Review: SIMPLISTIC VIEW OF THE MEDIA'S RELATIONSHIP WITH ITS CONSUMERS. TYPICAL LEFT-WING SELF GRATIFYING VIEW OF VIOLENCE IN OUR SOCIETY. THIS MOVIE COMPLAINS ABOUT THE EXCESSIVE VIOLENCE IN OUR SOCIETY, THEN SERVES UP SOME OF THE MOST VIOLENT SCEENS IN RECENT MOVIE HISTORY. STONE NEEDS TO LOOK AT HIMSELF BEFORE JUDGING THE REST OF SOCIETY.

Summary: One the 90's greatest films
Review: Great film that shows us how we are only a part of nature and how society defines and views murder as some ultimate evil and not a part of us as humans. It shows how the media feeds the insatiable thirst for violence and glorifies these actions for ratings (ie. Columbine being on all news networks for weeks) and not caring about those involved and those left behind. Excellent, excellent film!

Summary: Truly disturbing
Review: Phew! This is one graphic and disturbing movie. I'm just thankful that I only paid two bucks for the rental and didn't waste more money on it. See it once, make sure it's your kind of movie before you even consider buying it. Natural Born Killers is definitely not in my taste. Take this with a grain of salt as I'm not a big Oliver Stone fan to begin with, and Tarantino is pretty much hit or miss with me.

Review: This is among the best movies of all time. Oliver Stone is at his best here, displaying the American Media's sycophantic obsession with a story. This movie stuck with me for days, weeks, and years after I saw it once, and is still with me now. Violent? Yes. Controversial? Yes. Something everyone should see? Yes.

Summary: Excellent movie, but not for everyone
Review: This is an excellent movie, but a lot of people won't like it. No, I'm not talking about the violence, while it is violent, there are movies with much worse violence than this. I'm talking about the way it was made. Oliver Stone did quite a good job with making this movie truly an experience in a way few movies are. It switches between color and black and white and random, and is often seems almost other-worldly. It is very good, and often very funny with a lot of good satire. This is a movie you should see, it's one of my favorites, but you may not like it. My only real complaint is the lack of use of the brilliant nine inch nails song "Burn" from the soundtrack (NIN is one of my favorite bands) in the movie. It is only used in one small part at the very end, when we see flashing images of Mickey covered with blood, fire, etc. This is a great movie, although, again, it's not for everyone.

Review: Natural Born Killers is arguably one of the finest movies to emerge from the 90's. Essentially NBK is a social commentary for a fast-food audience. The storyline follows the unity of the two lead characters, Mickey (Woody Harrelson) and Mallory (Juliette Lewis) Knox. Their honeymoon leaves behind a steady trail of bodies. The legend of the Knox couple is picked up and aggravated by the popular media, represented in NBK by Wayne Gale (Robert Downey Jr.), who is the star of 'American Maniacs', a clear stab at television exploitation (ie. funniest home video shows, disaster shows, etc) that gain popularity by tapping into the 'morbidity factor'. NBK has received much criticism regarding the frequent and supposedly graphic violence interlaced throughout the movie. Oliver Stone has actually been taken to court regarding a copycat killing, though this is not the place to comment on that. However, from my opinion, there is nothing in NBK that I have not seen before in films, nor is any of the violence overtly graphic, and in no way is it manipulative. The violence is a portrayal, and perhaps criticism, of modern American society. Visually the film is impeccable. Formats switch from B&W to colour, then VCR, then filtered, cartoon, and so on, at a fast pace. Camera angles sway, tilt and pan, mounted one moment and hand-held the next. All this footage is spliced together masterfully in an editing process that took 11 months. The result is wonderful to behold. To describe this movie as a visual masterpiece is an understatement. I would not change a single shot in this two-hour movie, it is as close to perfection as I have seen. The shots are never held for long, a few seconds at most, and cannot be described as epic, but they are edited together in a way that is chocolate for the eyes and ears. The pace of NBK is swift, particularly in the last half-hour (the prison riot scene has to be seen to be believed), switching from the sarcastic tone of the sitcom scene, to the hazy feeling of the 'wedding' scene to the violent frantic pace of the climax. I believe Oliver Stone set out to make a social commentary for the 90's, and I also believe that he succeeded admirably. NBK is not a satire, or a comedy, or a thriller, it is closer to a highly exaggerated high-budget documentary, a look at the way things are and a suggestion at why. The intensity of pace and style will put off more conservative viewers, but then, those are the type of people that read of NBK and automatically slot the movie into the evil, negative basket. Criticism shouldn't be leveled at NBK, instead it should be leveled at society. The movie is a representation of society. And if things are to get better in the real world, we have to at least accept what the real world is. We need more movies of this calibre. Hat's Off to Natural Born Killers.

Summary: Worst Film of the 90's...It Deserves 0 Stars!
Review: I've puzzled over "Natural Born Killers" for a longtime trying to make sense of it. Is it a satire on violence? Is it acomment on the social attitudes toward violence? Who knows? Who cares? I can hardly believe that Quentin Tarantino wrote such an awful screeenplay, considering that I generally like his work. Perhaps it's the fault of Oliver Stone, fresh from having scored a huge miss with the bloated, incredibly poor "JFK". This movie is simply unwatchable, a God-awful mess. It is unclever and takes itself too seriously to be satire, so it must be social commentary. Unfortunately, there are other movies which do a better job of making the point that this film tries to deliver, so it really doesn't break any new ground. "Natural Born Killers" falls flat as either a satire or a message film. The plot is thin, the premise is stupid, and the acting is marginal. Fortunately, Woody Harrelson and Juliette Lewis should be able rise above what has to be one of the worst career choices they've ever made. Kinda makes you wonder whether this is the movie that put Robert Downey Jr. over the edge. The bottom line is that "Natural Born Killers" is a motion picture without a mission other than the glorification of gratuitous violence which has been done, and done better, by other films. I originally had my review entitled "Second Worst Film of the 90's", but after careful reflection I have to say that my initial choice for worst film of the 90's, the overhyped and hackneyed "Titanic", is better by comparison.
