Summary: Great idea
Review: A VCR/DVD player combo is a great idea and most stores are sold out of them. However I have had nothing but problems with my Samsung. The DVD player locks up and won't let me access the menu on some of my DVD's and therefore forced to watch some movies with subtitles and not able to skip chapters. If you want the advice from someone who ownes one, my advice is, if you are going to spend the money up grade. I wish I would have spent the extra money to get a better top of the line model.

Summary: Update to my previous review of Nov.27 2001
Review: After having lived with this unit for about 1/& 1/2 months I would have to say that I am still happy. One thing I have discovered is you must follow the instructions EXACTLY or you will end up with unexpected results. If you start improvising by pushing buttons you THINK are the right ones, I guarantee, you will have problems. After looking over some of the negative reviews for this unit, I found that, in most cases, if I had a similar problem, it was usually because I improvised and pushed something incorrect or out of sequence. I do agree that the remote is confusing to use and difficult to read, but that is not enough of a problem to make me unhappy. Overall the unit has performed well. I have noticed some odd audio 'artifacts on a couple of DVD's but since they always occur at the same point, I assumed it was either the DVD itself or possibly my TV. I believe this unit is still a good solution for people who just want to plug-n-play. If you are a Tech-head or a Videophile, you really aren't interested in this unit anyway...right??

Summary: Very good reasonably priced combo player
Review: After spending some time researching the 3 combo DVD/VCR players I could find, I settled on this one based on userfeedback from several sites. The first one I purchased was a bit of a dud (VCR door didn't open when ejecting a tape), but after exchanging it for a new one, I'm glad I picked it. Overall, it's a good sturdy unit. A bit wider than my original VCR. Initial setup is very easy. Plug the cables into the TV, plug the CATV from the wall into the unit, turn it on and let the autosetup run. The unit goes out and adds all the channels it can find, and even sets the time for you.Video quality is very good. VCR playback looks very nice, and the auto-tracking is a nice feature. Very fast rewind too (a full T-120 in less than 2 minutes). DVD image quality is very good. If you can get S-Video into your TV, go for it. Playback/pause works smoothly, although FF/Rew scan takes some getting used to if you're coming from the VCR world. Only complaint (as with some other reviewers) is the remote. Buttons are kind of small, and takes some getting used to. Labels for a few buttons are pretty small, and it took me about 10 minutes to figure out where the Return button was. There are buttons all over the place, and not all of them are in the usual places you expect them. If you're looking for a new VCR, and want to get into the DVD world without completely obsoleting your video collection, I'd give this one a good looking over.

Summary: For the price, it is well worth it
Review: I am really enjoying my Samsung DVD VCR combo. It has relieved me of the clutter of having separate players. The picture quality for both the DVD and VCR is good, but I would say you HAVE to read and use the manual! Do not just try to figure it out on your own, the manual is easy to use. For example you have to be aware of which player you are using... I clicked "play" and meant to play the VCR but the machine was set on DVD and I could not figure out why the VCR was not playing, till I realized the setting was on DVD. (I am also using the DVD as a CD player and it is adequate, though not great. I am definately going to buy a CD player!)
But for the purpose of basically being able to play DVDs and VCR tapes, and for taping on a VCR this is a very cute and worthwhile investment. I am very very happy with it! And now the price is even lower, so I would most definately recommend it.

Summary: poor quality, cheaply made
Review: I bought this because with a replay box, a satellite receiver and a vcr I was worried about being able to wire yet another box into
my TV which doesn't have infinite inputs. I have only had it a week and we will be returning it.
I have owned VCRs for years and this is the first one I
have had that tapes get stuck in. In addition my children who have been putting tapes into my
Sony VCR for years have a lot of difficulty getting the tape
in here. If they try and insert the tape backwards (I know)
instead of not letting it go in, the tape goes part way in and gets wedged and won't eject. Obviously you shouldn't put a tape in backwards but a unit should
deal with a common error in some way that doesn't require a trip
to the repair shop. Technical support from Samsung was useless. I read all the reviews on Amazon and decided to take a chance.
Now I am sorry that I did. Skip this product which is not cheap and get something better made and more robustly designed

Summary: Nice Xmas gift
Review: I bought this for my husband for xmas this year and we love it! I was a bit concerned after reading the reviews but we are highly pleased! No problems setting up or playing DVDs or VCR. The remote is no problem for us or the kids it isnt bad at all. It has a few more buttons than a regular remote but nothing overwhelming. I highly recommend this DVD player. Ive had no technical difficulties yet and we use it all the time. Great buy and the combo takes up less space than having two electronics. Hope you will find this helpful.

Summary: Real good choice for limited space
Review: I bought this last week and was a little apprehensive after reading some of the reviews. Have no fear--just make sure you read the manual, at least the parts that describe the remote control (it's a little complicated). The unit does what I expected, and the quality seems very good. Only drawback is it has no step-forward function for the DVD. You can skip to the next or previous track, but can't move forward or back in the same track (maybe I didn't read the manual enough). Also, I recommend you search the web for other sources (hint-hint) since it seems to be out-of-stock alot.

Review: I bought this unit because my VCR was about gone. I decided also that it was time that I moved into the DVD era. It was a good decision. Now, I have both in one unit and since I am very limited on space, the Samsung has not disappointed me at all. The connections were a breeze too. Never before did I get a new VCR or whatever set up so quickly. Plus, I have my sound fed into my stereo and there are passages I had never heard from movies that I had seen a million times before. This is a good buy for someone like me who cannot part with the video tapes yet but wants to experiment into the DVD age.

Summary: Not particularily user friendly
Review: I bought this unit from Best Buy. It froze after about two weeks so I returned it for servicing. It came back "nothing wrong with it, consult the manual for instructions as to how to operate it". I still cannot turn it off manually although it does turn off with the remote. It seems slow to program and to respond. The picture is good on both VCR and DVD. It does not take up much space which is its main attraction. Given sufficient space I think it much better to have two units that operate independently of each other.
