Rating: Summary: Must see Review: "Breaking The Surface" is a great movie. It brings gay awarness and awarness of HIV/AIDS out into the open. It has a good flow to it and is very well done.
Rating: Summary: BOOK IS WAY BETTER THAN THE MOVIE! Review: i know what people say when the book is better than the movie. this is the case with this movie. i loved the book, and greg louganis story is a very powerful story, and very touching, but the movie is like a damp, wet rag. the acting is horrible, beyond bad. everyone acts to stiff or overacts. if only greg could have gotten better actors for his touching life
Rating: Summary: This film should have been a blockbuster !! Review: I saw the film for the first time in early 1998 on German television. Before that time I had never heard of Greg Louganis. The film was absolutely fantastic and one year later I imported Greg's book and read the whole story again. I agree that the book truly is better than the movie because you can put so much moire details into a book but the film is absolutely great too.I ordered the video a few months ago and I watched it again. Compared to the book I think they did a very good adaption. Lopez is very good in portraying Greg Louganis and I think it's wonderful he dared to play this role, which truly proves he has outgrown his "Saved by the bell" image. This film is a must-see! I don't underatand how anyone can rate this film with only "one star"?
Rating: Summary: Great movie about a great athlete Review: I think this movie is fantastic, and really helps to understand the psyche of Greg Louganis. All of the actors who portrayed him through various stages of his life were fantastic. At different times through the movie I felt a great degree of empathy for Greg. He is obviously a very feeling individual in search of deep meaningful relationships. It doesn't look like he found those in his life, though. The coldness, indifference and cruelty of his father and his lover were most regretful. His response was very touching. It is unfortunate that Greg contracted AIDS. He is a very worthwhile individual, and is one of the great American athletes, and was a joy to watch in competition. Mario Lopez did a great job of portraying the adult Greg. I knew his work from "Saved by the Bell" which wasn't the most content-rich show. It is good to see that he is reaching beyond those types of roles to some deeper, challenging ones. Congratulations to him for a job well done.
Rating: Summary: Patrick David (Teenage Greg) did a WONDERFUL job in this! Review: I was so impressed by Patrick David who played the teenage Greg in this movie. I am hoping to see him in other things as he is a GREAT screen presence. This movie was a heartbreaking yet triumphant look at Greg Louganis. If you haven't seen it, you really should.
Rating: Summary: Olympic Diver Greg Louganis shares his struggles and pain. Review: This is a powerful movie showing the life of a man that was very much different than most Americans expected. It brings up many issues hardly talked about in today's society, from homosexuality in sports to living with AIDS. I highly recommend this movie to anyone who is a fan of Greg's or just likes a good movie. I guarantee by the end of the movie, any doubts about Greg's character will have vanished.
