Rating: Summary: Great movie! Review: I don't even remember if this movie was out in wide release but it's a tragedy if it wasn't. I saw the trailer on another movie I rented. Facsinated with the storyline, I rented it a couple of weeks ago. Truly a wonderful movie with beautiful locations, great acting, and an engaging plot. So good in fact, I'm planning on reading the book it's based on soon.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Fantastic! Review: The movie, right from the start, keeps you glued to the telescreen. The gradual mounting of the climax is very well handled by the director.A must-see movie for men.
Rating: Summary: Im Dangerously Obsessed, with Dangerous Beauty: Review: I gave this movie five {5} stars only beacuse there are no higher rating available. Im completely at a loss of words where to begin. Cathy M. She was totaly beautiful in this film. Her playing the lead character of Victoria DeFranco was nothing short of "elequent".Jacqueline Bisset, was eqally convincing as her mother an ex-courtesan as well. The music is astonishing. The costumes, were right with the period. {late 1600's } Why should I be surprized, that the only bad review I've seen here recently was by a guy. This is a romatic of heart movie. To be seen time and time again. I love you Cathy Mc Cormack, and George Fenton for putting together a beautiful music score to match Cathy's grace and charm. Mercie beaucoup..
Rating: Summary: BEST MOVIE EVER Review: Gosh, I am so obsessed with this movie right now. I watch it everyday! I think words could not possibly describe how wonderful this movie was. I think this will especially be a favorite to the ladies. If you enjoyed watching Romeo and Juliet, you will definitely love this. I think it is the most romantic movie I have ever seen, without it being cheesy or sappy. It definitely is a SEXY movie too! What makes it even better is that it is a true story. Almost the entire movie is accurate. Catherine McCormack is my new favorite actress because she did an amazing job playing the transition from an innocent young girl to a seductive courtesan. You must watch this movie! Give it a chance. You will not be disappointed!
Rating: Summary: Worth your time Review: This is my mom's favorite movie, and I can see why. It's a romance that doesn't make you cringe. This is saying a lot from someone who usually can't stand romance films. In the film, we have the love story but the characters are not so simple, nor are their situations. I really got involved in the movie, and am able to watch it over and over again. One thing that confused me was that when I first saw this exact film, it was called "A Destiny of Her Own." On another website it was called "The Honest Courtesan," which is the name of a book about Veronica DeFranco. Whatever you want to call the film, just make sure you watch it!
Rating: Summary: dangerous? not if you have a ton of bad cliches Review: The movie started out okay. Well, actually it didn't. There was the cliche scene where Katherine McCormack's brother yanks the poetry she's writing for Rufus Sewell, waves it above her head, and she tries to get it back. There were other, acceptably cliche scenes, I suppose. Then, thankfully, she becomes a courtesan. Pretty good montages, everything's shot pretty well. And, of course, the T&A didn't hurt. Everything's going good. She gets railed by a lot of dudes. Then the inquisition comes. And it starts to get pretty bad. I started to just not pay attention. I even laughed out loud at a few parts. But that was nothing like the laugh that burst out of me when Oliver FATT turned around in the courtroom and turned out to be the one who would condemn her. I mean come on. That was such a terrible cliched movie trick. I lost all respect for the movie after that. Oh yeah, and of COURSE Katherine McCormack can't just admit to being a witch and then run off with Rufus Sewell and screw happily for the rest of their lives. No, she has to take a "stand" against this evil. Even though, really, there was no preamble to her being so all of a sudden ideological. Freak'n conventions of movies. And all the yelling and screaming in the courtroom and the cheesy speeches made me want to regurgitate. Luckily, somehow, they get her out of the mess and she's not robbed of being "ideological". Because, really, wouldn't we all rather die than have our ideology tarnished? Harumph C,C-
Rating: Summary: DANGEROUS BEAUTY-Perfection Review: The ultimate love story. A true story set in beautiful Venice in the age of Cortisans. A must see, Catherine McCormick is perfect.
Rating: Summary: Is being beautiful dangerous? Review: It was at the end of the age of courtesans in Venice! This is the tale of Veronica Franco. Based on a true story of the legendary courtesan and poet who seduced the highest ranking officians of Venice, the King of France and demanded respect for being who she was. Discovering that she is too poor to wed, she has three choices: become a ladies maid, join a nunnery or become a courtesan. Her mother, a former courtesan, taught her the tricks of the trade - so to speak - and upon learning that she would be given the chance to learn and read and gain an education Veronica learned her lessons - all of them - with relish! It was a delight to watch Catherine McCormack as Veronica, Rufus Sewell was surprisingly charming and the ever-present Oliver Platt even had his moments! When people start dying of the plague and the church starts looking for who to blame - courtesans are targeted. Veronica herself is forced to stand trial. This is a tale of something that goes deeper than simple romance, but rather LOVE. Passion is just the bonus!
Rating: Summary: Dangerous Beauty Review: Absolutely beautiful. I loved this movie, Rufus Sewell was fabulous along with Catherine McCormack. I would highly recommend this film to anyone who appreciates a good romantic. 5 stars.
Rating: Summary: My favorite! Review: I had heard of this movie through a trailer at the movie theater and kept waiting for it to come out. Unfortunately, I never noticed it in the theatre. Once it came out on video, I was in heaven. This is the most romantic movie I have ever seen. I have made sure all my friends have watched it numerous times and the network of fans of this movie has grown through my efforts. I almost wish it would be re-released in the theatre because I love it so much. In fact, I am on my second VHS copy, the first wore out!
