Rating: Summary: the matrix Review: wow.a film not for the paranoid! a fun, entertaining film that makes you think!and ask "What if......". A sort of Alien meets Men in Black film. I do think that Mr Reeves was a poor choice for the lead as he seem to always act in the style of "Bill&Ted" and runs as if his pants are too tight! A must for anyones DVD collection
Rating: Summary: Unforgettable portrayal Review: A truly remarkable film and exceptional performances by all. This film had me believing in life, miracles, and unconditional love. I saw this movie several times and I felt compelled to finally purchase it. Each Easter season I watch this and I remember their is a higher power who loves us so much and I feel truly blessed.
Rating: Summary: Jesus of Nazareth, a Life experience Review: For many years I've watched this video, and each time I do itspeaks to me in a different way. There's truth, there's faith (forthose who dare to believe in something, these days) and if you're fortunate enough, it might help you see life in a different light. Filmed in all the historical locations, some might say this and that for the kind of acting but never forget that none of the actors accepted payment for making this movie. That alone lets you understand the kind of atmosphere it revolves in. In my opinion, this is a very good account of the life of Jesus, and a very good movie. Of course, there can be other ways (and there are) to aproach the subject, as with any historical character. But none with such passion. Un-missable, believer or not. As I write these lines, I'm jumping with joy that it has been released in DVD format. I don't expect "excelent image quality, Excelent sound", etc. I just wont to be able to see this wonderfull movie over and over again. Each time a new experience. Let yourseslf be touched, moved by it. I know I was.
Rating: Summary: An excellent rendering of Christ on film Review: Although we will never know what Christ was really like, Zeffirelli's rendering of a strong, yet compassionate Christ is the best I have seen on film. This is fitting since Zeffirelli was reawakened to the faith after an accident which left him near death, terribly disfiguring his once very handsome face. He returned to his Catholic faith and made this movie (he is even a staunch follower of the newly beautified Padre Pio). As a movie on Christ, "Jesus of Nazareth" is unsurpassed. No disbeliever could have made the same movie, and the director's personal faith in Christ exudes in every scene. Critically, this movie is nearly flawless, and the acting is superb. I can't recommend it highly enough.
Rating: Summary: The best telling of the Greatest Story Ever Told!l Review: This video set really made the New Testament come alive for me. Very vivid, loving portrayal of Jesus and His times. Makes the story of the New Testament very moving and easy to understand some of the politics of Jesus' time. A beautiful, well made film. You must own it at this price, too.
Rating: Summary: Jesus of Nazareth Review: Very good movie. Some mistakes in film such as baptism, nailing on hand, and not using a cross.
Rating: Summary: Review of Jesus Of Nazareth Review: Jesus of Nazareth was a really good movie which I thought Robert Powell captures the biblical Jesus well. It was disapointing that a few miracles Jesus performed in the Bible wasn't shown in the movie (ie. Walking on water, being seen with Moses and Elijah, etc..) A few other things in the movie weren't Biblical like Joseph dying and Mary Magdalene being a prostitute. It's clear in the Bible that Mary Magdalene was the one who was possesed by multiple demons until Jesus exorcised them from her. It also lacked the exorcisms He did that was written in the Bible. At the end when Jesus died on the cross, it wasn't dramatic enough because it lacked the earthquake and the temple curtains being torn in two that made even a Roman guard confess that He is the Son of God. It also didn't show the ascension to heaven which is also important. Although it lacks quite a few things, it is still a good movie because of the powerful performances especially of that of Jesus, John the Baptist, and the apostle Peter. This movie should not be a basis for Biblical study, but it might just lead someone to Christ.
Rating: Summary: Heart-wrenching and moving--this movie restored my faith Review: I cry every time I watch it. This presentation is one of the most thorough depictions of Christ that I've seen. The acting was certainly passionate, and the music was powerful. Really a good instrument, along with the Bible, to introduce kids to our Lord and Savior.
Rating: Summary: The Best Review: This is one video that no home or family should be without. If you are a true believer, you must own this video. R. Powell gave us an explosive account of the life and times of Jesus from infant to Adult and his last days on earth. Director Zeffirelli, truly must have an insight and a spiritual link with God. When I first saw this movie, not only was I filled and aura of peace, but to imagine and see what our lord Jesus went thru on earth was more than I could bear. I own the first vhs of Jesus of Nazareth, and each time I watch it I can never seem to withhold my tears. This movie is a must see for all family members on special days such as Easter and the anytime the need to understand and know the life and times of Jesus. O. Hussey also gave a heartstopping performance and I think in all fairness the whole cast deserves an award of somekind. When I watch this film I feel that Jesus is also there watching with me.
Rating: Summary: Great TV miniseries, disappointing DVD transfer! Review: This great TV miniseries directed by Franco Zeffirelli is one of the best, if not the best, dramatic renditions of Jesus Christ life. The performances are excellent. Often moving, this sensitive retelling is highly recommended. Its good to have the 6 hr, 20 min tele-film availble on a 2 DVD set. However the DVD transfer itself is very disappointing. Often resembling poor VHS video quality, the images are blurry, with washed out colors. Also, the images are inconsistent and marred by markings and streaks. There are no extras to speak of (an indepth interview with Zeffirelli and some of the cast members would have been wonderful). This DVD deserves a permenant place in your library for its great content. But be forwarned, the quality one would expect from a DVD transfer is greatly lacking. Perhaps given the age of the material(it first aired over 23 years ago)and the nature of its "TV past", we may never get a quality release of this program.
