Review: This movie is for people like me. The people who live to shoot pool. This is a true life story for some people and I loved every minute of it. I would recommend it to everyone(except children). It has just everything in it, love, action, etc.. A one of a kind. And I also love the sequel. It was brilliant too.

Review: There is little more to add regarding this terrific film save for a closer look at George C. Scott,s performance. Take a good look and you will see a superbly controlled performance by shyster.low life slime ball Burt Gordon played by Scott. In this film a) fats gets beat b) Ediie loses Piper Laurie..c) Murray Hamilton is a pathetic looser at billiards....yet Scott remains the same through all the proceedings. His final dialogue says it all. .....to Eddie " dont ever step in a big time pool hall"

Review: I don't really have anything to add to the reviews below, but wanted to add my vote since I think this is quite possibly my favorite movie ever. If you haven't seen this movie, do so IMMEDIATELY. Then start doing a list of the all-time greatest movies, and you'll realize that Newman's in about 8 of the top ten!

Review: "Fast" Eddie is a selfish young man. He is hot-headed, bitter, and cynical. He is often drunk, and "hemped-up" (which means STONED ON DOPE). He is also one of the greatest pool players there is. And this by his own immodest judgement! His next stop is the Big Time. He and his backer head east from Oakland to claim the crown held by Minnesota Fats (Jackie Gleason in a stellar performance), and wrest away the Fat Man's money too. Along the way they hustler losers in one-horse towns. When he gets his chance at Fats, he blows it in a scenario the would make Aristophenes sob. Dismissing one friend, and dispatching the other, he finally realizes that it is HE who is the loser. So he goes after Fats again. But this time he has character, ...

Summary: A Mesmirizing Expirience!
Review: This was a terrifically crafted film. I loved Paul Newman's sleek, old-fashioned style and Jackie Gleason's role as a "man of few words." Eddie Felson's (Newman) traveling with George C. Scott, a manager, around the country and holding on to a loose blonde alcoholic (Piper Laurie) is very sensitively displayed to the viewer. The film teaches us that there is nothing more important than staying in one piece and giving up one's life to a pastime (billiards-in this case) isn't worth the while because no matter how good you are at something, there is always someone better. Fabulous watching, with an Oscar-worthy score and cinematography.

Review: The Hustler is one of the classics that everyone who enjoys movies should own. Even with todays movies of exploding cars and fast action, The Hustler wins hands down. As you watch Fast Eddie develop, he goes from a good player and confident man to someone who has no respect for himself. He soon devlops the courage and strength to go on with a little help, but has he sold his soul to be the best? Has a great story line and gives you a peek at an era when pool was an art, a con wasn't about stealing from old ladies, and life was just that ... a game.

Review: My boyfriend is a major pool shark and has gone on about this movie forever. Finally I watched it with him and fell in love. For some reason, a lot of men feel the love theme is boring, but without it, the ending would be extremely inappropriate, and the way it is appeals to more than just pool sharks and Paul Newman fans. Definitely see this movie!

Review: I first saw an advertisement about the movie The Hustler and went to rent it right away. I liked the movie and its overall plot. The characters are great and it gives people the real side of playing money pool. I think that the movie is way too long and the love theme in the movie can be dealt with out. Paul Newman is great!
