Summary: why sex?
Review: wilde is a hero of mine but there is so much more to him than gay sex. the film spent far too much time on the bosie thing and not enough on his wit and work and history. i was disappointed.

Summary: Stunning portrayal of Oscar Wilde!
Review: Wilde was an extraordinary film - not to be missed. Stephen Fry's performance as Oscar Wilde is stunning. Jude Law gives a riveting performance as the strikingly handsome Bosie. A cinematic masterpiece sadly overlooked by the Oscars. If you didn't see this beautiful film on the big screen - don't miss the video. It is a keeper. Not easily forgotten.

Summary: Jude Law is absolutely gorgeous!
Review: This is a terrific movie. It has the richness of a literary masterpiece. I like how the story of Wilde's downfall was paralleled with the telling of one of his fairy tales to his children. I feel that I need to see this movie again in order to appreciate all of its metaphors. Bosie Douglas is mesmerizingly alluring, and I liked how hints of Dorian Gray shine through his character. However, I would've liked to see more of Wilde's infamous wit in the movie. He seemed too serious and not racy enough for those Wildean quotables we all know him for.

Summary: This is the film to see is you want to understand the man
Review: behind the myth. This is a gentle retelling of the life and doomed love affair of Wilde. He wakens to himself only to have the new wonders he has found trown in his face and called unnatural. He is imprisoned for what he believes in and for what he stands for. Fry gives a heart wrenching performance as Wilde, and Law is unforgettable as Wildes boy as he states it in the film.

Summary: The Beautiful and Ultimately Tragic Wilde
Review: I saw this movie in London and it couldn't have been any better for me. It is a GREAT introduction to Oscar Wilde if you don't know much about him (as I didn't prior to the film!). The film centers on his relationship with Lord Alfred "Bosie" Douglas, played with wicked delight by the gorgeous Jude Law. Here is what especially struck me about this film: towards the end, when Wilde is in prison, overcome with grief, he laments, "None of my plays will ever be performed in London again." My heart went out to him. As I walked out of the theater in London's West End I saw a huge neon marquee with "OSCAR WILDE'S "AN IDEAL HUSBAND" on it. This made me so happy; I hope Wilde knows that his plays are indeed being performed in London once again.

I would recommend to anyone who enjoys this film the biography on which it is based, "Wilde," by Richard Ellman. It is very long but don't let that put you off; it is FASCINATING and reads very quickly. The film is an excellent supplement but you really get (almost!) the whole story in the book.

Summary: Why wasn't Wilde up for an Oscar?
Review: This movie was, I think, shockingly overlooked come Oscar time. Stephen Fry was unbelievable, as was the rest of the cast. I was so moved by it at the end, and couldn't stop thinking about it. The costumes were great, the screenplay was sublime. Just an unbelievable, touching movie.

Summary: Astounding...
Review: "Wilde" is absolutely amazing. I honestly cannot find the perfect words to describe it...romantic, humorous, seductive...magnificent. As a university student in English literature, and as an admirer of Oscar and his writings, this movie added a new depth and respect to my regard of him.

Summary: Everything I hoped it would be
Review: I was very impressed with this movie. I had to wait forever to get on tape, but it was well worth the wait. Stephen Fry was sublime! He was Oscar Wilde. The best part of the movie for me was Robert Ross. He was portrayed just as I had always imagined him, a kind generous soul who stood by Oscar through everything. The movie itself was beautiful and the soundtrack just seemed to heighten the emotion. I cried for the last ten minutes of the movie I was so moved. I think that if you have any interest in Oscar Wilde you should watch this movie.

Summary: for the wilde fan...
Review: a trikingly accurate, funny, and sad account of oscar's life. oscar's wit shines through the grim atmosphere of his fatal relationship with bosie. stephen fry is an EXCELLENT oscar, the resemblence is unnerving. robbie ross, speranza, and the marquess of queensberry are all portrayed vivdly with great attention to details. jude law's spoiled rotten, vain, vulgar, yet remarkably beautiful bosie is the icing on a very delicious cake. i've been a HUGE fan of oscar wilde since i read the picture of dorian gray in high school, and this movie remains true to oscar, his gentle character, his unmistakable wit, and his tragic life.

Summary: Best movie I've seen
Review: When I saw this movie, I didn't know who Oscar Wilde was. My friend told me who he was when we were watching it. Then I got into it and it broght me to a differnt world like. I love this movie. The cast, the setting and the music was fantastic.
