Summary: DONT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY ON THIS.
Review: This has got to be the worst zombie movie in all of movie history. The concept was very promising but the movie fell flat on its face. The acting was horrible and there are many things in the movie which dont add up.The video game clips all throughout the movie are very annoying and the matrix effects are a blatant ripp off. Please dont buy this movie because it is a poor excuse for a horror movie.

Summary: I Must Sing The Praises Of Badness!
Review: Oh, how bad this movie is! Oh, the badness of this movie! And to think, I actually believed that it had potential. I thought the first exposed breast was a 'gimme'. The second, however, was too outrageous. To see the lovely young topless female turn around and face ron howard's crazy ugly little brother and not even manage to flinch was an awe-inspiring moment in wretchedness for me.
This movie is a tragedy. If Rob Zombie would have had this budget, 'House Of 1000 Corpses' would have looked like 'Citizen Kane' compared to this movie. The incongruous 'bullet time' shots that interrupt the fight scenes are, to say the least, confusing. The video game clips seemingly inserted at random serve to only break the monotany provided by the actors.
The only saving grace is that, in the beginning, no one seems to be able to even throw a punch, but by the halfway point, everyone somehow learns kung fu and becomes an expert with the firearm they happen to be holding at the moment. Now that's what we in the business call exposition. For the sequel, maybe they'll learn to make fun of themselves. That would make watching it much easier.
Did I mention that this movie was bad?

Review: "House of the Dead" lacks many things that make a zombie movie great. The action is unlike any zombie movie before and there are hot chicks through out. These are the high points of the movie. The low points however out weigh the high. Bad dialogue even for horror standards, the whole cast suddenly has weapon skills unlike your average person attending a rave. They become experts at heavy artillery in the blink of an eye. Aside from these problems with the film itself the DVD has other issues, don't be fooled by the 6.1 DTS ES, which mean (digital theater sound) and 6.1 is supposed to be better than 5.1 but the sound quality for "House of the Dead' is frankly bad. At times the volume changes from loud to louder for instance. Also the voices are not loud enough at times for the backgrond music. In no way is this zombie film on the level of a George A. Romero (Night.., Dawn.., or Day..) film. There are also useless clips of the Sega game through out. So in short there is some nice action and camera work but it's not enough to make this film recommend worthy.

Summary: Worst movie ever
Review: This has got to be the worst movie that I've ever seen. I didn't even realize that it was an ad for the video game until I saw the so-called rave with a giant Sega logo over it.

This movie made me sick for all the wrong reasons.

Summary: Zombie Movie Lover - Hated This Film!
Review: Where to start on this oh-so-awful movie? Let's start with the incredibly stupid flashes of video game sequences during the best action scenes (WHO the heck thought this was a good idea?). Then let's move on to the absolutely terrible acting. And let's tie it all up with the sheer stupidity. "Hey, I found a book. It's old. Maybe it can help us" is an actual line from this waste of time and money. The film-makers decided to break the mold of the genre by having fast-moving zombies that can leap and jump. Except, of course, for the zombies that get real close to the heroes. Those move real slow, like in Michael Jackson's thriller, to give the heroes time to shoot or reload or run away. Awful, awful, awful.

Summary: What?!! This movie was going to be bad...
Review: When i first saw previews for the movie, it looked pretty stupid.. but to be honest this movie was actually a little better then Resident Evil & better then most zombie films period. Alot of people hated this movie, but that was the same for Resident Evil, at first it seemed pretty stupid because it just starts off like any other horror/slashing movie, i was like oh boy is this going to be stupid, but after getting into like 40min into the movie it got much better, well except for the constant videogame flashes & the wierd perspective on the characters.. other then that its a totally good movie, its original (except for the beginning) & its better then any jason/friday the 13th movie i have seen. It has lots of gore in it & alot of action, at least rent the movie if people want to drive you away from it. If thats not enough they play some cool techno in it. This movie have may gotten bad reviews (probablly more then good) but dont let that scare you away from seeing it.. if u want to see it, see it!! I would give this dvd more stars but it doesnt go past 5 & this movie does NOT have terrible acting in it. I dont care what anyone says, if you want to know what terrible acting is, watch The Return Of The Living Dead 1 & 2.

Summary: This movie is bad beyond any description..
Review: I am a horror movie fan. I even love some really bad horror films that are critically panned. Watching this movie, I actually became angry at the insult to my intelligence I was viewing. Somehow I think the producers think they were making the 4th film in the Romero trilogy, had he produced a 4th zombie film. There is even a reference to this effect in the film. I honestly cannot describe how terribly made this film is.
First of all, the island was deserted when the kids landed on it. Then out of nowhere come hundreds if not thousands of zombies.
Some of the zombies walk as if they have rigor mortis. While others have fantastic super human powers and can jump long distances and even do Matrix like karate moves.
Every now and then it flashes to some arcade zombie game for no reason.
There is one moment of satisfaction in the film, when the annoying character "Liberty" gets eaten by the zombies.
This does not qualify as "so good it is bad" cult film, and should be taken off the shelves and forgotten.
How in the world did the financers for this film think they were investing in a good film, and why in the world would any financer turn over the money for this terrible, terible, terrible so called film? Blech!

Summary: House of the Braindead
Review: I am going to start off by saying that I have never had such a visceral dislike of a movie in my life. I have over 400 movies, over 300 of which are horror films. This movie will never be in that collection. As God is my witness, I would sooner have my eyelids cut off with a razor and salt water poured over my face. It would be less painful than watching this movie for a second time.

I am not going to go into the details about the oh-so-many reasons that I feel this is the worst piece of crap I have ever seen. I will just mention them briefly, since so many other people have already gone into so much detail in their reviews. Let's just give a quick list and then go into why I felt the need to add another bad review.

1. Bad acting
2. Bad plot
3. Too many illogical inconsistencies.
4. Myriad continuity errors.
5. Overuse of Matrix style effects.
6. Use of videogame clips.
7. Obvious use of game-syle shots.
8. The fact they are actually making a sequel.
9.Several people have mentioned gratuitous nudity. Hey, as far as I am concerned, that was the ONLY enjoyable part of this movie.
10. The totally unbelieveable coincidences.

Since there are so many reviews of this piece of cinematic sludge, why yet another? Because there are actually GOOD reviews here that I want people to understand are being written for very misguided reasons. PLEASE don't let yourself be swayed by them into buying this movie! If you HAVE to see & judge the movie for yourself, as I generally do, then please just rent it. That way, once your senses, and intelligence, have been suitably insulted & brutalized, you can run as fast as your feet can take you back to the video store to let them have this steaming compost pile back.

I have seen reviews here touting this movie, saying "Hey, it is based on a video game, so why did you expect more? It's a good movie for it's type!" No, it isn't. NEVER have I seen a movie based on a video game that is so shamefully obvious an attempt to sell more games. The aforementioned actual game clips slipped thoughout the film in no logical fashion, the "game over" shots during the fight seens as the killed characters spins their way into the afterlife, and the incredibly ludicrous "shooting alley" scene in the underground tunnels as the zombies step out one & two at a time to be shot? How cheesy and obvious can you get? Plus the corporate sponsorship of a rave by Sega??? PUH-EEZE!!!! Just because it is based on a videogame does NOT entitle a moviemaker to just haphazardly throw a "film" together. This is a waste of whatever money and time you spend to see it, even if you see it free on cable a few months from now. I've seen better films on people's teeth.

The second reason for this review is the unbelieveably insulting reviews that say these reviews are coming from people who can be "real" horror movie fans or fans of the zombie genre. It enrages me when people think they can be that overbearing and self-righteous. I have seen literally hundreds of horror movies in my life and can generally find SOME reason to recommend them. Some of the worst movies ever made have some very enjoyable moments.Ed Wood Jr.'s "classic" "Plan 9 From Outer Space", generally regarded as the worst film ever made, is so beautifully bad that it makes you howl with laughter. I sat in the theater cursing the 5 bucks I had thrown away. Not one laugh. I have movies from the beautiflly horrifying to films that I love because they ARE so bad. Have you ever seen "The Creaure From the Haunted Sea"? Now's there is a beaut of a movie. A "monster" who looks like a giant turd with eyes wearing rubber gloves with claws attached to them and classic lines such as "It was dusk. I could tell because the sun was going down"!!! Now THAT is a bad movie worth watching. And these reviewers comparing this movie to Romero, Fulci, Raimi or even the classic "Blind Dead" series really would be better off going back & watching those movies to get a firm grip on the reality of what makes a zombie movie good. Even "Shockwave" was better than this in it's worst moments. And those who say that this was intentionally meant to be be bad, so that makes it good? I haven't heard anyone involved with the making of this admit that yet, so I don't buy it. This was no "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes" or "Toxic Avenger". This movie is every bit the same as any Ed Wood movie: the attempt by a director to make a classic horror film and failing badly. At least Ed Wood's flicks are funny.

I have also seen reviews here saying that this is an obvious tribute to some of the directors and movies mentioned above. If that is the case, then I would say that the moviemakers here have no real respect for those movies & directors or they would have made a good movie instead of this celluloid disaster. I would be insulted if I was Romero. Even Fulci's worst movies had more style, class, atmosphere and plot than this pale, sad, imitation of his movies. He has GOT to be spinning in his grave if this is an ode to him.

In conclusion, PLEASE spare yourself the agony of watching this intolerable drek. If you want good zombies, watch ANYTHING other than this. This movie is so bad that even commercials for the DVD make me want tot hrow things at the screen and I have heard rumors there are some states considering using "House of the Dead" as capital punishment.

Summary: Absolute garbage
Review: To think in 2003 they can make a zombie movie this awful. This film scrapes the bottom of the barrel for any originality at all. Yes it is based on a video game which can only mean one thing, advertisement for the game itself. In Mortal Kombat a loose plot was centralized around getting as many characters onto the screen whether they fit into the story or not. However House of the Dead takes this ine step lower.

As you watch the movie, inserted into the fight scenes are 'actual' scenes from the game! That's right folks, whoever came up with this, thought it would be wonderful to watch the video game pixels as you watched the movie. I coudldn't believe they actually did this. They took an otherwise bad movie and melted the cheese all over it.

Second we also have to endure a super long extended fight scene with not only the video game scenes but with second rate and very overused 'Matrix' stunts. They are terrible. Maybe the shot spreading out from the shotgun was a good idea, but it was executed horribly.

The characters are as thin as paper and as wooden as Grandma's breakfast table. To top it all off we even have Ron Howard's little brother playing the first mate of the ship.

For the love of God, rent this movie for two bucks and torture yourself before you spend twenty dollars to buy it. You couldn't even sell this on eBay for a penny. It's the worst thing I've sene in years.

Summary: Awful.
Review: I can't beat about the bush, House of The Dead is terrible, you only have to look at all the negative reviews that already exist to realise how bad it is. Why on earth this film was "based" on the Sega game is beyond me, it bears no relation to the plot of that game at all. I have played House of the Dead and the action in the game is far better directed and presented than this movie. Basically, a bunch of teens arrive on an island where a music festival is taking place, only to find everyone dead and the place overrun with zombies. Thats it. There's no acting or character development to speak of, just a lot of fighting with cheap looking zombies. Some of the girls take their tops off. The teens then come across a stash of weapons and instantly transform into action heros with superhuman gun skills, after which a 45 minute gun battle against the undead ensues, all accompanied by screeching thrash music. The effects are cheap and unimpressive, and the logical flaws littering the movie will make you want to throw things at the screen. I don't mind a lack of realism if the movie has a tongue in cheek atmosphere, but there's no hint of a sense of humour here. If you are still awake by the end, you will get to see the explanation and twist (gasp!) ending, but I doubt that you will even care by this time.
The only bits I enjoyed of the whole movie were the screen wipes which flashed actual footage from the game on screen (!). I just wish I had been able to use a lightgun for this movie so that i could have blasted the whole mess out of existance.
Avoid at all costs.
