Summary: A dark piece of eye-candy
Review: "Heavenly Creatures" is a very beautiful, often very funny, but ultimately very sad movie. Peter Jackson does a marvelous job directing it, and Kate Winslet and Melanie Lynskey (in their film debuts) give amazing portrayals of Juliet Hulme and Pauline Parker. This is one of my very favourite films of all time, and one that I have made many friends sit through. (I also made my mother sit through it, and although she liked it, it was probably not the best film for a daughter to make her mom watch.) Now,Peter Jackson's helming "Lord of the Rings" and Kate Winslet has had "Titanic" and 2 Oscar nom.'s... let's see Melanie Lynskey star in a big film!

Summary: Mesmerizing is the word
Review: I'm so blown away by it I'm not sure where to begin. It's possibly the most complex film I've ever seen - layers upon layers of meaning, and yet the film doesn't feel 'heavy' at all. Disturbing, but as others have already stated, utterly truthful. You get sucked in and can't get out, it will be on your brain for days.

Summary: A truly divine tragedy
Review: Having never previously even heard of "Heavenly Creatures", I sat down to watch this seemingly dull film at a late hour on TV. At first I was barely even paying attention, merely looking at, and not observing, half-heartedly considering retiring to bed. As the plot unfolded, however, and the stunningly absorbing acting began to penetrate my mind, I suddenly began to sit up, and take notice. The portrayals of the two girls were almost frighteningly realistic, and with every scene change, I became more and more involved with the sinister story of the tragic "heroines". Somehow, you always knew the ending would not be happy, or perfectly tied up, but it was impossible to say what would happen next until the moment had swept by, the drama completely addictive to the viewer. This was one of the few films so beautifully and frighteningly tragic, I cried my eyes out at the end. Forget "Titanic", this was Kate Winslet's finest hour.

Summary: Exhausting!
Review: This movie was brilliant, and tormenting. I recommend it to anyone who is capable of being honest with themselves. Heavenly Creatures is unforgettable. It's raw honesty is embodied in the girls' careless and destructive obsession with what fulfills them. I've never seen any other film that dehumanizes it's secondary characters so effectively. Watch it if you are feeling mentally stable enough...

Summary: wonderfully done, and disturbing
Review: If you like twisted romances this is the movie for you. The actors/tresses are wonderfull. It does have an end that is disturbing and will leave you speechless through the credits. I do not recommend it for the weak at heart.

Summary: awful, unsettling, unnerving, BUT SO TRUE!!!
Review: I was absolutely horrified by this film. It had me totally absorbed in the story right from the start, both characters were acted out so realistically, that I was wholly fascinated and engrossed in them. Their friendship was of a heartbreaking nature, it rang so true in my soul that it almost made me cry. Doesn't everyone look for a soulmate like that? And does not everyone at that age long for a life, much more exciting than the one you actually live? The portrayal of two young girls trying to find their own identity in their love for each other being obstructed in this attempt by parents and society, was utterly unsettling! The film got darker and darker, and more and more eerie, I had goosebumps all over and at times I really forgot to breathe. The ending was so utterly awful, the murder made me sick to my stomach, but it was at the same time still so...understandable/logical...makes you almost afraid of what human nature is capable of, when it's drawn into a corner...

Summary: strange that most fans of this film have not seen Bad Taste
Review: this was very surprising to me that gore master peter jackson, the man who did Dead Alive, the bloodiest film on earth, made this movie. this is a excellent film. i also recommend peter jackson's other great films, Bad Taste, Dead Alive, Meet The Feebles, Forgotton Silver. this is a good movie, surprised the hell out of me.

Summary: A wonderful movie about a time of misunderstanding.
Review: From the first scene to the last scroll of words the lives of two young teenagers captivate and mezmerizing you, gluing to your seat. Living in a period of time where acceptance is next to godliness you hope that the generational gap will transcend into the past to help ailing parents cope with the love affair between their daugthers. Kate Winslet proves to be astounding in a lead character with her brazen wit and soft underbelly that repeatedly is given blows by absent parents. Melanie Lynsky also gives a poweful performance as a hostile withdrawn morbid character finding solace not in her mother who is a busy housewife but in her best friend Juliet(Kate Winslet). The two form a friendship that intercepts boundaries not accepted or understood in the 1950's. Homeosexuality was unspoken and considered curable as a mental illness. The two girls reveal in their "maddness" to a state of homicidal nature when their parents attempt to seperate them. As a true story, it is bewildering and saddening to watch two young girls go through adolenscence with no actual grip on reality as we know it. I recommend this wholeheadrtedly as a wonderful yet, sorrowful tale of two girls coming of age.

Summary: Fantastic!
Review: I've never been a huge fan of Ms. Winslet; until I saw this film. It was a Saturday evening and the BBC were showing the "network premiere" of Peter Jackson's film about two girls arrested for a gruesome murder. The two girls were: Juilet Hulme and Pauline Parker; played by Kate Winslet and Melanie Lynskey. The film struck a chord in my seemingly boring life, as I fell in love with their happiness and in the process, felt as though I belonged there in the fourth world with them. The visual-effects were simply amazing; as for the flashbacks of the two girls on the boat scenes were amazing. I laughed; when they laughed; I cried; when they cried and at the end of the film; decided there and then to use my middle name, which is the name; that Pauline took; "Gina". An excellent film, well worth watching again and again!

Summary: Sublime Performances
Review: Peter Jackson's film "Heavenly Creatures" is compulsory viewing for any true Kate Winslet fan. Both Winslet's performance and that of Melanie Lynskey are exceptional, especially considering that this is their first major screen roles. Although the content can be disturbing for younger viewers, I thoroughly recommend it to those who revel in the darker side of people's lives. Coupled with stunning visuals and direction, "Heavenly Creatures" is simply a must see.
