Summary: This is just simply...one bad movie!
Review: Let me start off by saying that, for some quirky reason, I am a fan both the Zombie and Giallo genre. I'm willing to cut these films a lot of slack when I review them. That is to say, I don't even attempt to give these kinds of movies the same critical eye that I would apply to a Kurosawa or a Hitchcock. The problem is that despite all of this, this film still failed miserably.The scares in "City of the Living Dead" were cheap, the suspense was non-existent, and the characters weren't even remotely developed or interesting. Even the Fabio Frizzi soundtrack didn't seem to be able to get me interested. I think Frizzi had done a very nice little job in Fulci's "Zombie". There were really only two redeeming qualities to this film. The first is the acting. And don't get me wrong, the acting is still not very good - but it is better than much of the acting we see in these kinds of films. The other bright side in this film is the special effects. Hey, we're talking 1980 here, and the special effects really are pretty good. Unfortunately, these two points alone aren't anywhere near strong enough to save what is just simply...one bad movie!

Summary: Sweet Lord this movie is a stinker...
Review: Wow, this movie really .... I love good horror films and I will admit that I even love cheesy, badly made horror films. Even Fulci's Zombie and The Beyond were "good" , not in an "Oscar" sort of way, but in a good B horror movie kind of way, with some really good scares and some really gross moments along the way, but COTLD is so bad that there is nothing, well maybe the drill throught the head scene, but that's it, worth watching. It makes no sense at all. Vanishing dead people with oatmeal and chocolate sauce on their faces? Something about a dead priest? Who knows. It's a bunch of weird scenes poorly edited and pieced together with horrible music and bad dubbing. You could drive a truck through the plot holes, and believe me, I can normally accept a few holes, after all, I love Argento and Soavi, but this is even too much for me. Listen, Fulci made two pretty good horror flicks w/ Zombie and The Beyond, but outside of those two films...the other ones that I have seen are right down there with Lamberto Bava's God aweful Demon movies...being total .... If you have never watched Fulci, start w/ Zombie and The Beyond. If you love them, then rent this one before you buy it. Other wise check out some good horror like almost anything from Mario Bava, Dario Argento, George Romero's first two Dead films, the Evil Dead "trilogy", Re-Animator, Dead Alive, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, and the list goes on and on. Who ever placed this guy among the likes of those just mentioned must have been smokin' crack. Good horror films are not hard to find, just don't look here. Sorry all of you Fulci lovers, he did good w/ Zombie and the Beyond, but past that I just don't see it.

Summary: Don't Puke on my Shoes!
Review: ... I'm 100% happy I bought it!!! It has definitly been a long time since I've been scared out of my mind...Lucio Fulci has been put on the top of my list of directors... The story to this film, is actually very in depth, and I loved it! It's kind of hard to figure out what's going on at the beginning of the film, but as it goes on, it unfolds beautifully! Contains two of the greatest gore scenes I've seen yet. You'll have to see them for yourself, don't want to spoil it for you.

Review: I felt compelled to write a review because everyone rates this so high.this is one of the most boring movies ive ever seen.aside from the girl puking her guts and the drill through the head which i did enjoy a lot there is absolutely no other reason to watch this.i mean i like bad acting but this is so bad its like there too serious and there wasnt even any funny lines intentionly or not.anyway im just glad my copy was defected and exchanged for dario argentos deep red/tenebre which i think is a much better.anyway if you want fulci i would get the beyond/house by the cemetary collection because those are good in my opinion.

IF YOU ARE A PERSON THAT DOESN'T LIKE GROSS/GORY MOVIES, THEN THIS WILL NOT INTEREST YOU VERY MUCH.

Summary: Fulci's absolute best!!!!!
Review: This movie is terrorific as it was made by the best italian horror movie director of all time Lucio Fulic! He was loved by fans like myself but, was often hated by critics. Critics say that his films were made just for entertainment. The entertainment was the gore. Critics also said that his films had absolutely no plot. Their wrong! Critics...! This movie is a masters work and does throw out some very goood brutal scenes of over the top gore! Fulci is the master! Buy this and also check other gore cult classic like The Beyond, and Zombie!

Summary: An Excellent DVD trensfer for a Four-Star movie.
Review: The Movie: This is Lucio Fulci's second Horror film which is a follow up to his " Zombie", it's a 1980 Supernatural Thriller about a Priest who murders himself and unleashes these Zombies and Ghosts into the town of Dunwitch which causes big trouble over there. A Reporter, a Psychic and others must closes the Gates of hell before all Human Souls are lost, this is a very entertaining, gory and fun movie that came under a different title called " Gates of Hell" but this is the uncensored version which contains more dialog and gore than before, it includes the uncensored scenes of the famed scene " involving a Woman Puking up her blood, internal Organs and Guts out of her Mouth" and the scene where a " Pervert gets Drilled in the head by a super Drill", this is a fun movie but not for the squeamish yet it can be watched over and over again. The DVD: Great transer with good picture and excellent sound yet minimum Extras, neverthess the DVD is great. It's not Fulci's best movie cause that honor belongs to " The Beyond" but this is worth a look and worth owning for every Horror fan. Also recommended: Zombie, Day of the Dead, Dead Alive, House by the Cemetery, Exorcist, Evil Dead, Making Contact and The Beyond.

Summary: Probably the best Fulci movie
Review: This is probably the best Lucio Fulci movie b/c it has decent story, good special effects, and isn't on a Tropical island (ie. Zombie). Also I have seen the leading man in other movies, which is good. Although NO one can surpass George A. Romero and Dario Argento, Fulci does a hell of a job. I recommend this for any Zombie fan!

Summary: What a great movie
Review: I first saw this movie at the theater, at the ripe old age of 14, by the name of "The Gates of Hell". It took a while to find, because of the name change, but I found it, and was still moved by it. This really is a great movie. Not really a zombie movie, per se, but a good movie overall. See it.
