Rating: Summary: Still The One Review: This lovely, bittersweet movie knocked my socks off when I saw it back in the day, and the DVD offered me another opportunity to relive the romance. It's not the most well-made movie -- the fact that it got made at all, considering the costs to the independent film maker, is a miracle. But it is peopled with believable, sympathetic characters and it is, for the most part, beautifully acted. The soundtrack is fabulous, and the CD is long overdue. The cinematography artfully features the haunting southwestern landscape, contrasting it with the period-perfect seediness of 1950's Reno. Desert Hearts is a lesbian love story, but also a story about the importance of many types of relationships between women: mother and daughter, friend and confidant. I've seen almost all the lesbian flicks that have been produced over the years, and very few of them have this one's staying power. It offers a deeply romantic and heartfelt view of lesbian love in the old-fashioned Hollywood mold, something we rarely see in the movies. The impeccable use of music is heard in the final scene, as Ella Fitzgerald croons "I Wished On The Moon." I can't imagine any person who has every loved or longed for love, whether they're gay, straight or in between, not being moved by the promise, longing and mystery expressed in that last scene. Desert Hearts has wit, humor, pathos, a fascinating and unusual milieu, compelling leading ladies and delicious secondary roles, great music and scenery, and oh yes, some exceptionally erotic and realistic sex between two beautiful women. What's not to like?
Rating: Summary: love story Review: This movie was the first lesbain movie I truly fell in love with. I felt my self in the movie through each sceen.I would love to have seen the stars go into more detailed sex sceens. But you can still feel the love. It was a very good love story. It would please me to see a part 2 to this movie.
Rating: Summary: A little cliched but OK Review: This was the first movie I ever saw dealing with these themes, so as such, it remained in my mind for a long time. Looking at it now, it seems a little cliched - "prim and proper meets free spirit" kind of thing, but the subject is handled well and Helen Shaver's slow realization of what is happening to her is very believable and quite moving. As for Ms Charbonneau, she is almost a cypher, but let's face it she is there just for Helen Shaver to play off of.
Rating: Summary: HOT LIKE THE DESERT SUN!!! Review: To watch this film is to instantly fall in love with the movie, the characters, and the scenery!!! Helen Shaver will forever be the sexiest professor in the desert. The sex scene is so hot, i think the camera people were sweating and having an orgasim!!! Must see, must own....we need the soundtrack!!!

My partner and I would love to see it - we have been trying for months to try and obtain it. Is there anyone out there who can help us obtain a copy?
Rating: Summary: mesmerized Review: What a beautiful film. i could watch it again and again. Loved the soundtrack, the cinematography, believable (and very attractive) characters and moving love story. Found the love scene very tastefully done and touching, and yes, steamy. i am a married heterosexual woman and i enjoyed this film very much.
