Summary: Dangerous Beauty
Review: A gorgeous movie. It is unfortunate that the uninventive title, I believe, made people bypass the movie when it was in the cinema, thinking that it was just a copycat (remember "Dangerous Liaison"?). By chance I saw it on cable, and was very impressed. I have seen "Shakespeare In Love" several times, and I would rate "Dangerous Beauty" above the former. It has better cinamatic treatment (all the sets, costumes, the Venetian land- and water-scape were stunning), equally riveting story, and even more sensuous. (Now, I am far from an expert, but I think the acting in this movie is just as good as the Oscar-winning "Shakespeare In Love". It moved me, and that's what counts.) Several times during the movie, I found myself agonizing over whether to follow the exciting action or just enjoy the cinamatic scenaries. Obviously, the best thing to do is to buy a copy. I don't have DVD yet, buy I am tempted to go ahead and buy the DVD instead of the VHS because this movie can really justify the better resolution of DVD.

Summary: An Amazing Surprise
Review: Fortunately, I was out of the country when this film was released - so I didn't know that it had done poorly at the box office and with the critics. A friend casually recommended it,and I thought, why not, anything filmed in Venice cannot be a waste of time - and I was totally amazed. What an interesting, compelling, unusual film! What a pity it didn't do better - though to judge from all the rave reviews from amazon viewers it is only because it didn't "fit in" with the usual marketing/ media/hype machines. So while it is not the best film I've ever seen, it certainly has its undeniable qualities, to start with the mesmerizing beauty of the female, and male, leads...

Summary: Romance at it's finest!
Review: Dare to be swept away in a truly romantic setting. Beautifully filmed, Dangerous Beauty awakens the lust and romance in all of us. I am unable to stop thinking of this extraordinary movie as it's characters weave a magic spell from the start. Three cheers to one of the best films in more than a decade and hats off to all!

Summary: Perfect movie
Review: This movie is good as Shakespeare in Love. A lot of poetics and romantic pleasure. The picture and sound is very good. Bad is that nearly nobody know about this beautiful movie. Amazon could give a 100% guarantee if you don't like the movie.

Summary: Review of Dangerous Beauty
Review: The only thing that dissapoints me about this movie is that none of my friends have heard of it. I was enthralled by the setting, the plot, the actors, the costumes. I went into the movie theatre dreading the ensuing 2 hours and i came out rhapsodizing!

Summary: Inspiring, beautiful, well produced and acted - loved it!
Review: I've watched my videotape 3-4 times so far. The poorly chosen title may account for it's not being well known, but the story -- based on real people -- set, costumes, casting, acting, production were also terrific. Oh, the music is lovely, too. I found the heroine very inspiring. I'm puzzled by those who thought this was fluff -- standing up for truth and personal and religious freedom against enormous odds is far from fluff. Catherine McCormack is very talented, and Rufus Sewell is gorgeous to look at! Decent acting, too. Oliver what's his name was terrific. I've seen the movie advertised on cable TV here in Japan under a new title, A Destiny of Her Own (plus a separate Japanese title). Too bad they didn't come up with this or better the first time around.

Summary: Entertaining fluff
Review: The scenery is gorgeous, the sets and clothing lush, and the cinematography superb. Plus, the enigmatic Rufus Sewell as the leading man (and Catherine McCormack is not that bad either). The story, though, is another issue... It starts in a good note, but by the time Rufus leaves for the war in Cyprus, the plot thickens and goes downhill on its weight. It lost my interest. I did enjoy, though, the always reliable Moira Kelly (who should have had more screentime), and was amused by how little we saw of Melina Kanakaredes, Sid of NBC's Providence (I actually had to rewind to her scenes after reading in the credits which character she played!). Harmless fun, with a great cast. Don't expect more than that, though.

Summary: Catherine McCormack is stunning, mesmerizing, and fabulous!
Review: A movie that left me wanting more... and too bad that not one of the movieguides I checked, including Blockbuster, had Catherine McCormack listed under "Actors".... she gave an outstanding performance in this movie, truly compelling, totally believable. I wanted to see every movie set in Venice during that time period!

Summary: "art " house yuppie garbage
Review: Other than making smartass remarks about her betters, notably writer Stephen King to obscure internet movie magazines, Catherine McCormack will remain a minor actress in Eurotrash epics like this.
