Summary: THIS IS EXCELLENT
Review: Karate Kid is by far one of the best films ever produced. The movie starts out with Daniel moving from New Jersey to California with his mom. While trying to fit in at school and win a girls heart (Ali) Daniel learns that he must use karate. He finds a friend in Mr. Myagi while he teaches Daniel the basics of martial arts. Now Daniel must prove that he is truely the best around and nothing can keep him down and also earn some respect from his new peers. THIS MOVIE IS GREAT FOR ANYONE!! You'll love it!

Summary: I want this movie, but...
Review: I think it needs to be said again --- what's a great movie like this doing only available as a chopped up pan&scan version? Especially considering the lower quality sequels are available widescreen?I really want to buy this movie, but I can't justify buying such a poor DVD that doesn't show the entire movie.

Summary: A Classic!
Review: I love it all. The story, the characters, the actors. You have to love the karate kid. I would give it a summary, but I think everyone knows about the karate kid already! If you like martial arts and want some inspiration, you should definitely see this movie! This is great action BEFORE they started using wires for everything. The downside? The sequels ruined it! Don't see the sequels!

Summary: Oh god, this was the movie back in the day
Review: This was the movie me and my brothers would watch all the time. Especially my older brother, he would always rent this movie from the little local video store and would just keep playing it over and over and I would just watch it all the time and enjoy it. Who doesn't know about the HOLY "WAX ON WAX OFF!" that is iconic! But yeah, this movie was it for me back in the day. It's still good. Loved the music and I loved when they played "Cruel Summer" in the movie. It had it all. Recommended.

Review: Great movie. However the dvd transfer is poorly done. Only has dolby surround. And only available in fullscreen. I hope Columbia Pictures releases a dts widescreen version of this great movie.

Summary: Its all about Billy Zabka
Review: I absolutely adore this movie. It's really something when a movie makes people young and old discuss what they think the real meaning of wax-on wax-off means. But I won't go into details. All I have to say is Billy Zabka made the movie what it is. Sure Macchio and Morita were great but what about that blonde punk who plays Daniel's nemesis? His portrayal as the classic bully Johnny Lawrence is EXCELLENT. KK wouldn't have been nearly the same without his classic California punky attitude. Cheers to Zabka.

Summary: Pat really deserved his 'Oscar'!
Review: 'Karate Kid' is not just an entertaining classic for the young at hearts, it's a lesson for a lifetime, this touching, funny and dramatic movie is a portait of a shy newcomer boy, who must face the big bullies from his school in a karate tournament, with help from his master, the scene-stealing Mr. Miyagi, and they become friends of a lifetime.
This is one of the classic feel good movies you will stand up and cheer for.

Summary: Very good flic
Review: Although, it's nearly 20 years old now, I only recently watched The Karate Kid for the first time just a month ago. Although, for obvious reasons it's probably a flic meant more for teenagers than anyone else, it's still pretty decent and has a great story. The scoop is an Italian-America (Macchio) who moves to California and has typical teenage problems finding acceptance -especially with certain groups- in his new school. Being bullied around all the time, he finally resorts to being trained by a simple Japanese man who knows karate, to defend himself. The approach in which he was trained in karate was more interesting than anything else. Movements with the wrists, hands, and arms which are employed in painting and cleaning were the exact karate movements of self defense. From an authentic standpoint, I don't know how much of the movie uses real karate forms that are existent and are taught or if some of it is either improvised or made up, but the story is still pretty unique and interesting, nonetheless. And while I, myself, (I have no martial art OR fighting skills for that matter, whatsoever) could probably take on Ralph Macchio and beat the living snot out of him easily -just by improvising- the movie, still, has a decent message and was enjoyable.

Summary: Stand up and Cheer
Review: Karate Kid is not what you may think it is. The premise of a young fatherless boy trying to survive a completely new environment is how this movie gets its humanity. For anyone who has ever had to move to a new town, be raised by only one parent, or face overwhelming odds, and almost everyone has done at least one of these, this movie can be related to on many levels. Ralph Macchio plays Daniel, a teenager from New Jersey who is forced to move across the country with his mother and start a new life in a foreign place, California. Setting aside the differences between East & West coast alone, there is plenty for him to realize. When faced with bullies that he doesn't understand, he finds a friend in an unlikely place; Mr. Miagi, a Japanese handyman, played by Pat Morita, who's hides many talents. To say Karate Kid is a story about over coming your fear is to say that life is just a thing we do everyday. This movie mixes a friendship, a romance, a coming of age story, gaining self confidence and learning to appreciate that which you may not understand right away. After getting sufficiently beat up by the bullies more than once, Daniel enlists the help of Miagi and soon finds himself training for a tournament. This may seem outrageous, but Miagi knows it is a much safer place and a more controlled environment for Daniel to defend himself and gain respect. Miagi's training techniques are unique to say the least, and just as Daniel begins to question what is going on, he realizes that Migai really does know what he is doing. The story is good and solid and allows sympathy for both sides of the characters. They fill a void for each other, an obvious father/son, mentor/student relationship. The chemistry between them is very solid. Elizabeth Shue is good in her first major role, playing the sweet rich girl who sees Daniel for the person he is and not for his social status. Although sounding clichéd on the surface, this movie is well done and not superficial. The characters are very real, the emotions are deep and the fear of growing up with bullies hits home for many of us. The ending will have you cheering as Daniel moves his way through the tournament to the final climatic ending. Highly recommended and highly entertaining.

Review: This is one of my all-time favorite movies. It's exciting, fun and full of life. A classic for all ages and times!!!
