Rating: Summary: Watch only this and Anne of Avonlea-skip the new 3rd segment Review: This original video "Anne of Green Gables" and its sequel, "Anne of Avonlea" faithfully capture the delightful and inspiring stories of the series of "Anne of Green Gables" books. The videos are favorites of me and my daughters -- perfect for rainy weekends or days they stay home from school due to illness. I am saddened to see that the original is out-of-print and encourage the studio to re-release it. (Perhaps if demand is high enough, they will!) Unfortunately, we recently tuned into the new PBS production of "Anne: The Continuing Tales." This was a monumental disappointment that I can only liken to "The Godfather Part III." Although the Anne stories written by Lucy Maud Montgomery continue through her marriage, career and children, the producers of this movie discarded any relationship to the charming original stories or the memorable original characters. They merely borrowed the names of the characters and then created a highly unbelievable scenario that bore no hint of continuity between the fiercely independent, fiery, patriotic, and highly moral Anne, her bosom buddy Diana, or her sweetheart Gilbert. Throw in a baby who cries throughout the entire video, some unbelievable WWI scenarios and politically correct but anachronistic "anti-war" sentiments, and you end up with a despicable mess. If you loved the original books or videos, STAY FAR AWAY from "The Continuing Story" so that you don't taint your fond memories. And if you haven't already seen the videos of "Anne of Green Gables" or "Anne of Avonlea," then do whatever it takes to see them as soon as possible. (Don't wait for a rainy weekend!)
Rating: Summary: A very awsome movie! Review: The movie is awsome, but I would like to have the continuing story too!?
Rating: Summary: the greatest movie in the history of the world Review: i have recently just discovered that Anne of Green Gables was made into a movie. and right after i had finished watching it, that was when i had decited that AOGG is my ALL TIME FAVORITE movie. after watching anne of green gables, i watched anne of green gables-the sequel.that made me LOVE it even more.then i watched anne of avonlea, and i had then decited that anne would be in my life forever!i'm a hopeless romantic, so i enjoy the third sequel the most.as early as the first movie, i absolutely fell in love with gilbert blythe.he is very handsome and a heartfilled romantic(at least after he grows up a little bit).through the first two movies, my heart absolutely aches whenever she is so rude to gil.when they meet up in boston an gil tells anne that he is engaged to christine, my heart breaks along with hers.and it's definately a relief when she turns down morgan harris' proposal (i wouln't be able to stand them together).she finally returns to avonlea and discovers gil is sick. "...we called off the wedding...the only one i could ever love is you."gil says to anne while sick in bed. anne of avonlea along with anne of green gables is such a heartwarming and inspirational story. and if your anything of a romantic, you will fall hopelessly in love with anne of green gables the continuing story. it is the greatest example of the lengths people will go to for true love.
Rating: Summary: "Anne of Green Gables" is wonderful, however . . . Review: I am really disappointed that the quality and the authenticity of the "Anne of Green Gables" and the "Anne of Avonlea" films have been sacrificed in the recent "Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story." Yes, viewers want to know what happened next to Anne and Gilbert. So did the author, which is why she wrote four sequels! Anne and Gilbert marry, have a family, and then see their children fight in World War I. While that may not be as exciting as sending Anne behind enemy lines, it was enough for fans of the series. This version seemed to have been created only to bring in revenue from subsequent video sales. By completely fabricating his own history while justifying it as being true to "the spirit of Anne," Kevin Sullivan & Co. does a disservice to L.M. Motgomery, to those who love her books and characters, and to Anne herself.
Rating: Summary: Great film for a rainy day Review: I have fond memories of watching this film on PBS as a young girl. Standouts in the impeccable cast are Colleen Dewhurst who really makes the character of Marilla her own, and Richard Farnsworth as her brother. The scenes of Prince Edward Island are gorgeous and makes me want to visit! There is really never a boring moment, many touching scenes, but I would say this is definitely a chick flick. Extremely faithful to the book.
Rating: Summary: Kindered Spirits Review: I was introduced to Anne of Green Gables when I was 18 years old by my Mother. She found a book that contained Anne of Green Gables, Anne of Avonlea, Anne of the Island and Anne of Windy Poplar. I was entranced the moment I read the very first paragraph. Anne's character capitvated me from the very beginnging, her scope of immagination, her way of looking at things in the most positive light even though her life of around her was at times very dismal. And when she meet Gilbert Blythe I just knew she found that one true love. 13 years later her story is still my most favorite of all the children's books I have read through out my life. I have to admit that at the end of the movie Anne of Avonlea, I am a little disapointed because I know there is more but that is where the movie ends. But I just found out that a final movie was made, Anne of Green Gables the Continuing Story. So of course I immediately came to Amazon, but they do not carry it. So I am putting in my vote for Amazon to start stocking it on their shelves as I am sure every single Anne of Green Gables fan will want to purchase it.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST MOVIE EVER MADE! Review: This movie to my opinion is the very best. Megan Follows does an excelent job at playing AnnE Shirly. Anne starts out in a very poor living style. Then Marilla and Mathew Cuthbert take her in. She ends up very smart and compettive. This movie is good for all ages.
Rating: Summary: The Continuing Story is a dream come true! Review: I remember being 5yrs. old when I was introduced to the encourageable, red-hed Anne Shirley for the first time. It was quite a thrill. Nearly 15 yrs. later I still feel that much excitement when I watch Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea. Even when I was a little girl, I've always been a romantic and it broke my heart everytime I saw Anne treat Gilbert as just "a chum(friend)" or "kindred spirit" rather than the love of her life which he was destined to be. When I was a little girl, I literally dreamt I was Anne Shirley accepting Gilbert's proposal and marrying him. It seems that even after the mischieveous breaking of slates, pulling of hair, and endless teasing, that those two would fall madly in love. I never quite imaginged Anne with the handsome Morgan Harris of Kingsport. I always liked how Gil kept meeting up with Anne when least expected. Something about the way they looked at each other, that magic on screen, made me believe one day he would stay with Anne for good. Even today, it seemed a mystery to my family and I why Kevin Sullivan didn't produce another film continuing the events in Anne and Gilbert's lives together(along with the rest of the characters). To my great surprise, I tuned into PBS the other day, when I saw Megan Follows sitting in a 1900s setting. Not knowing it was Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story(I didn't even know they had made it) I sat still hoping it would be what I had nearly dreamt about for more than a decade...a closure to what really happens to: Anne and Gilbert(do they end up friends or do they wed?), Diana and Fred(anymore children?), Josie Pye and Moody(does he really end up with HER?), and the entire town of Avonlea...oh yeah...and what more adventures can Anne get into. I think even 15 yrs. later the original cast, along with Kevin Sullivan, could pull off another series. I can tell plenty of viewers would be intrigued to watch that happen...another dream would come true. My only mission left is to get Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story into my collection. P.S. These Films will make you cry and rewind everytime...PSS Amazon please have Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story as soon as it comes out on VHS.
Rating: Summary: Two thumbs up! Review: With most movies you keep fastforwarding to the good scenes, but with "Anne" I just kept rewinding, because I wanted to watch every scene again and again. One of the most genuinely touching and sincere movies I`ve ever seen.
Rating: Summary: An all time Classic Family story Review: This is by far one of my favorite series of movies. I never wanted it to end. Sometimes when I'm feeling down I go on what I can an Anne Marathon and watch both Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea back to back. After the rollercoaster ride of emotions I feel refreshed and ready to face things anew. My best friend does the same thing with the same results. Saying I've watched it at least 20 times would not be an exaggeration. I was fortunate to meet Richard Farnsworth and what I yelled when I realized who it was, was: "MATTHEW!!" I recently saw Anne of Green Gables: The Continuing Story. I've ordered it to add to my Anne collection. Anne of Green Gables is a must for all!! Even the stonehearted.
