Summary: You will Sweat!
Review: Both the Beginner's and the Fat Burning workout do what it was designed to do - GET YOU SWEATING! But, you'll be doing it in a fun way! It's fun because your dancing and learning something new while working out your body.

FYI: Both routines are based on the more contemporary, upbeat forms of Hula using contemporary Hawaiian pop music. It's not your classical slow-moving hula or your superfast hip shakes (the kind that make your pants fall off), but it's hula nonetheless. Just be prepared to work out your WHOLE body.

I recommend learning the Beginner's Hula Workout first before going into the Fat Burning Workout. Once you learn the steps shown in the Beginner's it will be a lot easier to follow the routine in the Fat Burning. Don't worry, both workouts will get you sweating all over.

I'm only giving this set 4 stars because there are things that I would have liked to seen in this video that were not there - like bonus dance routines of the slower classical style hula, instead of another contemporary routine - if nothing more than pure enjoyment and inspiration. But, that's just me.

This DVD set does exactly what it was created to do - MAKE YOU WORKOUT AND SWEAT while having fun.

I almost forgot to mention one of my favorite reasons why I like this workout set - YOU CAN DO IT BAREFOOTED! Kili does both routines barefooted and I do the same. There isn't much in jumping around (just a couple of hops) that will cause your feet to stress. Not having to put on sneakers to work out is one less excuse and hinderance for working out. Enjoy the videos!

Summary: Awful...don't bother
Review: Cheesy to the max and not truly low-impact (unless you consider hopping and jumping low-impact). You learn a tacky, boring routine rather than any traditional hula...don't waste your money, I wish I could've gotten a refund but since I opened it to use it, was "not returnable" at least not for full purchase price.

Summary: Waste of money and annoying
Review: I bought this series for something extra and fun to add to my workouts but what I got was an annoying dvd that I never use.

The workout is not exactly low impact but it also doesnt get your heartrate up enough to really be effective. The music is bad, the production is bad and the instructor is really annoying.

Skip it.

Summary: Pretty good
Review: I really enjoyed both DVDs. The dances are fun and easy to learn. The "hula for weight loss" dance definitely gets my out-of-shape heart pumping. Kili does a good job of breaking down the dance. The legs to the dance are easy to learn, but the arm movement is a little more advanced.. a good mix.

My only suggestion to Kili is to get her cueing down. She cues at the most random moments. Also, I'd like to get 2 dances for hula for weight loss so that you can alternate the dances.

Summary: Should Have Listened to the Others
Review: I should have listened to the other reviewers and avoided these DVDs -- Truly disappointing.

The routines are not graceful or traditional unless you consider jump-steps and can-can kicks elements of hula.

My score ... "ewww" and "yuk" to both DVDs.

Summary: disappointing
Review: I was disappointed with these dvd's. The info on them doesn't mention that they're far from being traditional hula. The music in the weight loss one isn't bad, but I couldn't stand the song on the beginner dvd. The warm-up was practically nonexistant. When doing this kind of dance, your muscles really need to be much more warmed up than what Kili does. I also thought that she needed to break down the movement more. Even with a dance background, I thought she went much too quickly, so I can only imagine how difficult it would be for someone with no dance experience at all. Unfortunatly, there doesn't seem to be an alternate dvd out yet for someone who wants to learn real hula.

Summary: Where's the hula?
Review: If you are looking for authentic cultural Hawaiian hula, this is NOT the video set for you! It is a good workout, but is lacking in Hawaiian traditions. It is an insult to the sacred dance of the hula. The instructor is 1/2 Western Cowgirl, 1/4 body builder, and 1/4 Kumu Hula. Too much time is spent with the camera-man's nose up her skirt, and some of the "hula" moves are a bit vulgar compared to how they are traditionally done. Better to go with Patricia Lei's "Hula for Health" video if you are looking for graceful, beautiful hula exercise and dance.

Summary: disappointing
Review: In order to do this workout, you must be very coordinated, able to move quickly, and able to look past the distorted variation of hula dancing. You can get a good workout (if you can keep up) but if you're interested in learning hula, this is not the right video. The movement in this video is very fast, rigid, and down right ugly. True traditional hula is a graceful, beautiful expression of mind, body, and spirit that can provide a spiritual and physical workout when performed properly.

Summary: Great workout!
Review: This fitness workout is challenging and fun. If you have never done any hula, you'll be surprise how fun it can be. This workout teaches you some basic hula steps and intensifies the workout with other fitness moves. The background is in beautiful Maui and the instructor is excellant. Hula is much harder than it looks and can give you a great alternative to your everyday workout.
