Summary: Next day thoughts
Review: Being 14 years old, I was glued to the TV set every night during the 1972 Olympic games. I remember well the 5000 meter race and Steve Prefontaine and it was a very exciting race. This movie greatly helps bring clousre to the Prefontaine phenomena by telling the story of how Prefontaine rose to the challenge, faced his competition, propelled himself to the top, and then his ultimate fate.

To measure a movie's success, I take note of my thoughts the following day. Anyone watching "Prefontaine" in 1972 run the 5000 could not help but be inspired. And now in the late 1990's, the movie "Prefontaine" refreshes that inspiration. A very well done dramatization and documentary.

Summary: A great motivational movie.
Review: This movie, along with Without Limits are the best movies of recent years. Steve Prefontaine, the greatest American athlete ever's life is well documented. From his triumph at the U of Oregon, to his defeat in Munich in 1972, to the tragedy of his death in 1975. These movies all but make him a god to runners everywhere.

Summary: PRE! A true legend lives in our memories.

Summary: The Almost Real Prefontaine
Review: The movie was great and better than "Without Limits" because it was more real to what the real Steve Prefontaine was like, but they forgot thing from is life. One thing is that Steve had a sister and how he died was in a car crush like they show but he was reaching down for John Dever tape and was not watching the road, that is how he died.

Summary: Pre-meet psyche-up movie!
Review: While reading many of the other reviews posted, I understood where a few complaints were coming from. I also read the book PRE, and it does mention that his friends did not call him Pre until college. Also, the actual race footage (running in the outside lanes, and finishing close together) would not have occurred. But one must look beyond these impurities, and realize it is the story of one of the most inspirational American runners. I recommend watching this movie before any important event.

Summary: Technicalities
Review: I am a distance runner and I have watched Prefontaine 2 and a half times. I would just like to bring up some incongruencies with the movie and real life, though that often happens in Hollywood. First, how many times have you seen a pack of about 10-15 runners finishing in a span of about 5 seconds in a distance race. Even if you get the elite runners of the world, there is quite a gap between the first and the last runners. If you watch, all the runners are finishing within about this space of time. Second, in the book, Pre, it states that Pre's friends never called him 'Pre' until his college years if I remember correctly, but at the outset of this movie, the kids jumping off the bridge call him 'Pre'. Thirdly, and this one is just for Hollywood's sake, if you are going to film a distance race and give them the space, don't let them run in lanes 6 and 7 when they come across the markers that signifies that the are in those lanes. How many times has a distance runner in the middle of a race run in lane 6? I have never personally witnessed it and I have been running long track distance for 10 years. If you watch this film again, look for it in one of the races, but I can't remember which one. I give this movie 3 stars because I am a distance runnner and just idolize Pre, but technically, I would not recommend it to a runner. The story works well for the non-runner, but if you get to the gory details, the runner knows what is wrong with the movie

Summary: INSPERATION FOR ATHLETES OF ANY AGE.
Review: I vaguely remember the 1972 Olympics when Steve Prefontaine failed to win a metal in the 5000 meters. This movie brings back all those Olympic memories including the terrorist attack. This movie should be an ispiration for all atheletes. My daughter watches this movie for inspiration before she runs in high school cross country and track meets and will probably do the same next year when she runs in college.

Summary: This movie is proof that dreams do come true!
Review: This movie shows great determination to overcome the odds that were stacked against him to chase a dream, especially when people told him it couldn't be done. It shows the power of hard work, determination, and the will to succeed. It makes you re-think about your own life, and what you can do once you put your mind to it.

Review: A must see movie for all PRE fans. "Prefontaine" depicted Pre's life. The movie is like a tribute to the greatest distance runner that ever lived.
