Rating: Summary: One of the Greatest Movies of All Time! Review: Anne of Green Gables is an enchanting story that explores the breath and depth of a time gone by through the eyes of an orphan. Anne literally grows up before our eyes. She faces the trials and triumphs of not only adolecents, but those of an orphan who breaks in (rather clumsily at times) and steals the hearts of the citizens of Avonlea with her whismical ways and vivid imagination. Megan Follows is brillant as Anne! No other actress could have done the role justice. A heartwarming movie that has action, excitment, drama, and romance, but without the usual sex and violence. Anne of Green Gables and the sequel, Anne of Avonlea, are must see family classics!
Rating: Summary: Absolutely worth every second Review: This is one of those movies you can watch over and over and still enjoy every second. The things Anne says and does would make anyone gasp in pure horror, then burst out laughing. It's got twice the wit of sitcoms today, without the need to cover your children's ears. Watch it with friends or family, it's a classic about fumbling through life and growing up.
Rating: Summary: A movie for EVERYONE! Review: I'm a guy and this is one of my favourite films of all time! One of the most endearing pictures of recent years, it is told with sophistication and humour. Outstanding performances by Follows and Dewhurst, and Farnsworth. BUY THIS MOVIE!
Rating: Summary: great adaptation Review: Don't do what i did: watch Anne of Avonlea (just as good as this one) first, then Anne of Green Gables...and then read both books. Maybe try the right order. But just to show how good all of these are, I love both the movies and all of the books. Megan Follows IS Anne. (She just Happens to be an actual perfect lookalike who just Happens to be a great actress) She somehow manages to convincingly look as if she ages several years throughout the movie, difficult even for Hollywood, which, thankfully, this is NOT. They would have ruined this. As it is, this made for tv movie captures the innocence of the books and the simple delight in the world around us. (And, I have to say it, I love that half of the Kids in the Hall are in this movie. Apparently they make up a such significant portion of male Canadian actors that the director had to enlist even them just to keep this purely Canada.)
Rating: Summary: I LOVE IT! Review: I LOVE THIS MOVIE! Some poeple mite think that this is a girl movie, well I'm not a girl. It's one fo the best. Every once and a wile I cry. Get this movie and injoy!
Rating: Summary: Enjoyable, enjoyable, enjoyable! Review: A lovely adaptation of perhaps the best known and best loved children's book of all time, this wonderful mini series chronicles the growing up years, adolescent struggles and blossoming into young womanhood of Anne Shirley, who, along with Little Orphan Annie and Pippi Longstocking, is the most famous red haired, freckle faced, lovable orphan in the world. Endearingly and charmingly wholesome, this movie loses none of the esential ingredients of the story it is based upon, yet has an identity all its own, and because of the excellent script, beautiful scenery and superb acting, is a true rarity because it is faultless in every way. A true family classic that will be enjoyed for generations to come and by those who love to laugh and cry at the same time.
Rating: Summary: Magnificent Review: This is a magnificent, timeless tale of an adventurous, imaginative, bright, and resilient orphan who finds "kindred-spirits" in Matthew and Marilla, who adopt her. There are no words to explain how amazing this story is. It is so charming, and heartwarming. Megan Follows plays Anne so well, you find yourself believing she's the real Anne. I read the book(s) and laughed until I cried. Kevin Sullivan did an excellent job of adapting the story to a mini-series, thankfully available on video. If you loved the book, you will truly love this. It is a wonderful story for the whole family, but if you have a daughter - it is an absolute must.

Rating: Summary: If I could have only one video, this would be it ! Review: I grew up reading the stories about Anne (with an e) Shirley and was absolutely enchanted and enamored of the Sullivan production starring Megan Follows, Colleen Dewhurst, and Richard Farnsworth. Each of these actors perfectly portrays the characters of the orphan red-haired Anne Shirley, aging brother and sister, Muerilla and Mathew. All of the supporting cast artfully, delightfully, and superbly bring the other essential characters to life as well. Anne Shirley is an orphan in Northern Canada on Prince Edward Island who gets shipped from home to home serving households in order to earn her keep. But Anne is a gifted soul who longs for someone to happily listen to her and joyfully love her. Thirteen year old Anne is ecstatic when she learns that she is finally going to have a home where she will not have to raise dozens of children. When she arrives by train, she waits patiently until the extremely shy Mathew comes to fetch her in his horse and buggy. What Anne doesn't know is that Mathew and his sister are expecting a boy who can help with the chores. The always exhuberant Anne is so loquacious and grateful for her new home that Mathew doesn't have the opportunity nor the heart to break the news to the child he comes to adore on the buggy ride back to his home, Green Gables. I watch this video at least once a year. I laugh, cry, and get embarrassed right along with Anne, and I visit my friends on Prince Edward Island, whom I never tire of. A beautifully, innocent film! A masterpiece!
Rating: Summary: Perfect portrayal of the book! Review: We were absolutely delighted when we saw the mini-series on TV. A completely overwhelming reproduction of the book! Megan Follows (Anne Shirley), Colleen Dewhurst (Marilla Cuthbert) and Richard Farnsworth (Matthew Cuthbert) were perfect for the parts, really bringing the characters of the book to life!Films like these are an absolute necessity for our society. Did anyone realize that some rehabs actually use films like these to build an emotional cushion during the months before the patients are prepared to be confronted with the real world again? Our hearts need nourishment, too. And these are the kinds of films to feed our souls with, showing us what life could and should be like. But, as I've already stated before, maybe I'm just a hopeless romantic. Just the kind such films are suited for. I love it!
