Summary: DVD/Audio CD ok but MP3 playback is bad
Review: Hi,
I just bought this DVD player last week and I was too excited to recieve my package. It didn't take me much time to hook the device to my TV and it was fully functional within 10 minutes. I started testing it with DVD and it ran fine (obviously). Then I switched to Audio CD, but unfortunately, it gave me 'disc error'. I insterted another Audio CD and it ran fine. Then I tested it with MP3 CD and it performed horribly. It stops at every MP3 song. Rarely played 2-3 songs from the list. So then I went through the manual for MP3 guidelines. It has so many limitations that I am totally disappointed by this player. Seriously advise buyers to first check its performance at best buy or circuit city and then decide..

Summary: Not the best choice
Review: I used to be a Toshiba fanatic, but this is the third disappointing Toshiba product I've purchased over the past 3 years. I'm not buying any more.

Overall, this is a good DVD player. It plays DVDs, DVD-R, CD-R, CD-RW, JPEG (pictures), and MP3. However, it will not play MP3s from CD-RW, and there is NO - I repeat, NO - random playback feature for MP3s. Imagine that, folks. Oh, also, you can only put 199 MP3s or JPEGs on a disk; the player simply won't recognize more than that.

So, with 5 disc slots, that's about 1000 songs you can put into this player at once (on MP3), but you cannot play them back in random order. This quite literally defeats the entire purpose of having MP3s to begin with. Don't even bother converting anything to MP3, because you'll never listen to more than a few hours at once, which means that you'll never hear most of your songs unless you manually start playback at random places.

This is simply [wrong].

The remote is typical Toshiba fare, which means it looks as if it were designed and built in North Korea.

Connectivity is good. Optical digital audio out, digital coax out, component video out, and S-video out are all present.

If you never plan to play MP3s, and you have the fingers of an 8-year-old child and don't mind the remote, then this is a very good DVD player. If you have normal fingers and play MP3s, don't even think about it. What a disappointment.

Summary: Beautiful Picture
Review: Really beautiful picture and pretty easy to set up. Lots of nice features. I bought a Monster Cable S-Video cable to go with it, and it makes a great difference. However, I can't get the volume control on my TV to respond, either using the controls on the TV or with the TV remote, during dvd playback. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Summary: Another winner from Toshiba
Review: Great unit for the money. The changer area offers loading of multiple discs even while the unit is playing. It also allows for random play when loaded with 5 CDs..This is nice. The unit has component video outputs so you can totally utilize your televisions picture quality. If you are into Audio/Video, the unit has the following features and all have been flawless thus far for me. DVD-Video, CD/VideoCD/MP3/DVD-R/CD-R and CD-RW.

Summary: Toshiba is getting each time better
Review: Nowadays every DVD player is playing CD, MP3 and all sort of things as well. This is not different, it plays all this formats but it has a 5 disc carousel and a astonishing picture quality.
This means you can go forward or rewind and it shows you a good quality. Its sound is very good also, and a great vantage in this product is to avoid that lousy web of wires.
Also, I have found it best to have 3 CD and 2 DVDs inside of it, because you can listen to very good music and also have the two movies you most love just at the distance of your fingers.
Also the equalizer is another strong point that I have found. It has good ways to balance the sound and when we want to hear a CD or see a good DVD movie, sound is surely one of the most important items. The sound settings are easy to adjust and they sound very good.
At last I would like to state that its design has a very inspired and artistic conception. I looked very well in my apartment and I believe it can also be that so good looking in any other room. I say that because nowadays is a bit difficult to find something to our house with so much possiblities of being ok. Surely, whoever buy this one, won't regret

Summary: works great when bought at store
Review: A friend ordered this online and it did not last long. Though I decided to buy mine at the store and it is still going strong. No problems, good cost, great features! Try buying at store to avoid the shipping of delicate electronics!!! You might do better off this way.

Summary: It works fine, but could be better
Review: This DVD carousel is just OK. It plays DVD's well enough, most of the time (I'll get to that later). But there are flaws in the design:

- Skipping from disk to disk isn't easy. There's a large pause as it stops at each disk, and there's no way to jump directly to a specific disk. You may be thinking, "bid deal," as I did when I read reviews, but it really does get annoying. My 15 year old TEAC CD carousel could complete five "laps" in the time this Toshiba does one.

- Disks can get slightly out of align in their cradle, causing the DVD to return a "NO DISK" error even though it's there. So you have to open the tray and get it back in alignment. Not a huge deal, but minor annoyance. (Compound that with the above annoyance and they add up.)

- I've had DVD's not play on this player. I had assumed they were defective and took them back, at which time the clerk took it and popped it into their $40 DVD player and it worked just fine. There were no issues with the region encoding or anything like that.

But on the positive side, it works fine and plays movies well enough. I use the optical cable for the audio, and it sounds awesome...so it has that going for it...which is nice...

Summary: SD-2805 a bust, class-action suit pending?
Review: I purchased this in June of 2002. It's had its problems over the last year. It finally fell into the same funk others have. The carousel keeps opening and closing on its own. It will not play any dvds or cds. Whata disappointment. It is also very slooooowww to respond when the buttons are pushed. I believe a class-action law suit is pending.

Summary: works great when bought at store
Review: This player is not worthy of even one star.
Yes, the picture is beautiful and the sound is excellent. However, the player worked for only one year before malfuntioning. The door always comes open, no matter what button(s) I push, including 'play,' rendering the machine useless! MP3's disc's occassionally did not play either, even before the complete malfunctioning began. From what I have heard, I am lucky that this player even lasted one full year.
I bought one for my parents about 6 months ago and it is still working - thank God. Due to the poor craftsmanship of Toshiba, I will not buy their products again. HELLO SONY!

Summary: We've really enjoyed it.
Review: We purchased this DVD player in September of 2002 and with a weekly average of 5 uses it still performs very well. It plays all of our CDs very well and plays our DVDs with excellent clarity. I find the functions easy to operate as well. I don't see a need to have a 5-disc DVD player, but for the CDs it is very convenient. We love this DVD/CD player.
