Summary: Excellent depiction of real-life faith in deep-South USA
Review: The real-life faith of many Americans, especially of the Charismatic and fundamental Christians was depicted with realism and acceptance, I thought. For a change, fundamental, "regular" people of faith weren't bashed. I thought the crime of Sonny Euliss was one of passion, not premeditation. His wife was just as much the criminal as Sonny. This was well done too. Some might think this makes fundamentalists and Charismatics appear generally stupid and criminal. I would not agree with this position. I think Sonny reacted as many men would, out of pain and passion, not criminal intent. I can't speak for the woman but I did think she had a lesser moral character than Sonny as she and her lover were the instigators of the whole mess. Yet she got off 100%, a grossly unfair happening but realistic. I thought the depiction of the culture was the best feature of the movie. It is for that that I will purchase the video...

Summary: A sheer triumph for Robert Duvall. Hallelujah!!!
Review: Regardless of what some may say in its flaws, this film restored my faith 1000 times more than what it was before I saw the film. I cried and laughed and prayed thanks for Robert Duvall making this picture. I loved it beyond all human comprehension and being a student at a Christian university, scores of fellow students on campus loved it as well. Truly this was the BEST PICTURE of 1997. Sorry Mr. Cameron. "TITANIC" was great, but "THE APOSTLE" touched the human spirit. You just touched the iceberg.

Summary: The Apostle is one of the best movie of the 90's
Review: After watching The Apostle i had a ot more respect for Bobby Duvall. I loved him in the godfather movies and all, but now I know he can carry amovie by himself. This is the kind of movie that surprises the heck out of you. It si slow moving, but very moving at the same time. Farra Fawcett does a fine job as the estranged wife and Billy Bob Thortan gives a great performance as a reformed sinner. Thsi movie shoudl have won best picture and Duvall should have won best piucture. Thank you

Summary: Great performance and a big statement about christianity
Review: Other than the teriffic performances, the most noticeable thing about this film is the underlying theme that, no matter how sordid Sonny's life gets, he always comes back to his faith. That is one of the core teachings in all Christian faiths, grace is always available to those who repent. I could see past the flashy car, talking in tongues, pentacostal, bible thumper and see a complex character who I liked.

Summary: I hope Hollywood took notice
Review: Being a lover of Christ and a lover of movies is sometimes a hard thing to justfy. The Apostle allowed me to get a glimpse of the life of a man who had a burden to show people their need for a relationship with their creator. I was able to see that he had flaws but a heart that wanted to see people "saved". I was able to see a part of the Church that being a midwest evangelical, I had already made up my mind about. I was able to see all this without the bias, prejudice, and offensiveness that usually comes out of Hollywood about "Christianity". Thank you Mr. Duvall.

Summary: Excellent. Duvall at his very best.
Review: Robert Duvall is superb. Nothing I have seen in the last 10 years comes even close to his performance in The Apostle.

Summary: Wonderful
Review: This is by far the best movie I've seen in a long time. The story of a man who obviously has great love for God and also a very personal relationship with him. At the same time Sonny is also very human with very human flaws. The music was "the best"! Robert Duvalls performance was fantastic. I'd love to see more movies like this. {Here is one I'm not ashamed to have my grandchildren watch}

Summary: A Film That Finally Gets Christianity Right!
Review: We've all heard and seen films that portray Christians (especially from the South) as villans, fools, bigots, and zealots. At last, from legendary actory Robert Duvall, comes a film that is so riveting and poignant and full of love that it is, quite simply, astonishing. Duvall's Apostle E.F. is no saintly, sinless caricature. He is a man who has heard God from an early age, but is subject to the same vices that plague the rest of us. His struggle with and utter dependence on the Lord will move you. His dedication to rebuilding an old church in Bayou country into a multi-racial love fest is sheer poetry. His fire in preaching the love and forgiveness of Christ, when we know he needs it every bit as much as we do, leaves an indelible mark on us. Even prison does not lift Apostle's need to preach. I've rarely seen a film that is so personal, so touching, and so real. A must-see for Christians and non-Christians. Forget Good Will Hunting and LA Confidential. The Apostle is a real movie, and uplifting experience. Enjoy!!

Summary: The best acting I've ever seen
Review: This film has as its subject religious themes that are not very appealing to most people. The story without Duvall would be much less. But what a job he does! He is the character. A rare performance that should be seen.
