Rating: Summary: Romance was Drastically Overlooked Review: Angela Bassett is my favorite actress. Ruby's Bucket of Blood is entertaining and interesting but too many elements side swap the romance. The romance between Ruby ( Bassett ) and Kevin Anderson ( I can't believe I forgot the character's name ) has great potential but takes the entire movie to get started. Then when it finally gets going the movie is over. The romance didn't build properly. The characters didn't learn enough about one another. There were missing scenes that allowed them to grow. You really need to show that growth when you're doing a romance especially an interracial one. So I was disappointed that we didn't see more Angela and Kevin scenes. I thought the film was supposed to be about Ruby, her husband and being in love with a white man but it turned into jamborees at her club. It's a nice movie to watch for a fun time but the romance element of the film is dead. That's unfortunate because Bassett and Anderson have a lot of chemistry.
Rating: Summary: Ruby's Bucket Of Blood Review: Great Cast ~ Kevin Anderson is just so great as the part of Billy~ This is the first time I've seen Kevin Anderson in any movie ~ And he is to die for Handsome~ I'd of liked to hear him "Sing" more in this film~ Boy can he sing? YES!!!The Great Angela Bassett does a wonderful part as Ruby~ Left by her husband with a 15 y.o. beautiful daughter alone to look after Emerald (the Daughter) and run a Bar "Ruby's Bucket of Blood" in the Louisiana Bayou's in the segregated south early 60's era. The chemistry between Kevin and Angela on screen is "Dynamic"~ Their relationship is just beginning and beautifully so ~ until it is brought to a tragic ending via Billy's crazed wife~ I loved when confronted by Billy's Wife if his feelings for Ruby mattered "he said what passed between the two (Billy and Ruby) did matter". Had things taken a different turn in just a brief moment the Relationship between Ruby and Billy could have been wonderful~ Both starved for love and both finding it together if only for a brief moment in time. If you are looking for the usual "Happy Ending" you won't find it here. I am waiting for the Sound Track to be released which will be a MUST HAVE~ I'd also like to see a lot more of "Kevin Anderson in Film"~ He is just Dynamic~Did I mention to die for Handsome? ? ? Buy this "Film" ~ It is a Great Movie! I love it!!! You won't forget Kevin Anderson after seeing this film~ I promise!!!
Rating: Summary: Plesantly Entertaining Review: I love this movie, it caught me by surprise, I started watching it one afternoon and had to leave, but caught it on again, and this time I stayed to finish the movie, it was pure cajun style. It had spice to it and some french taste that was exotic, a good story line that you could follow without being totally lost, terrific setting in the true sense of what the cajun country setting could be like if you have never been. Angela Bassett and the other characters that sang that down home blues was pretty good, I got my husband to even look at it, and he liked it just as well, I give this movies 5 amazing stars to give it a try.

Rating: Summary: Gets you right from the start Review: I saw this movie rearing it's head on Showtime a lot this month. One Saturday afternoon, I decided to give it a go. Ruby (the underrated Angela Basset) plays Ruby, the proprietress of a juke joint called Ruby's Bucket of Blood (hence the film's title)that she runs with her emotionally distant husband Earl (Brian Stokes Mitchell). He has no real feelings for her, but adores their daughter Emerald (Jurnee Smollett, who burned herself into my brain in "Eve's Bayou"). When Ruby and Earl's friend Johnny brings his friend Billy DuPree (Kevin Anderson, from "Sleeping With the Enemy", and "The Night We Never Met"), a blues singer, Ruby is skeptical. She's never hired a white singer before. After Johnny pleads and cajoles, Ruby agrees. Billy wins fast fans at the joint; and then his emotionally greedy and mentally unbalanced wife turns up. Oh, what a potpourri of trouble! Earl decides to do a runner after watching Ruby and Billy in deep conversation, but it's really just an excuse to leave. Emerald is devastated. Billy sees this as his cue to move in on Ruby, as he is falling in love with her. All the while, his nutty wife waits night after night for him to come home after singing at Ruby's. There's plenty of dysfunction and drama here. One night, Billy's wife Betty has had one too many and decides to hunt him down. The outcome in predictable (pay attention to the contents of Billy's house, and you'll know what I mean), but all and all, this is still an interesting flick with exceptional acting from Basset and Smollett.
Rating: Summary: 2 stars b/c it kept me interested enough to finish watching Review: I thought this movie reeked! Angela, you can do so much better!! Probably the best AA actress today. Anyway, this movie was terrible to me. I couldn't figure out she hooked up w/the white man. What was the point? A lot of loose ends. And why do most movies about interracial relationships have to end w/somebody dying? See it on Showtime or HBO--whichever it is. Don't buy it.

Rating: Summary: The passions beneath the surface. Review: RUBY'S BUCKET OF BLOOD tells the tale of people caught up in a cycle of unhappiness and how they found what they wanted, if only for a little while. Set in the segregated sixties in a bayou town, Angela Bassett and Kevin Anderson star as Ruby, the owner of her own juke joint and married to a man who has distanced himself from her, both emotionally and physically. Her 15-year-old daughter, Emerald, feels she is too good to be a part of her mother's life and the town she stays in. Kevin's Billy Dupree is a talented white blues singer, married to a woman he loves, but is not in love with, due to the guilt they both feel after the death of their son. Glenn Plummer also stars as Johnny, the guitarist of the band that performs their regularly. He is trying to live the life that makes his family happy, while keeping his desire for someone else under wraps. It's these complex relationships that propel the movie along, and Angela Bassett is to be commended for turning in a supurb performance of a woman who wants more out of her life than what she feels she is expected to have and nothing more, even if it's with someone who could get her killed. Recommended for the romantic at heart.

Rating: Summary: Ruby's Bucket of Blood Review: Superb movies. Angela Basset (as always) truly performed. Kevin Anderson, whom I have never heard of nor seen until this movies, was marvelous. Anglea (Ruby)and Kevin Anderson (Billy Duupree), both married, have such this sexual tension between that keeps you holding on to your seat. Set in the 1960s in the Louisans Bayou, Ruby was the ownwer of a night club & Billy was hired to sing for one week. Well, in a weeks time, we get a good look at teh main characters, Ruby, fed up & neglected by her husband, meets Billy, dealing with a ill (always deperssed) wife, Ruby & Billy both are at a dead end with their spouses. The romance & kindess Billy shows Ruby will knock you off your feet & make you believe this is not even a movie. Kevin just took a leap of faith by frequenting & singing in the all black club, falling in love with Ruby & at last, having an affair. Its defnitely a must see movie. Do not want to tell you too much & spoil the true contents of the moive. If you like romance, love, sexual tension than you will love this movie; I will not even reveal the other characters that have their own personal issues. You will lenjoy the ladies will fall in love with Billy Dupree.
