Rating: Summary: Best Jesus movie, but still incomplete. Review: I don't think that until someone makes a movie that's at least 20+ hours long (which will be a long time from now), the complete story of Jesus will never be fully captured in any movie. Jesus Of Nazareth however, is the most extensive and most brilliantly acted and directed telling of the story yet. Robert Powell's work is second-to-none, and the backgrounds and location shooting make for the most authentic scenes ever. Most major stories of Jesus' miracles and teachings were well captured, and even most of the extra plot added that is not mentioned in the Bible made sense as to what could have really been going on behind the scenes.Despite all the praise this movie deserves, there are some things that should have received more recognition. Some of the best stories and miracles of Jesus were not included (calming the waves, turning water into wine, walking on water), and some historically inaccurate tellings made me forget about watching the movie and focus on the error of the director (Nicodemus meeting Jesus during the day and asking about being born again, the nails being driven into Jesus' hands and not his wrists, etc.) Luckily though, despite the length of the movie, most 2-3 hour versions of Jesus include a lot more flaws, so these can be overlooked. In the end, the point of the story coincides with what Jesus' teachings were all about. Love your enemies do good to those who persecute you, and pray for those who spitefully use you. And love your neighbour as you ou would love yourself. No matter how you look at it, you can't deny that Jesus Of Nazareth is the most extensive and most detailed telling of the story of Jesus to date.
Rating: Summary: The Greatest Story to Ever be Told Review: This was the movie that led to my conversion. It was not until I viewed this movie that I realized the connection between the Jewish Passover, the Last Supper, and the Mass said every day on every altar in the Roman Catholic Church. After decades of searching for the truth in all the world-wide religions, I was astounded to find Him right under my very nose - in the Christian religion to which I had been born. I recommend this movie to all those who earnestly search for God.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Acting, True to the Bible Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this adaptation. The acting was superb, and it did not take much, if any, liberties with the story. Buy with confidence.
Rating: Summary: Jesus of Nazareth Review: I personally give my most highest rateing to this most spectacular movie of the real truth of Jesus Christ! I have watched the about a hundred times and I am still not tired of it! Do you have doubts of Jesus Christ? Well watch this 6 hour movie and you will be changed for life! I really do mean life! Plan on crying, have a box of tissues on stand by and definately watch this many times because you will get something new out of it everytime! I have yet to see even one mistake in this movie that is not documented by the Bible!
Rating: Summary: Jesus of Nazareth Review: This is a must see for everyone. Incredible portrait of the life of Jesus. Fairly close to the biblical account. This is not just a Christian movie and is wonderful for the whole family. Very moving, emotional account of the most famous person in history. Robert Powell was fantastic in the role of a lifetime.
Rating: Summary: Teaching aid Review: I'm a retired Theology Professor(B.A., M.R.E. Loyola University) and have used this excellent work as a teaching tool. I've watched it many times, especially during Christmas and Easter seasons...it still brings deep emotional feelings. Very authentic and Biblically correct.
Rating: Summary: Jesus of Nazareth Review: This is the best film version of the life of Christ that has ever been made! Much of the script is taken directly from Scripture; but, unlike the Jesus film - which is taken mostly from Luke's gospel - this film is a chronology of all the gospels. Best of all: it doesn't stop with Jesus' burial. Jesus' resurrection is acknowledged and the film ends when He promises His disciples He'll be with them until the end of the age. Unfortunately, the DVD does nothing more than preserve the look of aged videotape. It needs to be restored. It's also not "complete and uncut" as the packaging states, since the scene showing the head of John the Baptist on a platter is still missing. However, I recommend this DVD. At least the video quality won't get any worse, and it'll take up a heck of a lot less space on your shelf than the 3-tape video.
Rating: Summary: The Definitive Biblical Movie Review: Forget about The Ten Commandments. I saw this epic movie on television when I was 4 years old, and even though my family was not a church-going one, the story held my interest. Through the years, I have become closer to God and I know part of it is because of Jesus of Nazareth. I know that may sound silly, but this version of the life of Jesus makes everything so easy to understand. Many questions I had about the faith itself are demonstrated in such a way that I know it lead me on the path to becoming a believer. Forget about the recent 2000 miniseries and get this one.
Rating: Summary: stunning Review: I remember the very first time i watched jesus of nazareth, i was like 8. and everytime I see this film i end up crying, because it has the realistic feeling to it. i mean first off the acting is true to itself, and the story is pretty much kept true and acurate except for a few bloopers here and there. i have this film on tape and dvd, although i prefer the 2 dvds to 3 tapes but the tapes are more in focus than the dvd, but still all the better. this movie gives a more positive message rather than the traditional films where as jesus seems distant from the people and more a bible guy, this film shows another side of him that makes him seem more like a people person, like a brother even. The one thing i will never forget about this movie, is at the end when the dicpiles are arguing about mary magdelene's story, peter had said that "he has forgiven all of us." but when he says it hes looks straight into the camera and includes the viewer, something you dont see much. you can relate to this movie. even non-christians such as myself will in time come to love this film as much as many have.
Rating: Summary: wonderful movie!!! Review: This movie was great. it was 6 hours long, which is pretty long for a movie..i think the entire 1st hour (His birth) could have been narrowed down. But it was realistic. the part that i did not like was when the wise men came to visit Jesus. It says in the Bible that He was 2 or 3 by the time they got there but in the movie He was still a little baby. oh well. this movie shows just about everything... overall its true to the Bible...execpt the thing bothered me...the child Jesus's acting...and how they made Jesus have blue eyes. Jesus had brown eyes and i know this because He was a jew and did not stick out in any way (in looks) and everyone who lives over there had brown hair and brown eyes. sad parts...happy parts...good movie. if you ever have 6 spare hours...see this movie. or if you know someone who is an un-believer have them see it. :)
