Summary: give me a break!!
Review: this film is terrible!! i don't get why people keep saying it is a good film. i was excited when i got the chance to see it,especially because of all that Oscar nominations and a wonderfull cast. The begginning is exciting and i was really enjoying, but after the character of Stephen Rea meets "jill" it becomes boring, stupid and confusing.I don't get why all this crtical acclaim.

Summary: Very Questionable?
Review: I think 'The Crying Game' is a very good movie. I watched it with question after question running throught my head. Very well acting jobs done by the cast members and very well plotted. I really liked the movie and I have seen it more than once so that I made sure I didn't miss out on any given details. Thanks

Summary: Great Flick
Review: This is one of the best movies I have seen. It seems to get better with each viewing too, so it's definetly worth purchasing (just like any other classic movie).

Unfortunetly, the DVD is pretty low quality and doesn't really add anything to the experience besides a trailer and a widescreen version. The actual video is very poor for a DVD. It looks soft, undetailed, and just plain bad. It's still better than watching it on VHS though.

Maybe there will be a special edition released in the future that has better video and more extras but for now this is a very decent buy.

Summary: Fantastic mingle of plots
Review: What was the "Crying Game" all about? It is hard to say, but one thing is for sure, it was put together in a genius fashion. The viewer is unsure where it all steers at and the famous revelation of Dil's secret is only one point in the story, although it puts a lot of pepper in. Sometimes you will find that certain viewers tend to be disgusted by even a mention of that being possible, but it seems some of them were quite enchanted by the beautiful Dil until then.

In general, the cast is doing a very good job and makes it easy to relate to the characters, what, in a story like that, is probably more difficult than it looks like. The script full of twists is very well written and the production should be applauded for having the courage to kill one of the main actors right after the beginning (which is not to say, killing an actor early on always makes a great movie).

If you are open minded enough for watching an individual look on the Northern Ireland problem mingled with an unusual lovestory, this is a must-see!

Summary: A WINNER!
Review: A black British soldier is taken hostage by IRA terrorists but makes friends with one of the gun men. However after the soldiers death, the gun man goes to London and falls for the mans lover.

A thoroughly excellent and totally compelling film that holds many surprise twists to the plot and keeps that essential element of suspenses throughout the film. Exceptionally good performances from Stephen Rea, Miranda Richardson and also Forrest Whitaker in quite a short cameo but his performance is very effective regardless. The razor sharp scripts also complements the whole film. A real winner! Excellent. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Summary: brutally sensitive
Review: This is not a movie about the IRA. It is not a usual love story either. It is definitely not an action movie. The Crying Game is a little strange, a little lost but still out there, it certainly is the type of movie you'd like to watch if you are bored of the usual Hollywood. It is also a must see for Neil Jordan fans. Some extraordinary performances by Jaye Davidson (wherever she is now!) and Stephen Rea. Definitely touching...

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Inadequate presentation
Review: International customers, please note: this is the version for Puritans, with Jaye Davidson's naughty bits blacked out. As a result, one pivotal scene loses 90% of its punch. Also, on the technical side, there are compression and NTSC artefacts galore, especially in the opening shot. (The film itself rates 5 stars.)

Summary: A genre-breaking original
Review: A genre-defying breath of fresh air. British soldier (Whitaker) is held hostage by IRA terrorists; one of the more empathetic men (Stephen Rea) winds up tracking down Whitaker's girlfriend (Jaye Davidson) and learning a lot about both himself and his former prey. Amazingly adept combination of suspense, drama, gentle comedy and political machinations never seems false or forced.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Good movie, but a poor presentation.
Review: "The movie with the secrets" is a good movie with a terrific cast, but the DVD-edition of the movie is sadly very poor. The images look blocky and compressed and the sound, only presented in DD 2.0-format, lacks punch. There is not any extra material except for the trailer - not even subtitles, which makes it a little difficult to view the movie, as the characters mainly speak Irish. Movie/Sound/Picture/Extra: 3.5/2/2/1

Summary: YOU ARE WARNED! 4 stars with a caveat...
Review: This is an unusual review because I cannot say that I have seen this movie. Well, not in its entirety. It is an incredible movie so tightly acted, moving, and compelling that you are completely drawn into it. But if you are like me, what in this "politically correct" millineum is accused of being a homophobe, appx. two-thirds the way into this movie you will careen out of your home theatre with nausea hoping Pepto will save you. That is all I can tell you except at least you were warned unlike I was.

P.S. My friends still laugh at my reaction! P.S.S. No, I don't care how great this movie is I'm never going to return to finish it. Even the trailer could send me to the porcelain god!
