Summary: Odd film!
Review: This film has been given a lot of praise over the years. I don't get it. It's very surreal if you like that kind of thing. Candy Clark is naked a few times, but the film itself is rather boring.

The camerawork was interesting in this film and that is about all the praise I can give it other than Candy Clark.

Summary: How to explain this movie...
Review: This is one of those films that is best watched in the dark, by yourself, because sometimes, you just might want to shout out "WHAT?"

Basically this movie is a great cult classic about an alien who comes to our planet in search of water for his desert planet. David Bowie... how do you rate his performance with that of other conventional actors? You can't. He is brilliant in his role as Mr. Newton! I was completely mesmerized and even attracted to him as the thin redhead. I was surprised however that he was completely unclothed in one scene, but hey, it didn't hurt any part of the movie!

I would recomend this to anyone, period. I give the movie a 5, but Bowie's performance gets a 10!

Summary: A Brilliant, Understandable Film For Intelligent People
Review: Too often, I have heard people put down this film because it is "confusing, without plot, and pointless". All I can say is that I saw this movie before I ever read the book, and I wasn't confused in the slightest.

The film, about an alien who comes to Earth to get water for his drought-stricken planet, ends up never going home because he slips into alcoholism, falls in love, and ends up making too much money for his own good.

Think about it - why WOULDN'T this film be confusing? Imagine how YOU would feel if you literally "fell to earth," were surrounded by things you'd never experienced, but had only seen on television before. I believe the director was aiming to portray Thomas Jerome Newton's confusion to his audience. Watching the film, one can't help but feel just as misplaced, uncomfortable, and lonely as the alien.

This is a completely beautiful, depressing journey from one "man"'s journey into becoming "human," so to speak. He slips into human habits, which ends up being his downfall.

For its time, this film's special effects and lighting effects were wonderful, and it still stands as one of my favorite films ever made.

If this film confused you, I highly suggest you read the book, then watch the film again - hopefully that will help. If not, or if you still don't like the film, all I can say is that you probably don't possess the mentality necessary to grasp the complexities and beauty of this film.
