Summary: Worked well for a year
Review: I bought this unit to replace a VCR in our bedroom. Worked well for just over one year, before the tape loading mechanism failed. The local electronics shop could not fix it, and recommended sending it to the manufacturer for service. Of course, it was out of warranty by six weeks! Never did get it fixed. The good news is that our credit card company had an extended warranty program, that doubled the manufacturers original warranty. They just sent us a check for the full purchase price! Time to shop for something new.

Remote is a bit complicated to use, not very intuitive. Picture and sound quality were okay. Given my experience with this product, I'd be hesitant to buy from them again.

Summary: Good basic Combo -
Review: I just got this yesterday. It is my first DVD player. It was a snap to set up and works just great! I had it up and running in 10 minutes. I was looking for a combo DVD/vcr since my TV only accepts 75 ohm co-ax composite video , I didnt want the hassle and extra expense of adding the RF modulator and switcher, I would have needed, if I purchashed a dedicated DVD player. This unit fits the bill. I had considered the Panasonic 4741 and 4761 but they are (...) more expensive than this unit. Normally, I would never have considered anything from Samsung, but this product was the right features at the right price. I found the instruction manual to be well written and easy to understand. Although I am using the Composite video output, I find the picture quality to be outstanding even with my not- very-good-quality - Phillips-Magnavox 25" color stereo - 'El- cheapo TV'. Audio quality is also very good. Obviously , this unit was NEVER intended to be a Videophile's heart-throb. Ignore the nit-picking Video-tech snobs , this unit was not intended for them.
BUT If you are an average Joe - like me, who just wants to watch a movie without obsessing and getting all twisted up about the 'Spec's, or hasseling a bunch of cables and interface connections, this unit will do the job just fine. Since I haven't had the unit very long, I can't vouch for reliability. A few reviewers seems to have had problems after a couple of weeks , so I will update this review after I have lived with it for a while. For now, I couldn't be happier!! Way to go Samsung!

Summary: Nice Package...
Review: I liked the idea of the two-in-one as I have a ton of videos but starting to get into DVD's. Didn't want all the extra cables and room taken up. Had issues where I couldn't change channels or turn it on and off with the remote. I read other reviews to that extent before I bought mine but it didn't deter me. I believe when that happens I'm in "DVD" mode. When I switch to "VCR" mode all is well. I'm sure that's covered in the manual but who has time for that? LOL! Oh well. I like the 3D simulator and the overall package. Haven't tried to tape anything with it. Hope this helps a little.

Summary: Excellant product...
Review: I purchased the combo three weeks ago and its money well spent. The VCR portion is excellant quality and the DVD works very well. The best thing about the combo is the picture. The picture is fantastic. The design is awesome as well. For those not familiar with Samsung, they make good overall products that are priced right.

Summary: Performed extremely well in both DVD and VCR modes.
Review: I purchased this unit online, and while waiting for it to ship, I suffered "buyers remorse" due to some of the very low rated reviews at this site. Some people complained bitterly about poor performance in either DVD, VCR, or both. I searched for reviews at additional sites, and found a review from someone who sounded competent and knowledgable, That individual stated that he was happy with his unit, and that it was adequate for his needs. That eased my mind, and I awaited the arrival of my unit. I received my V1000 more quickly than I thought I would have, and it was very simple to hook-up. Due to A/V restrictions on my TV, I made the initial mistake of trying to hook-up both the S-video and RCA connections on my TV's same Line In. This doesn't allow tuner or VCR outputs to be used on that Line In, since I guess S-Video interrupts the RCA connection physically. So now using just the RCA connections, I still have what I consider to be excellent video and audio from the TV / Stereo system in V1000's DVD, VCR, or tuner modes. The remote is somewhat difficult to operate, but the well written manual answers all questions effectively. If you can operate a multi-remote for a digital cable box, then you can figure this one out. The key to successful operation of the remote is being sure to hit either the "DVD", "VCR" or "TV" button to control any function on that unit. This sounds simple, but it is easy to NOT PRESS the correct "unit" button, and then you are headed for trouble. You can then mistakenly change settings, such as volume, on the VCR while trying to change the volume on your TV, if you don't press the "TV" button before changing the volume. That might explain why some reviewers said their remote quit operating. My VCR was nine years old, and while it still worked okay, this new unit has many slick features such as auto-track, and time lines based on hours and minutes instead of just a counter. It also has a 400 times rewind speed that slows at tapes end, so that the tape doesn't break or stretch. I am very happy with this unit's operation on both DVD and VCR modes. Reliability is unknown, and this is the first Samsung product that I've owned, so time will tell. As to some folks receiving units DOA, I once received a broken Microtek X6EL scanner. Microtek apologized for the inconvenience, quickly exchanged the unit for me, and the second unit has taken over 8,000 scans in three years, so maybe the second unit for you will be a winner. And, don't forget to operate the remote correctly; maybe the unit is okay and the problem is the "operator"!

Summary: Great idea, poor delivery!
Review: I thought this would be a great deal, and for some video users it is. However, the videophile that I am requires some advanced functions like frame advance and slow motion in reverse as well as forward. The VHS quality was not very good. Slow motion and fast forward were very poor quality. The DVD and VCR both play well as long as all you want to do is watch the movie (or TV show) from beginning to end! Get this, to fast forward in DVD you have to press AND HOLD the FF key. Real hard to get used to.
If you just want to watch videos, not bad, but give me the real stuff!!

Summary: Great Quality DVD and VHS Picture And Sound Reproduction!
Review: I use this exclusively to watch movies, which I may have in either DVD or VHS format (depending on what the rental store has in stock in the film I want to see). So when I went researching last fall for something to hook up to my new 53" Sony projection TV for home movies "living large", many afficiandos recommended this brand and this particular model. So far, I have to agree with their excellent advice, for it has served me well, and renders the movie into excellent resolution and terrific picture and color quality, and the stereo sound is excellent as well. I am not particularly electronics-savvy, so I appreciate its relative simplicity and ease of use. I did have some minor problems initially using the remote, but I think that was self-induced by my silly reluctance to actually spend any time reading the instructions. When all else fails, I did, and the problem was quickly resolved. This is a terrific product, and I really enjoy using it when I am watching films in my new "movie room" at home. Enjoy!

Summary: Nice looking unit, excellent combo
Review: I've owned the Samsung DVD-V1000 for about two weeks and it has worked great, I have mine hooked up to a receiver and the sound is very good, my video tapes/DVD's have never looked better. When I purchased the unit I had a couple questions regarding connections and when I called Samsung customer service the advisor helped me out a lot, it's probably the best customer experience help that I have received on a electronics product, I was very impressed. I haven't had any of the problems with my unit to speak of. I originally purchased an APEX DVD player and had problems with lots of "skips" during action scenes, the Samsung DVD-V1000 plays those scenes with ease. I highly recommend this product, just read you instructions and learn to live with the remote (it's a little confusing at first).

Summary: Samsung DVD-V1000
Review: If this DVD player worked as advertised it would be a great unit and I do like the space savings aspect.

The main problem I have is that the DVD player has difficulty accessing menus on some DVDs. It displays the menus wrong and won't allow selection of some items.

Another annoyance seems to be with the actual decoding of the DVD during playback. Usually during the course of a movie there will be one or more glitches, which amount to a slight pause or skip. Sometimes the video appears scrambled momentarily.

Worst of all, the unit I have seems to hang up or get into a mode where it doesn't respond to any buttons (even the power switch). To correct this problem I have to unplug it from the wall outlet to cycle power. (Really inconvenient!)
