Summary: Silly Dramedy Hits Close to Home
Review: The hilarious and daring "But I'm a Cheerleader" is silly at first but moves on to become this heavy handed drama. The thing that is so great about it is that it is so true. I went to a church related program to "change" myself and I came out (no punn intended) just like this young girl. Because I went through something like this, it makes this movie much more than a silly dramedy for me.

Review: The first rule of good writing is to not pander to your audience. This films throws that precept out the window in the first five minutes. Just because it is a politically corect satire of intolerenace does not make it a good movie. Lacking wit and imagination, this is something you should really pass over.

Summary: Straight is Great but Gay is Okay
Review: I thought this film was hilarious. Stereotypes in abundance but they made me laugh all the more. Megan was totally clueless thinking that being a cheerleader made her straight. Her realisation was touching starting from "they were kissing" to her rescue attempt at the graduation. Dante Basco's performance as Dolph was pretty good as was Clea DuVall's who played Graham. I wanted so much not to like Megan as she was irritating but I found myself hoping that things would work out for her. This film will leave you thinking that every gay guy is as camp as a row of tents and that every gay girl is mean and moody(with the exception of our cheerleader). As long as you realise it is just a film poking fun at itself you'll be fine. Just except to laugh a lot and enjoy the heart-touching moments.

Review: I saw this on my paid per view and thought no way do I want to see another teen flick, but then I saw the first 5 minutes and decided something was different. A great gay flick for males and females. Funny, silly, irreverent and sensuous. Loved it!

Review: I must admit I had no idea what this movie was about, but I thought the title itself was great and decided to rent it without reading the summary on the back. What a great surprise!! This movie poked fun at homophobia, gay stereo types, and even itself. The lead actress had the BEST confused "WTF?!?!" looks I ever seen! although her real acting was a little weak... Clea DuVall was GREAT (I think I'm in love! *sigh*) and RuPaul was absolutely hilarious! This is a movie you really need to watch more than once... everytime you watch it again, you see hilarious things you missed before, like brillant inside jokes "Raging bulldyke" and take a good look at the iron shadow cut-out things on the men's 'battlefield'. Everyone, gay and straight, will enjoy this movie. Hopefully it will help some close-minded, homophobic people when they see how idiodic they look. and maybe drag queens and butch lesbians will chuckle at the exagerrated versions in this film. Hats off to Jamie Babbit!

Review: "But I'm A Cheerleader" is a rarity in the current era of filmmaking.It is brilliantly hilarious and poignant at the same time.I wish I saw this film in the theaters, but was fortunate to rent it and hopefully soon-buy it. The entire cast is brilliant.Natasha Lyonne(Slums of Beverly Hills) and Clea DuVall(Girl, Interrupted, The Faculty)both give their best performances yet by far.The rest of the cast is genius as well with Cathy Moriarty in her best role since "Raging Bull" and "Soapdish". The kids are all amazing with their moments to shine, among them Melanie Lynskey{"Heavenly Creatures","Ever After","Coyote Ugly"),Joel Michaely("Can't Hardly Wait"-the geek on the roof with the afro and the retainer looking much better and different),Katherine Towne (M.Y.O.B.-the lead girl on that show looking very wild and goth),Eddie Cibrian ("Third Watch"), Doug Spain("Star Maps"),Kip Pardue("Remember the Titans"-the good-looking gay quarterback). Each of these kids really shined and help take this film to great comedic heights. RuPaul and Mink Stole also help to keep this film rolling. It tackles a sensitive subject with great fun and tenderness. Thank you to Jamie Babbitt for directing it and to Roger Ebert for his glowing recommendation so I was able to be aware of and enjoy this gem of a film. Go see it now. I'm going to buy it on video when I can-but a film like this, I can't wait to see again. It might be worth buying a DVD player so I can buy "But I'm A Cheerleader" now.

Summary: Fun, Thoughtful Film of Sexual Preferences
Review: Everyone thinks high school student Megan (Lyonne) is gay. "But I'm a cheerleader!" she keeps insisting, as if membership on the squad provided an iron-clad alibi. This bouncy satire chronicles Megan's slow coming to terms with her true nature after she is packed off by her parents to a prisonlike coed camp dedicated to turning teen sissies into he-men and girls like Megan into perfect housewives. But I'm a Cheerleader sometimes leans too hard on stereotypes in reaching for its laughs, but Lyonne and DuVall, who plays the tomboy Lyonne falls for, give nervy, on-target performances.

Review: Hooray, hooray for but I'm a cheerleader. Jamie Babbit did a wonderful job of tackling the serious issue of being gay and being a teenager. This movie was about coming to terms with your own sexuality and society's view of it. RuPaul gave an exceptional performance as a "reformed" gay man, proving once again that his multifaceted talents have no limit. Natasha Lyonne gives an outstanding performance as a young and somewhat naive girl dealing with her sexuality. Clea Duvall gives a stellar performance (as always) as the rebellious youth to help Natasha's character bring herself out. An altogether hilarious movie that makes it known that sexuality isn't a choice.

Summary: Ridiculous...absurd....hilarious!
Review: This is the most ridiculous film I have ever seen. The absolute absurdity and unbelievability of the entire plot is beyond belief. And you know what? I loved this film. Natasha Lyonne gives a stellar performance as Megan, a high school cheerleader who is sent away in order to rid herself of what her parents see as "unnatural tendencies". While there, she meets Mary, brilliantly played by Cathy Moriarty, the head of the camp who has taken over the task of ingraining heterosexual values into the ditzy high school student. During her stay she comes into contact with a motley group of people trying to go straight. Clea Duvall's portrayal of Graham as a pessimistic and brooding parental disappointment is the perfect foil for the optimistic/goody two shoes Megan and is never overblown or excessive. RuPaul's performance as Mary's assistant and Eddie Cibrian's portrayal as her son Rock, are extremely funny and absurd at the same time. Although this film is a satire on the "ex gay" movement, there are some scenes that are so accurate and true regarding love, attraction and disappontment, that the viewer ends up nodding in agreement. Do yourself a favor and watch this film. It's hilarious!
