Summary: DEATH IN VENICE, CA
Review: This is all about DEATH IN VENICE, CA. It's the hot picture on the cover. The quotes they use on the box are about it. It's the reason to buy this DVD.

Summary: Eclectic mix of imaginitive gay short films
Review: This is an entertaining collection of 7 short films that range in length from 8 to 30 minutes each. This helps so that you don't have to endure too much of the bad ones - but the good news is only a few of them are bad. Most are very good and offer an electic mix (quirky, humourous, erotic, etc.). Going from the best to the worst - 1) "Death In Venice, CA" - The longest of the seven, this is a touching story of an older man in love with his landlady's gorgeous teenage son (that's him on the box). Part "Lolita" and part "Death In Venice", this is a very well acted and directed story of desire, longing and regrets. 2) "Karen Black Like Me" is a hilarious spin off of the classic tv film "Trilogy of Terror" in which Karen Black is chased around her apartment by a vicious warrior doll. In this parody, a queeny young guy has the same fate not with a doll but a giant dildo! Imaginitive and hilarious, it also features a nice cameo by Anita Gillette as the bitchy mother. 3) "Achilles" is an animated claymation retelling of the myth of Achilles and his lover Petroclus. This one is very well done and surprisingly erotic. 4) "Twilight of the Gods" is a black and white feature depicting the relationship between a Maori native and a wounded European soldier. This one is also very erotic but violent as well. 5) "Boot Camp", a funny little stint involving a gay leather bar crossed with a Hollywood musical, 6) "Dirty Baby Does Fire Island" is a mildy humorous gag involving an animated baby doll subjected to sex and drugs on Fire Island, and 7) "SPF 2000", by far the worst of the lot, is a parody of badly dubbed Italian films. Unfortunately it is neither entertaining or very interesting. Overall, if you are a fan of short films, this one is well worth your time.

Summary: I didn't love it
Review: Well, I live in New York. I attend the film festivals. I go to art cinemas. So I took a chance. In the fewest of words, this simple is nothing you would want to own. Fine, rent it. It's amusing at best. It always amazes me that all the effort, money and time it takes to make one of these shorts and yet you find yourself thinking, "huh?" The best of the collection were the black and white offerings, Boot Camp and Twilight of the Gods. From what I have read, Trevor, which is available separetly, was originally a part of this collection when shown in theaters.
