Summary: Great Combo!
Review: I was surprised at the negative reviews for this DVD/VCR combo because I've been very pleased with ours.

I found the set-up to be very simple. It plays DVD's very clear. The only time I heard a "whirring" sound was when I had the DVD paused, and it wasn't very loud.

The VCR also works nicely, and I like that you can be recording a Television show while watching a DVD. We've used this feature a few times already. The shows we've recorded were just as clear as when they originally played.

The remote is a little overwhelming at first, but if you take a look at the instructions, it's very easy to understand. Every remote takes some getting used to at first since they're all different.

I'm overall very pleased with this DVD/VCR combo and have recommended it to friends.

Summary: Don't buy this combo
Review: I would suggest buying a different brand combo. This one makes noise when it is not playing but the unit is on. Also, you have to select "Timer Record" on the remote control or your timer will not record. Then it takes you into DVD mode until your program is on. Other models you just have to turn off and the timer will work. Also, the auto tracking is just terrible on this if it is a tape recorded on another vcr. Your have to use manual tracking and it doesn't get the picture right after doing that either. Plus the dvd doesn't always pick up where you left off if you stopped watching the dvd in the middle. Sometimes it starts back at the beginning.

Summary: What are they talking about. this unit is awesome
Review: Just received my unit and it is great. Very easy to operate and the unit looks slick. Very nice addition to the home theater grouping. As far as the other reviews, they make no sense at all. For the money, this is the best unit in the arena.

Summary: Don't buy this combo
Review: My VCR died and the kids needed a new one. I rushed out and bought a VCR at a local shop. Then I did some research online. Found this great deal on this model; and it was DVD & VCR to boot. It does what its job, but not much else - kind of sad in this price range.
Some of my gripes include:
~ When playing a DVD, the chapter does not show on the display.
~ If in DVD mode, and you insert a VCR tape it doesn't switch automatically to VCR mode.
~ The remote has no universal capabilities what so ever. I'd at least like to change the channel, volume, power to the TV with one remote.

Overall, a good model that could be better for the price(...).

Summary: 2nd Try
Review: Received the first product and the dvd door would not open. Product return process was pretty simple and received replacement within a week. So far so good on the second combo. Overall the player seems to be made of mostly cheap materials, thus the price. Hopefully, I will at least get my money's worth out of it.

Summary: badddddd !!
Review: this is a pathetic product from toshiba and a shame that amazon.com ever carried it. its downright shabby in terms of workmanship and quality of finish. You start disliking it from the very first look.

the remote it pretty handy and it does work fine... but it doesnt have the best LCD screens and its tough to see whats going on inside it. Its best to avoid buying combos for the moment and let the technology mature a bit more.

When you are buying one of these you DO want them to work for years... but this piece doesnt seem that it will last for more than a few months... I returned mine and don't repent a bit!!

regards,
Sumit.

Summary: Decent for Price
Review: this is a somewhat decent vcr/dvd combo. the biggest complaint i had with this machine is the playback of the vhs tapes that were recorded from TV. it would always be jumpy, regardless if it was a new tape or not. and the remote is somewhat cumbersome also. takes getting used to....
