Review: I bought this DVD a year ago... Movie itself is awesome. But I was disappointed it was regular 4:3 screen format... Then I heard that "The Karate Kid" will be released AGAIN along with "II" and "III". I was really exciting, but only the first movie will be released in "4:3" again??? I don't get it....... "II" and "III" are "Wide Screen", but why the first one is still "4:3" format????? I know a lot of people is waiting "Wide Screen" Edition of "The Karate Kid". Come on! It MUST be a "Wide Screen"!!!!!!!!!

Review: Where is the Wide-Screen format already? I'm waiting and waiting... and along comes the latest releases-- II & III in Wide-Screen! And I in chopped-up 4:3 TV format! What IS the problem? Are the studio execs just thick?

Summary: Where's the widescreen version !
Review: Despite being one of the greatest films of all time this film has one or two flaws. Firstly, this should be shown in widescreen. I was gutted when I bought it and found that it was a pan scan affair. Secondly, Dutch should have won the tournament. Daniel Larusso should just have been one of Dutch's victims on the way to the title. Then in the semi Dutch could have put Bobby 'out of commission'. Kreese wouldn't have even have had to ask Dutch to 'sweep the leg'. The final should have been between Darryl Vidal and Dutch, with Vidal losing his bottle after Dutch gave him a bit of the old 'mad eyes' treatment. As for Larusso, well I think getting to the Quarter Finals before being bashed senseless by Dutch would have made for a respectable and believable effort. These small gripes aside its my all time favourite Chad McQueen film.

Summary: Wow...
Review: ...this movie really stinks! I gave it 5 stars because if I had given it 1 nobody would have read my review. Judo chops and karate kicks are really cool...wait, no they aren't. I think that Ralph Maccio and Pat Morita should have been cast in the opposite roles...Pat Morita (Miyagi)would make a far more convincing karate kid than Maccio does. No amount of make-up can hide the fact that Maccio is actually an 85 year old, arthritic woman...c'mon. The biggest question I had while watching the film though, was why Maccio wanted to know karate in the first place...why not just pack heat? I don't care how good at kicking and chopping you are if someone's shooting at you. Also, after seeing the director's cut (in the deleted scenes on the DVD version) I wonder why they left out the 1/2 hour of Maccio's kidnapping by an alien space ship. It is interesting because it is there that we find out the crucial element of the film: Maccio's real father is an intergalactic space monkey. Its crucial to understanding many of Maccio's motivations...and explains his great fondness for bananas.

Summary: Such a Classic -- in need of Widescreen DVD Presentation
Review: I've heard it said that psychologists have found that certain films can promote certain emotional healings. When I think back on this gem of a film, it certainly brings back a barrage of emotions. It always reminds me of those times when bullies made my school days miserable, and I felt like a weakling, unable to steer my own destiny. In "The Karate Kid" I found a comrade in spirit with Daniel. He fought back only when pressed from all sides, and no other avenue of escape existed. Even when faced with the "no mercy" and "unfair" methods, Daniel San still presses on -- courageous -- determined and encouraged by his mentor to do the honorable thing. The most disappointing aspect of the movie? Only having the pan-and-scan version on the DVD. I'd think that the studios would clamor at the chance to give this film a first-class presentation. Widescreen and Dolby 5.1 would restore the quality of this wonderful film and build on the emotional crush that the film delivers... So that when Daniel faces his adversaries, and the crowd cheers him on, I can FEEL his fear and anxiety. An experience like this is only heightened by the visual and audio impact of Daniel's victory. And in that moment, as I sit immersed in that feeling.. those memories from my own life replay.... and from that comes the reminder, that like Daniel, I've ended up victorious! Man, what a movie. Can't wait to see this film with a decent treatment!

Summary: It's all about how you treat people.
Review: I hadn't watched this film in a number of years but was reminded of it during a business seminar. There are a good number of principles taught during the movie that are useful everyday. Treat people fairly. Control your emotions. Patience is a virtue. You learn something from every situation - you decide whether you learn something good or bad. The lead character not only represents a young man coming of age but also a person traveling through life and learning to deal with the pitfalls and successes. This movie can be enjoyed on a purely entertainment level as the underdog once again is the victor as well as being viewed on an emotional and physcological level of how to handle different situations we face weekly, if not daily. Watch for fun and watch to learn...either way you will finish the movie with a smile.

Summary: The Karate Kid
Review: "Find the balance." This movie was definety in balance. I for one enjoyed every moment of it. The acting is brillent ( I should know because I'm an actor in training). Ralph Macchio (The Outsiders, Up The Acadamy, My Cousion Vinny,Too Much Sun) plays Daniel Larusso, the weakling from New Jersy who wants to learn karate to impress his new girlfriend. At the end however Daniel learns more than just karate. He learns that it is important to have balance in life and that fighting id the last answer to a problem. Like I said before the video is great. it carries and important message and will keep you feeling good all day.

Summary: I like it when they beat him up
Review: This is a great movie from the 80's. The rest of the series is not that great, but that doesn't distract from the quality of the original. This is a great film for kids who are interested in seeing what Karate should mean to them and when it's important to stand up for yourself, more importantly how. The rest of the series is truly horrible. Ralph Machio gets on your nerves after a more than an hour of viewing. To be honest, I only like the rest (especially part 3) when they beat him up.

Summary: An inspirational movie
Review: This is a really great movie about a boy named Daniel who moves from Newark, New Jersey, to a much different atmosphere in Southern California which he didn't like.Thing only got worse when a group of bullies,called the cobra kais, well trained in karate decided to pick on Daniel because he liked the cobra kai leader Johnny Lawrence's(William Zabka)girlfriend.He meets Mr. Miyagi(Pat Morita)who teaches him karate and gets him signed up in a karate tournament.After becoming Ali's(Elizabeth Shue's charcter)boyfriend he fights just about all of the cobra kais until there sensei persuaded Bobby(who was actually a kind hearted character)to take Daniel out of commission.Daniel looked to be done for after he was kicked in the leg by Bobby but Mr. Miyagi did a technique on him so he was able to fight in the final against Johnny.He defeats Johnny in a very inspirational way with the crane technique and wins the title.This is one of my top ten favorite movies of all time.It shows that if you have a big heart and keep trying you will win in the end.Pat Morita gives one of the best performances ever,Ralph Macchio does a great job as Daniel,Elizabeth Shue does a good job,and i think that William Zabka was an excellent villain. Along with one of the best soundtracks of all time this movie is a must see.I recommend it to everyone.

Summary: Terrific drama that touches your heart!!
Review: "The Karate Kid" is wonderfully inspirational movie about a boy who is put in a very difficult situation. That situation is being put in a new school during high school thousands of miles away from all his friends. The situation worsens as he becomes the target of a bully gang at school. Anyone who has gone through being the victim of bullies will love this movie, because it shows a boy overcoming the odds and learning to defend himself with the help of a very unlikely friend. This movie is about so much more than Karate. It's about learning to cope with life when you are delt a horrible hand. It's about learning how to make the most out of what you have and never giving up. I recommend this movie to everyone. I can't see how anyone could finish this movie without a feeling of inspiration. Wonderful!! That's all I can say.
