half stars. 3 gets five stars. 4 gets four and a half stars. 5 gets three stars. 6 gets five stars, and 7 gets five stars. What I admire the most about the Nightmare series is that they were able to continue by introducing to us new and inventive (and really interesting) ideas, such as The Dream Warriors, or the ability to go into someone else's dream and save them. Also, the ways that they bring Freddy back are always really interesting, he never just pops up and is alive again. There's always a good explanation for how he came back (like using Alice's unborn baby's dreams in part 5). As for special effects, well, by todays standards, they're OK. But by the 80's standards, they were awesome!!!! Almost every death is filled with some sort of an effesct. But to me, they're really fun to watch.

As a fan of The Nightmare On Elm Street series, you can propably see why I was happy to see that New Line Cinema had gone and released a box set. And wow! If you're thinking about whether or not to buy this box set or not because of the money, well, it's well worth it!!! You get 8 disks for... dollors (did Amazon edit out the price I just wrote? I hope not), and each disk is really cool. Each film opens with magnificent animated menus. I'm sure all you fans of the series will notice how wonderful the sound and picture is. That's the first thing I noticed! The sound is really good and loud, and the picture is better than any other copy I've ever seen. Crystal clear, sparkling, definatley the best picture. The first film includes a "Jump To A Nightmare" scene navigation, so you can jump straight to a murder scene, and after it's over, it goes back to the menu. Also included are cool Production Notes, as well as an Audio Commentary by Writer/Director Wes Craven, Director Of Photography Jaques Haitkin, and Actors Heather Langenkamp and John Saxon. Very cool. The next five movies have just the basic stuff (Jump To A Nightmare, Production Notes), but the seventh film includesa commentary by Wes Craven, which is really interesting. Then, the bonus eighth disk (The Nightmare Series Encyclopedia) has behind the scenes footage for ALL seven films, as well as theatrical trailers, and a really weird game called "The Labyrith", where you have to play through this interactive enviorment to get all sorts of behind the scenes footage. I'd rather that you can just acces the behind the scenes stuff though, so I rarely play this game. A few extras that come with the box are a collectible booklet, and one pair (yes, ONE pair) of 3-D glasses, for the end of Freddy's Dead. I preffer the 2-D version, but the glasses are a nice extra. Some people have complained that the verion of Part 5 in this set is not the director's cut. But, the director's cut is almost exactly the same, so I really don't mind that (and besides, I have that version on an old video). My only small complaint is this.... I think it would be nice to have and episode of "Freddy's Nightmares" in this set. I have seen some episodes from that show. They're not nearly as good, but I feel that with one episode of that show (or two) it would make this box set a COMPLETE collection. But, that's my only complaint, other than that, I suggest you go and buy this set now! It's really something every fan shouldn't be without.

If you found my review helpful, please vote for me. Thank you.

Summary: Nightmare On Elm Street is awesome.
Review: Freddy Kruger has got to be the scariest character in any movie Ive ever seen. Some way and somehow he always manages to pop up into your dreams.I love horror and the Nightmare On Elm Street Series has some movies that are pure horror.Out of all the movies the original Nightmare On Elm Street and New Nightmare are the scariest.Have you ever seen anything quite as scary as the beginning of Nightmare On Elm Street where he brutally kills Tina?I havent. That scene is the best scene in the movie it manages to be cartoonish and realistic. And New Nightmare is just plain scary.I also like Dream Master and Dream Warriors almost as much. Those 4 movies are the reasons why you should own this set even though the other movies are pretty decent too and give you a chance to be a critic.

Summary: One of the great series of our generation
Review: I remember watching A Nightmare on Elm Street, on T.V. when I was a little kid. I got so scared, I couldn't sleep for two weeks. Frddy Krueger, that vname has stuck in my mind forever. I love what they have done with the box set for DVD. The bonus Disc is so Bitchen. With all the extras and interviews, it could take all night to finish it. I also like the Halloween Movies too.And Friday the 13th. I think their should be a movie called Freddy Krueger,Jason Vorhees, and Michael Myers, battle of the Millinuim. I love the DVD set and Keep it Up. WHAT EVER YOU DO DON'T FALL ASLEEP! As Quoted by Heather LangenKamp to Johnny Depp in A Nightmare on Elm street (1984)

Summary: Pushed the limits when DVD was new
Review: Although the DVD is lower on the standards of some others, it should be remember that this one was released when DVD was brand spanking new, and that at the time it was seriously pushing the limits.

Even if you keep its age in check, this is still one of the supreme examples of how to do a box set. My Walmart is still selling this set, and they never do that with DVD releases this old.

The movies have their ups and downs, my favorite being the first, third, and seventh. 6th is the only one I truly hate and despise.

While the DVDs themselves don't offer many extras, except perhaps part 1 and some of 4, the nightmare encyclopedia dvd more than makes up for any qualms. This thing will take hours to get through (if you ever make it that is, it's hard) as well as countless music videos, interviews, clips, mtv hosting, behind the scenes stuff, pictures, trailers and...well,

THE BEST DAMN DVD MENU DESIGN EVER!

Overall I have faults with it (such as how annoying it is that it sends you all the way to the beginning if you miss a beat, or that using the control gets really old. I would have also liked seeing more extras on the discs themselves instead of divided so much.) but because of sheer effort and blood, sweat, and tears alone - I couldn't just give this one four stars.
