Rating: Summary: Nice and Easy Review: I was looking for a simple to use DVD player with progressive scan and 5 disc capability. This player fit the bill and rated rather highly. The manual is very easy to use, almost "idiot proof". The player was able to play all my burned CD's and MP3's with no problem and I hear that it can play some burned DVD's as well. Not bad. The progressive scan has a jaw dropping picture on my High Definition TV, and the sound was fantastic as well. Try the surround sound, and you will feel like you are in the movie theater. I would definitely recommend this product.
Rating: Summary: Good DVD player - NOT a good 5 CD changer Review: Nobody really needs a 5 disc DVD player (most people only watch 1 movie at a time and don't mind switching discs in betwee). The point in having a 5 disk unit is to replace a 5 disc CD player. This unit works fine as a DVD player however it leaves much to be desired as a CD player. The important things to note are the cons from the Amazon review - Slow to change discs, and no direct cd selection from the remote. First: there is no 'shuffle/random/continuous, all discs/one disc' type options as you would find on a 5 disc CD player. You don't seem to be able to stick 5 cd's in and have them play through them all. It will play one disc and stop - or you can program it to play tracks from each CD. Second: Not being able to select a disc directly from the Remote means you have to 'disc skip' through ALL the disks to get to the one you want. This is made all the more painful due to the fact that the player has to load/read and identify each disc before it will skip to the next one -i.e. pressing disc skip 3 times doesn't skip 3 discs. Last: Not only is there no direct access to a disc from the remote - but the player doesn't even respond to the direct access codes for toshiba players that DO have that feature. I.e. It's not just that the remote doesn't have the buttons - the player is not designed to work that way - despite having direct access buttons on the front of the unit. This makes a pretty decent DVD player, but if what you are looking for is something to replace your CD player as well, I'd take a pass on this. Try looking for a DVD changer made by a company that makes good 5 disc CD players.

Rating: Summary: What about the "bookmarks"? Review: This unit is said to have 9 "bookmarks". Can anyone explain this feature and share their experience with it? One of the things I like about VHS is that I can pull a tape out and put it back in and it will start up right where I left. I don't think you can do this with DVD.

Rating: Summary: won't play CD's Review: This unit plays movies but will not play a music CD. It starts to play, jumps and starts over. I have tried many CDs and it isn't just older ones but it treats new ones the same way. Unfortunately, I didn't test a CD while it was in the first three months warranty. I am now trying to get it fixed but can't get a repair scheduled within two weeks at the earliest. I am very unimpressed.

Rating: Summary: I would give it a 10 if I could! Review: This was my first Toshiba product ever. And I am most satisfied with it. I saw that Toshiba was one of the developers of the DVD and it shows with their fine players. This player is excellent. Great video with progressive scanning, incredible sound with very realistic surround sound effect, well laid-out, ergonomically designed remote control, and solid craftsmanship on the player. Probably the best thing about this player and all Toshiba's is their ability to ZOOM on a picture. I have a standard TV and I get really annoyed when DVD's are only made for widescreen. And with my old player I would only see half the screen and get those annoying black lines at the top and bottom of the screen. No more. This player has a zoom that eliminates that problem, and now I get the whole picture. Furthermore, now I can finally see why DVD is so much better than video. Toshiba does not have the name like SONY and Yamaha, but their products are fantastic and a lot less money. This unit is [$$$]less than a comparable SONY (which does not even offer a ZOOM feature) Buy this DVD, it maybe the best player on the market with no exceptions!
