Summary: Only Cronenberg...
Review: This is Croneberg's best film (and that's really saying something). Filled with intriguing ideas, slick direction, fine acting, and special effects that are just cool. This (along with Brazil, Robocop, and Full Metal Jacket) is one of the best movies of the 80's. The plot isn't confusing, but it will go over some people's heads. Some people will mistake this as being stupid. Like all of Cronenberg's movies, it's original to the point of being bizarre. There's a whole lot of stuff here that some people might not want to see. Like hallucinogens, Videodrome is for those who can handle it.

Summary: Videodrome....whoa
Review: I can't believe nobody knows about this film! This wonderful trip into violence on television really stuck in my mind a long time after viewing. James Woods is excellent as Max Renn, the cable station programmer who's violent program lineup "provides an outlet for the viewers frustrations." He believes his search for the perfect show is complete when he accidentally taps into a program called 'Videodrome' on a pirate satellite. Mesmerized by the display of graphic violence, Max sets out to find the person behind Videodrome, but not before it's deadly side effect takes over his life. This movie, althought semi-dated and cheesy at moments, it quite visually spectacular and a top notch, ahead of it's time psychological thriller, not to mention extremely graphic in a few scenes. Definately worth seeing.

Review: James Woods always gives strong performances in almost all his movies, in a Comedy (The Hard Way), in a Horror Film (John Carpenter`s Vampires), in a Drama (Another Day In Paradise) or in a Suspense (The General Daughter) always great as usual in these different kind of performances.He Plays-Max Renn is a Controversial Cable Programmer, he co-own an small T.V. station, he show soft-core films to hard-core violence. Then one day, a friend of his, catch on a satellite scramble a pirate T.V. show, Called-VideoDrome is torture, rape and people are murdered for real ? Once he watch it, is no turning back, he starting to have-hallucination. Then he find out, what VideoDrome really means-Invader is a television show that seduces and controls its viewers. is it meant for for whole wide world to know, what it is? Unusaul Premise From Controversial Director-David Croneneberg (Crash, The Dead Zone, The Fly-1986) is a bit familiar from previous film-eXistenZ. Deborah Harry of Blondie-in a small role, she plays-Nicki Brand. One of a kind, From Make-Up Artist-Rick Baker (An American Werewolf In London) are Visual Outsanding. So is that same year in 1982, an young Make-Up Artist-Rob Bottin did a Outstanding job on-John Carpenter`s The Thing. VideoDrome is not for all taste but for David Cronenberg`s Fans will have a blast, watching this new shocking vision from Science-Fiction and Horror Films. Grade:A-.

Summary: Videodrome is simply astounding, like it or not.
Review: Videodrome is a Stunning, shocking, strange journey into ... Well im not quite sure, but believe me that it's a wild ride. The film is full of images and visuals that will either have you stareing in awe, or have you fleeing in disbelief (or disgust). If you allow yourself to be taken in by the bizzare plot, you will enjoy yourself much more. (P.S. As in eXistenZ, the ending will provoke varied reaction, and much discussion)

Review: A lot of good movies out there are ruined by their extreme length but here's an example of a good movie that fails because it's too short...at a little over 80 minutes, Videodrome does not wait around for you to catch on and most viewers, I suspect, will be totally lost...on the other hand, James Woods gives an excellent performance (as usual), the special effects are terrific, and I couldn't take my eyes off Deborah Harry the whole ten minutes she was in the movie...

Summary: It has TRUE fear in it
Review: Hey, forget the gore. You can have a bloodbath movie and it not be scary. This one gets into your head where real fear comes from. This is one of the creepy, scariest flicks I have ever seen gore or not. It was way ahead of it's time for the effects but even that is not where the element of fear comes from. I saw it when it first came out and it is still as scary today. If you like real goosebump raising, prickly scalp, is someone watching me, "Hitchcockian" fear don't pass this one up! A nearly unknown cult classic because it is probably too intense for most peoples taste.

Summary: Yeah Debra!
Review: Granted this movie is definately not everyones cup of tea.But for those into wierdness like yours truly this movie really fits the bill.James Woods and Debra Harry(remember when it used to be Debbie Harry?) gave a screen performance as lovers that makes one wonder if maybe something wasn't also going on backstage. Even if there wasn't it makes for wonderful fantasy thoughts!I will admit that as a male fasinated with Debra Harry this movie is a perfect vehicle for alot of my fantasies about her.But getting back to the movie,it has alot of fine actors and although the plot may seem a little silly the special effects for back then(check out the really old VCR player in James Woods place if you didn't bother to see when this movie was made) were really pretty well done for such a low budget film.Of course there is lots of gore for all of us horror film fans-does this suprise any hardcore Cronenberg fans out there?Anyway i have one copy already that is very old and is starting to show the effects of watching over and over and over again so i am ordering this re-release.Remember, if you scare or gross out easily watch this movie with a friend or at the least the lights on!

Review: The most powerful psi-phi (psionic philosophy) film of the eighties, "Videodrome" is a mind bending masterpiece which demonstrates the absolute subjective nature of reality. If reality is a construct of our senses, what if our senses could be controlled by outside influences? This film will make you wonder: Do we control the television, or does the television control us?

Summary: Television is the Retina of the Mind's Eye
Review: Cronenberg's early film from the 80's riding his wave from Scanners is an original film no doubt, and remains obscure for the most part. James Woods, in his usual fast-talking-coke-addict role that he plays so well, is a television producer for an underground station. Picking up some weird signals from something called 'Videodrome' where it closely resembles snuff. There is something Videodrome has that you dont have. Videodrome has a philosophy. From there Woods, who meets up with Blondie (Deborah Harry), spirals into a world where television and reality merge and mix where the lines of what we know to be real are not there anymore. If you catch yourself sliding into a hallucinatory trance, just sit back and enjoy it. This is one of Cronenbergs best films to date, also one of his most odd. Not for the squeamish, or those who like their realities disturbed. The DVD version is nothing to write home about; it features the obligatory trailer and character bios. Dont buy it for the extras!
