Summary: This Wonderful Film Should Have Made AFI'S TOP 100!
Review: What are they guys at AFI thinking? I think the inmates have taken over the asylum there. THE KARATE KID, by John Avildson and Mark Kamen, is probably on my TOP 10 Greatest Films of All Time. And no, Citizen Kane, is not on there. People, please listen up: Don't let ANYONE think for you. No one on this planet is smarter than you. If someone tells you that "Fargo" is a better movie, let them. If they tell you to shut up, then karate kick em or sue em. I don't want to see this generation growing up thinking a lousy, miserable film like 'Fargo' is any better than 'The Karate Kid'. The committee on the AFI are composed of mainly one tribe. This tribe is like 'Big Brother'. They're extremely intolerant of any viewpoints outside of their sphere of thinking and will literally die before being told they're wrong. They're evil, pure and simple. 'The Karate Kid' is a masterpiece and I give kudos to the filmmakers, I give a holler to Frank Price, who greenlit this movie at Colombia, and I give a special thanks to everyone on this message board. REMEMBER THE COURAGE THAT DANIEL SHOWED. Today's Kobra-Kai's come as snakes in sheep's clothing. Be very, very careful of them. AND ALWAYS KEEP YOUR GUARD UP. They're infiltrating every facet of our society, slowly and deliberately. I've never felt such an unhealthy and creepy feeling than when I'm near them. KEEP YOUR FAITH ALIVE AND DON'T GIVE INTO THEM. Summary: Widescreen Please! This is a classic for goodness sakes!
Review: I'm really upset with the people that made the one and only KARATE KID in regular format. You know what I think. They offered it in regular version first so that y'all will buy it thinking there will never be widescreen...THEN they'll spring the widescreen on you when you already own the regular edition. How sneaky they are! Don't buy it just yet...wait till next year they'll have it! They HAVE TO...I'm hoping. All in all I love this movie and its a classic that I enjoy watching over and over. You will too if you haven't seen karate kid...which shouldn't be the case if your a movie lover. Enjoy!

Summary: Fun For All Ages
Review: This is a film that anyone from 5 to 55 can watch. Macchio plays Daniel LaRusso, a teen who moves from the streets of Newark to the sunny streets of Southern California. He encounters fun at first, the beach, ball games, and a girl, but then bullies. He is beat up multiple times by lead bad guy Johnny (William Zabka-Just One of the Guys) and his band of Cobra Kai's. Mr. Miyage played well by Pat Morita comes to Daniel's aid and Daniel begs him to teach him karate. The drama climaxes with a karate tournament where Daniel faces just about all the guys who beat him up earlier in the film. The ending is predictable but the movie is still a lot of fun. When it came out, i was about 8 and it is still fun to watch to this day.

Review: In this movie Manncio plays the part as Daniel Laruso. In the beginning Daniel meets this very attractive girl named Ali(Pat Motina). Also Daniel had a problem with Lawrence Ali's ex-boyfriend and his Kobra-kais. the teacher in this movie is a very strict guy his saying is "First hit, hard hit, and no mercy". This "gang" tries to ruin his life until Maccnio meets up with Miyagi a handy man at his Apartments. When Miyagi saves Daniel from one of their beatings Daniel asks him why he didn't tell him earlier that he knew Karate. Daniel asks him if he could teach him the art of karate. Miyagi teaches Daniel(Manncio) the art of Karate. Daniel learns a very special move called the "Krane". Miyagi teaches him by the method "Wax on Wax off" and "Paint the Fence". In addition to this Miyagi teaches him how to keep his balance, how to punch, and also to kick. Then, the fight is on. In the competition Daniel goes through everybody and then faces Lawrence for the championship. The "Krane" proved to be helpful in this match with Lawrence but Daniel is still sucsessful. Daniel uses Karate against the Lawrence to beat him at his own game. For people who like Karate this would be a very interesting movie. I would give it three thumbs up. (If I had three.)

Summary: Macchio on the Prowl
Review: This is definetly a work of art. This kills Citizen Kane! The story of the struggle between good (Daniel San and Mr. Miagi) vs. evil (the Kobra Kai Dojo) is a classic epic. Though it may seem Daniel is a skinny wuss, that doesn't matter! Do you know why? Karate is from within the heart. And guess what! Daniel has heart!

Review: I was listening to the radio when Bananarama's "Cool Summer" was played and I had an instant flash back to Ralph Macchio riding his bike in front of a schoolbus. I realized that I was deeply missing one of my favorite movies, "The Karate Kid." So that night I watched my DVD and had the best movie experience that I have had in a while. What an incredible film! It is so moving, exciting, and touching. Why is it that when a film truly moves audiences critics immediately say that it is "corny" or "manipulative?" I thought the point of art was to arouse emotions and to teach universal truths. By my definition, this film is pure art. Plus, I have a new found appreciation of Ralph Macchio's portrayal of Daniel. Not many actors can, or are willing, to convey fear as he does. His performance is very brave. A wonderful film for any one who is not too sophisticated to admit that they too yearn for a world where "figting is the last answer to a problem."

Summary: Eternal Coming of Age Story
Review: I caught part of this movie on TV recently & realized I just had to own it. "The Karate Kid" is one of those great coming-of-age stories so missing from today's Hollywood offerings. A clean, honest look at a kid on the outside. In a way few movies ever do it teaches tolerance, respect for people's differences (via an aging Japanese immigrant), respect for one's elders, and - oh yes - young love. Precisely what most people, teenagers especially (but adults emphatically included) could use more of these days. Elizabeth Shue has never been better, and Pat Morita is superb. BUT PLEASE BRING US THE WIDESCREEN ...PLEASE! An interesting footnote: most movies have their errors. In this one it's the part about Mr. Miyagi's Medal of Honor. As recently made the news, Japanese Americans (Miyagi was in the great, Fighting 442nd) were not given Medals of Honor, at least not until June 2000, when 22 were awarded. Mr. Miyagi is just now getting his (yes, I know he's fictional.) Sayonara!

Review: This is a Decent film that I enjoy very much. Too bad for the sequels, they could have done so much more for this movie. You can avoid the Sequels, but see this film.

Summary: I am SOOOO mortified PAN AND SCAN! %$
Review: People dismiss this film because of it's simplicity. Well I'll tell you right now, it isn't a movie about Karate. Daniel overcomes an insurmountable goal, the type of goal you achieve once in your entire life (this is why I disregard the sequels, apologies for fans). The Karate Kid is a truly beautiful piece of Cinema. If you believe the Karate Kid is a bad film then hire out the Avengers, then MK:Annihilation. What I will say is that I am DISGUSTED at the fact that this film is presented in Pan and Scan. I paid full price for a movie I am seeing half of. I wanted Widescreen. Did I get it? In a word, No. So now I have a VHS and DVD which are both Pan and Scan. Will I ever see this film in it's original format? This is a question I leave to you, Columbia. Regards Mas

Summary: The best out of all 3!
Review: I thought the Karate Kid was great! It's alot better than the others. I have the Karate Kid trilogy at home and when I was little I use to watch them all the time. It's one of my favorite movie of the 80's. What I am concerned about is that how come Elizabeth Shue is not in the second and third film?
