Rating: Summary: Better the second time around Review: PRIMAL FEAR is one of those rare movies that improves with age. Not that it wasn't a fine film when released: the complexities of the story took front seat as well they should. After not having to figure out how the interplay is going to work, it is a pleasure to sit and just respect the fine casting, writing, directing, editing and acting. Richard Gere once again proves he is a taut actor, Laura Linney gives an Oscar worthy performance, of course Edward Norton is a tour de force performance, but the joys come in the cameos by Andre Braugher, Frances McDormand, Alfre Woodward, Steve Bauer, John Seda, etc. This is fine ensemble playing in a beautifully photographed and scored thriller. See it again!
Rating: Summary: Maybe I am missing something... Review: Perhaps I am just too stupid to 'get' it. Maybe I missed something. I failed to see much merit in this film. The story is simply sensationalistic, involving pornography, multiple-personality disorders (of the Hollywood variety) and mutilation, but all with no discernable point other than to thrill. The characters are flat, the romantic subplot seems disjointed and only quite arbitrarily related to the rest of the plot, and everything seems to be sorely lacking in invention and meaning. Edward Norton does turn in a good performance, but should have saved his acting talents for something worthier.
Rating: Summary: One amazing movie Review: I can't say enough about this amazing film, all of the actors in it were great. I have to say that Edward Norton should have won the Oscar for his excellent preformance as Aaron/Roy. (Although the Academy Awards are funny like that.. Leonardo Dicaprio should have won for What's Eating Gilbert's Grape) My advice to anyone who wants to watch a great movie...buy or rent it and you will be glad you did.
Rating: Summary: AMAZING MOVIE Review: I had to view this movie for a class and can't say enough great things about it. I am in the psych field and even I was stumped by it. The acting, music and everything are thrilling!
Rating: Summary: A Must-See Movie Review: As the first big role I had seen Edward Norton in, I was amazed. Norton became a favorite actor of mine after seeing American History X (Norton, Edward Furlong). His ability to get into a role and convince you that he is not an actor at all but actually the character he plays is uncanny. Richard Gere graced the screen once again in a wonderfully written script which kept you guessing and intrigued you for every second of the movie. Gere and Norton were a winning combination, playing off of each other as if they had been working together forever. The script was amazing, the acting was amazing, and most of all, the movie left you with a hard-hitting feeling that you had to sit down and think for a half an hour just to take in the beauty of it all. I recommend this movie 110%.
Rating: Summary: HITCHCOCK TWIST Review: Keeps you guessing throughout the movie....I sat on the edge of my seat - at times holding my breath. When I saw Ed Norton....I knew this guy could ACT and would go far in this field.
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT SUSPENSE Review: A. Hitchcock style - Ed Norton stole the movie. Suspense that keeps you hooked. Will tell no more as I would not want to give away anything for someone who has not seen!
Rating: Summary: Unbelievable Ending! Review: Although Primal Fear can be slow moving at times, because of the many court scenes...it is an amazing movie. Edward Norton is a wonderful actor, and fully represents this within the movie. It is amazing how his character develops from the beginning of the movie to the end. And what amazes me even more is how he plays a stuttering preacher boy, and later on plays a nazi full of hate a few years later in American History X. Primal Fear is a must see movie! Norton and Richard Gere develop true chemistry through out the entire movie. And although the movie is slow moving, the ending leaves you speechless and wanting more.
Rating: Summary: Good Richard Gere vehicle Review: Richard Gere is an underrated actor, mostly due to his poor choice of projects and his general failure to recognize that he has a limited range--although he is good within that range. Here, he seems to have recognized those twin facts and decides to play within his range--an impeccably coiffed, slightly shady but basically decent professional, who is forced to deal with some ugly truths after he blithely fights for the wrong person. His understated performance nicely counterpoints Edward Norton's bravura turn rather than being overwhelmed by it. Edward Norton sure had me fooled about his character. I think this was his movie debut, and it's a terrific one. The one weak performance in this movie comes from Laura Linney, whose acclaim as an actress has always puzzled me. I think she's horrible in this movie--twitchy and annoying, and her truly ugly hairstyle doesn't help--and she's failed to impress me with any of her other performances, despite the accolades that critics throw her way.
Rating: Summary: A cure for insomnia. Review: A run of the mill courtroom drama type thing with a nice twist at the end which, unfortunately, doesn't come through because the film is so long and, frankly, tedious. Could have done with more suspense, and I've seen much better courtroom scenes in almost any courtroom drama you care to name. I don't like this Gere chappie either. The smarm around women, that "Aren't I just God's gift to women" smile, just makes me want to puke! Sometimes I am not even sure which bit ties in where in the film, like when that Spanish guy is dragged out of the river, and what about the police chief, or whatever he is? What happens to him? Too many loose ends! The plot stretches belief too much to make viewing enjoyable. Imagine this: Gere has taken on an open and shut case in favour of the opposition and, after the first session in court, he turns to his collegues and says, "I'm losing this case!" What the hell do you expect? I hate the arrogant type that Hollywood likes to cast for lawyers these day. And my last moan is the title. You can imagine the author thinking "Hmm, I need a really cool title for this mediocre story...how about "Basic Instinct"..oh, somebody already thought of it ...I know lets call it "Primal Fear" because it sounds really alluring even though it doesn't have anything to do with the film/book" I have a new title for you. How about "Tedious Arrogance" or "Nauseous Smarm" or "Too long"?
