Summary: You wanna play rough?
Review: Al Pacino's Tony Montana is one of the most over the top, gritty characters in recent cinema. He is one of the thousands of Cuban criminals Castro shipped to our shores in the early 80's and from the moment he steps off the boat, he is all about getting himself to the top, to have all the money and power he has heard about. His version of the American dream. Early in the film, he is working as a dishwasher in a local diner. He tells his friend "I didn't come to the United States to break my back". Immediately after this, he is offered 5,000 dollars to make a drug pickup and quits the dishwashing job on the spot.

This encounter leads him to drug kingpin Frank Lopez (Robert Loggia) who takes Montana under his wing and shows him the ropes. Lopez has a mistress, Elvira(Michelle Pfeiffer) who is just along for the drugs and money. Pfeiffer's performance is a disappointment in the film. She is simply there to wear revealing clothing and look stoned, which she does well. After Lopez is killed, she takes up with and marries Montana, almost not caring who it is she is with, just so she gets her fix.

In the process of placing himself at the top of the drug world, Montana sees a blimp flashing the words "The world is yours" at him during the movie. At the end, when he has achieved all he has blindly sought, this mantra is on a neon sign in his mansion. The world he wanted was money and power and I was reminded of the line from Citizen Kane "It's not hard to make a lot of money, if all you want to do is make a lot of money"

As Montana, Pacino is hard core, loud, boastful, and proud. He aligns himself with a Columbian drug lord at the beginning of his rise by promising loyalty. He keeps his word with this man and is later asked to perform another task for him. The result of this request leads to the film's end. He goes out of his way to protect his kid sister from people like him, but in the end this strategy backfires on him as well. His life is unhappy, desperate, and wanting. Once he reached the top, there is a great scene showing him looking at his vast empire with a blank expression on his face. He has it all, yet he has nothing. In the end, happiness in life comes not from money or power or wealth, rather through the relationships one has in life. Tony's life is totally devoid of such meaningful relationships, therefore he is one of the unhappiest men you will ever see.

Summary: Say hello to my awesome DVD
Review: Come on...you know you want it. Scarface is one of the best crime movies ever made. Though it can't possibly live up to the Godfather, it still get's my 5 star rating. The 80s soundtrack does take a little away from the rest of the movie, but Al Pacino can do no wrong in this masterpiece. The extras are alright if you're into all of the behind the scenes sorta stuff, but they remastered the film and that, my readers, is what makes this truly worth your money.

Summary: "The World Is Yours"
Review: What good of a DVD collection without the film "Scarface"? Brian de Palma's 1983 bloody gangster flick with Al Pacino as the unforgettable character Tony Montana is one of my favorite films. The DVD should satisfy every "Scarface" junkie.

Tony Montana is a Cuban refugee who goes to tropical Miami with his pal Manny. Throughout the story he rises from a small-time punk to a major coccaine supplier. Wealth, power, and an ultimate stamp ground in Miami belongs to Montana. Soon his gangster fairy tale has turned upside down and he eventually dies in proud fashion. Pacino is absolutely amazing. The cast and script are also great. There are almost 300 cuss words in this film.

The DVD packs a wallop. It features documentaries on the origin of "Scarface" including the original 1932 version and the creation of the film. It also details how the filmmakers struggled to keep the film from having an 'X' rating. It also has a documentary that interviews the hip-hop nation and how the film revolutionized the industry.

Get the "Scarface" anniversary DVD or I'll "bury you cockaroaches!!"

Summary: An unfortunate association...
Review: This is a brilliant film, and it's great to see it finally getting the full dvd treatment.

My only gripe is that, most unfortunately, the movie has been embraced by the denizens of so-called 'hip-hop culture' and crack-slinging gangstas. These clowns have stolen enough from popular culture, and it's really sad to see Universal pandering to them for a few extra bucks. Most of these 'gangstas' will meet the same end as Tony Montana, and they're not even smart enough to see the irony.

Nonetheless, this is a masterwork for de Palma & Pacino; both times they've worked together (Carlito's Way being the other film) it's been pure magic. Is it too much to hope that they'll work together again? Buy this movie, ignore the street trash, and enjoy its wretched decadence.

Review: wow...scarface is by far the best movie ever created. i recieved the dvd from my girlfriend for christmas and it was one of my best gifts. after watching the movie for 3 hours, i wanted to watch it all over again when it was over, which i would never do with any other movie. usually when i watch a movie, when its done im like ok i wont be watching that for like another 6 months but this movie is UNBELIEVABLE. the music in this movie is so perfect. its awesome how tony montana starts off a nothing, becomes the most popular guy in miami, and then ends being a nothing after getting involved with drugs. if anybody says this movie is bad, that is your opnion. but the FACT, my friends, is that SCARFACE is the best movie ever released...ever... watch it people! Summary: Scarface anniversary Edition!
Review: Scarface is the best movie ever made! Al Pacino is the ambitious young Tony Montana and comes to Miami with his best buddy Manny and also with Angel Fernandez. Tony works his way from a lowely dishwasher to the biggest drug kingpin in Miami. Tony kills Hector, Frank Lopez, Mel the cop, Manny, and million other people in the film. Very depressing movie, it in someways reminds me of Titanic. Both were EXCELLENT 3 hour long movies that both ended on a down note. Watch Both Scarface and Titanic, two of the greatest and most amazing movies of the 20th century.

Summary: In every way an Epic
Review: The 20th Anniversary release of SCARFACE reminds us that our movies of today that deal with violence have not grown more intense than the older films like THE GODFATHER for Italian organized crime and SCARFACE for Cuban/Colombian organized crime. It is difficult to watch this well made movie because of its ultravivid bloodshed, but once past this obstacle there are reasons to revisit Brian DePalma's interpretation of Oliver Stone's screenplay. Al Pacino gives a mighty performance as the title character, managing for most of the film to maintain a Cuban accent adequately. His comrade Manolo is well acted by Steven Bauer, and F. Murray Abraham and Robert Loggia are terrific. It is a joy to see Michelle Pfeiffer and Mary Elizabeth Mastranotonio is such daring roles (they are both even more beautiful and more talented now). If grit and exploitation of the underworld are your cup of tea, then look no further. The new "additives" seem just that - added, but not contributory.

Summary: The Greatest 3 Hour Movie Ever
Review: SCARFACE is one of the greatest movies of all time. I have heard from countless people that this is a good movie and from seeing previews and reading reviews it looked good so I watched it. After seeing for the for the first time, I was blown away by the movie and the somewhat realistic feel the movie had. Al Pacino was excellent in this movie, I have never seen a good Pacino movie {ex: Dick Tracy}. This movie is without a doubt a classic movie, when I say "classic movie" I mean a movie that you can quote constantly, a movie you can't stop talking about, and a movie that you own.

THE DVD: This DVD is a great DVD for any collection or collector. This DVD has no left overs just new stuff. The intresting thing besides the featurettes was the "TV VERISON MONTAGE", that was so funny and intresting cause I don't think people realize the moron things they edit a movie and it goes to cable, i'd like to see that on more special edition DVD's. I own the boxset and its a must for anyone who loves this movie.
