Summary: No warm-up & No fluidity
Review: I started going to Yoga classes this year and immediately noticed my knee pain disappear during and after running. I was hooked on Yoga from the start and loved the relaxation along with the intense workout.

I bought this DVD for the convenience of doing Yoga at home and to focus on exercises that would improve my running. It is horrible! None of the routines have warm ups, and the DVD doesn't even suggest that you warm up before beginning a workout. It just starts, often in a challenging pose, with few suggestions or alternate poses for those of us that aren't quite at rubber-band level of flexibility. (And I am pretty flexible).

Each of the "unique" routines are just a series of poses shuffled in different order. One pose will be on the floor, the next standing, and then your back on the floor. It's awkward to move around without any kind of transition or flow. Very anti-Yoga.

Finally, the ab workout in the running section has just two poses that really work the abs. The rest are back stretches and relaxation poses that leave your abs begging for something to do!

The only good thing about this DVD is that if you want to work on poses, you certainly will. Just make sure you have a good total body warm-up before diving into Yoga for Athletes, or you'll find yourself to be a sidelined athlete.

I will be on a search for another at-home yoga DVD. What a waste of money.

Summary: Fantastic!
Review: I'm a big fan of the Living Arts series, but this dvd really helped me in my practice. I've seen a signifigant improvement in my understanding of the poses. It can be an intense workout if you do it like you're supposed to and adds a ton of variety. Additionally, if you're short on time, you can pick a quick workout instead of cutting one short.

I have no complaints, but it's worth noting, this program is not heavy on Vinyasa. The moves each stand on their own, instead of flowing from one to the other. Like I said, not a problem, but good to know.

Summary: Great variety for a novice!
Review: I'm a long time athlete but novice yoga practitioner. This DVD gives me enough variety to remain interested and challenged. Great use of DVD random access technology!

Summary: Prefect Supplement for My Running
Review: I've been running ever since I could remember and as I get older stretching only seems to help so much. I started taking yoga on the advice of a friend of mine about a year ago. This DVD was perfect and well addition to my library. What I loved the most was how specifically geared the programs are and the variety you can't beat anywhere else. There were many different programs for runners, tennis players, football, you nameit so it also works good for both male and female athletes. My husband started using the DVD and he has been running for over 10 years, in addition to playing tennis. My hats off to the instructors on this DVD for their precise instruction.

Summary: Innovative YOGA DVD
Review: I've practiced yoga for many years, and have attended many classes. I usually do not like to use tapes or dvd's, because I am not happy with the instructor's style, and grow bored with the predictable routines easily. This dvd is very different from everything I've ever used, in that you can change your routines easily, and the instructor is very informative about the correct way to hold each pose. This is definitely a dvd worth owning, and I have been using it for months now and still enjoy using it greatly.

Summary: Geared Towards Real People
Review: Ive been running for over 10 years , and my hamstrings and knees have taken a beating. I started taking yoga classes on the suggestion of my wife and some folks we meet who talked on the wonders of yoga and relieving stress both on the mental and physical plane. My hamstrings have defintely loosened up and my knees feel much younger after practicing for about 6 mos. I love the programs geared not only to running but also to weight training which I engage in quite frequently also. My upper body has been much more flexible.

Needless to say Id highly recommend this DVD as well as Yoga for Real Men which has a straight forward approach will appeals to the average guy without the whole mumbo jumbo about 8 limbs or not eating meat ect.

Summary: Misleading title
Review: This dvd has many yoga poses. The menu will take you to a specific subset of these poses by choosing a sport and/or body part to work.

The pace is to hold each pose for 10-20 seconds, then switch to the next pose. If you are used to Iyengar classes, this will seem fimilliar -- for others though, it may lack movement and flow. The tone is relaxed and gentle, and the workout is average; nowhere near as challenging as, say Ashtanga yoga. There is decent instruction for each pose.

Overall, I think there are better products out there.

Summary: This DVD is great
Review: This DVD is great, easy to use, the choices on screen are great. Many sports to choose from, and the yoga training/relaxation moves are super...you'll enjoy it.

Summary: Total Waste of Time-Don't Bother
Review: This DVD is nothing more than an encyclopedia of yoga poses. The female narrator uses a monotone voice to explain the pose, the man follows the narration. Then the frame freezes and moves onto the next pose. There is no flow, there is no dance, there is no celebration of Yoga on this DVD. If you want a how-to perform-a-pose guide, that is all this DVD provides. I want my money back. I read the reviews listed on this page before I bought and they must be written by friends of the promoters and not yoga enthusiasts.

Summary: Annoying instructor; Great abs workout
Review: This guy is really hard to watch. I get really annoyed with him. The warm-ups are unbearably slow, so I have to fast-forward thru them. But the ABS workout is amazing. I did it for a month and could see actual muscles on my stomach. It's not easy, but worth it.
