Rating: Summary: one of the greatest thrillers ever made! Review: manyt think this is a real bloody horror movie like its sequel Hanible but that is not the case here. its a thrilling mystery with lots of twists. a great story and wonderful acting. Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster are perfect together. The music is haunting and so are the locations and backgrounds. The end of the film will have you on the edge of your seat. The Criterion Collection edition has adittion features like storyboards and FBI files but no trailers. Thats the only thing stopping me from giving this five stars. I highly recomend this to any thriller fan!
Rating: Summary: "The Cannibal" is his nickname for a reason Review: Yes folks, this man Hannibal Lecter is a cannibal, and for those of you who don't know what a cannibal is, it is a person who eats other people. That is who and what Hannibal Lecter is. I thought it was kind of perverted in a few ways because in one part, this serial killer, Buffalo Bill, made a girl get naked and then he skinned off her vigina and buttox like underwear and wore it. Buffalo Bill was naked during the process. Then he slipped on nylons and put on lip stick, all the while he was thinking about wearing the skin in public, walking up to a guy and saying "will you **** me." That is perverted. Buffalo Bill is sicker than rapists or cannibals. But was amazes me is that Hannibal Lecter knows everything about Buffalo Bill, Hannibal knows Bill's real name, where he lives, what he does, how old he is, who his next victims are going to be, etc. Bill is very perverted in the fact that he starves his victims (which are women) and makes them rub lotion on, and then skins them. But in the end, Dr. Hannibal "The Cannibal" Lecter escapes. Lecter does eat a few people in the movie, but that's all. I enjoyed the movie. I am glad it was made.
Rating: Summary: Great film, shame about the transfer Review: This film is one of the best examples of subtlety. It's use of tempo, music and photography to shock is excellent. The only gripe is that the transfer seems to be poor. There are artifacts all over the screen and is very distracting. I hope that the re-issue is better.
Rating: Summary: I love this movie Review: this movie is a thousand times better then hannibal a must see also check out man hunter
Rating: Summary: VERY GOOD, BUT NOT THE BEST Review: While the DVD boosts some impressive special features, this edition is still not in the same league as the now unavailable Criterion Collection Edition. If you can't find that, then this is the next best thing.---Dan
Rating: Summary: Very Improved Review: This MGM Special edition of Silence of the Lambs on DVD is greatly improved of the old Orion home video DVD. I currently own the Orion edition, and was disappointed that there were NO special features. Now that the special edition is coming, I'll definitely have to get it. It has commentaries, behind-the-scenes, and much more, while the older DVD had nothing (besides the movie, which is great anyway). Also coming soon (on the same date) is Hannibal, the sequel, also by MGM. Be sure to buy both, for they are both great films, but Silence of the Lambs is still more powerful! This is a great addition to any DVD collection, so buy it!
Rating: Summary: Spend the Money - It's a Must Have!! Review: This was the movie that totally freaked me out since my father took me to see "Jaws" when I was 4-years old. I was horrified yet I couldn't help but continue to want to see more. Kind of like driving past an accident on the highway. The scene where Clarice descends down into the dark pit of the hospital for the criminally insane, while rules such as,"DO NOT APPROACH THE GLASS!" and, "DO NOT TOUCH THE GLASS!" are being barked out, is the best set up I've seen as an introduction to the "villian." I had no idea what to expect next. What I received was the coolest, smartest, most interesting psycho that Jonathan Demme and Anthony Hopkins created for film. You couldn't help but like Lector and his ability as a psychiatrist to help Agent Starling confront her limitations and failures so as to live up to her expectations. Yet, the look of calm on his face while he's bludgeoning the face of the guard with the nightstick is so frightening. The film always had me on the edge of my seat trying to solve the case along with Starling. The story never dawdled. I wish this was true with "Hannibal", which took too long to reintroduce the characters with each other. But, that is a seperate review. A brilliant film, capturing the five major Academy Awards for it's year(1991). This film is a modern classic. The Criterion Collection Edition of this film is a must have. It is well worth the... that it is currently valued. Special Features include: Commentary by Demme, Foster and Hopkins, screenwriter Ted Tally and FBI agent John Douglas; Seven deleted scenes(with commentary); Storyboards and a comparison to actual scenes in the film; FBI crime classification manual; Voices of Death: word-for-word statements of convicted serial killers. I'm a huge fan of Special Features. Widescreen and the ability to watch a movie in French don't cut it. My thinking is: If you have the room, slap something on there. Otherwise, what a waste. The DVD comes with different cover art on its jewel box case than what is shown on this site. The front is mostly Jodie Foster's face on the left with two small boxes on the right that show Lector's eyes(in red light) and Buffalo Bill's hand touching Agent Starling's hair(in green light). The background is black with a dark blue Death's Head moth. This is the what to look for when buying a copy in order to get all the extras.
Rating: Summary: Creepy... Review: This is a film full of atmosphere. Creepy atmosphere at that. In thirty minute of screentime, Hopkins manages to make your skin crawl. Foster does a great job as troubled FBI agent Clarice Starling. She makes a strong counterpoint to Lector. The film gets gruesome, but it is a clever and chilling. The DVD offers up even more...disturbing information, especially in the section of transcripts from real serial killers.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Translation Review: One of the best translations from books to movies ever. One of the best movies ever. Harris is a great writer. Perhaps if Scott would have adapted Hannibal to the big screen like this was adapted, we might have had at least one good movie in the first 4 months of 2001.
Rating: Summary: That demonic grin Review: This movie is one of the best I've ever scene. It has a great script, cast, story, and title. Anthony Hopkins was incredible as Dr. Hannibal Lector and we can't forget about Jody Foster. It also has one of the best endings a movie could have. The movie is a plesure to watch and your knowledge of movies will never be complete if you don't see "The Silence of the Lambs". However there is one side effect, you'll go away wearing that demonic grin that can only escape after you've watched a truly creepy and wonderful movie.
