Rating: Summary: WAS THERE A DEMAND FOR A SPECIAL EDITION? Review: I guess the Bodyguard was a fairly big hit when it came out in 1992. Whitney Houston was the top pop Diva in the business, cranking out hit after hit and Kevin Costner was fresh from a string of hits including Bull Durham, Field of Dreams, Dances With Wolves, and JFK, and was among the very top of the Hollywood stars at the time. So it certainly must have seemed like a great idea to get these two top stars together in an effort to capitalize on their popularity, only there is little chemistry between the pair and Whitney Houston would do only a couple of more movies after this one...a testament to her acting ability or lack thereof.
Costner plays former CIA agent Frank Farmer who is hired by Rachel Marron's (Houston's) management team to hand the pop star's security as she has been receiving death threats. Frank immediately upsets Rachel and her entourage as they think that his methods are way too strict and confining. But Frank is haunted by the fact that he was a Member of President Reagan's Secret Service guard and he blames himself for Reagan being shot. Of course, timeline wise it's not the best fit. Costner was only in his late 30's when this film had come out and had he been an agent for Reagan that would make him only early 20's or so. I don't think I recall seening any twenty-something agents guarding the President but I am probably being too picky.
I've always found Costner, although a likable guy, to be rather bland. That actually helps him here mainly because he acts like a dull bodyguard who is required to show absolutely no feelings whatsoever. His character basically walks around with a single expression on his face throughout the film, including while he's on a date with Whitney and the night after their affair.
The one plus was Whitney's tear-jerking remake of the Dolly parton song "I Will Always Love You", but beyond that there is just not much to recommend of this film and the meager special features hardly qualify this as a "special edition".
Rating: Summary: made me cry a little. Review: I had never before seen this movie in my life until i rented it from my local corporate owned video store. I kind of always wanted to see it but have always passed it by (for nearly 10 years!). I must say that Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston both did fairly decent jobs acting; I do believe that they have both improved their abilitys greatly since this movie debut. There were alot of the typical "cheap" tugging at the strings to get the audience to become emotionally invested with the movie which i believe that some movies do need in order to have and recieve a more successful feel to them... hey what can i say it worked on me!
Rating: Summary: a fantastic film worth every penny spent on making it Review: I have seen The Bodyguard about 100 times now and will continue to watch it until i wear the video out and have to buy a new copy. Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner were brilliant and were in my opinion made for there parts in the film, overall i enjoyed this movie and it has bcome on of my favorite films, the only part that i thought was bad was the ending I mean she goes one way and he goes the other, although the song "I Will Always Love You", says it all I think they should have been kept together and he should have stayed her bodyguard which would have made for interesting viewing.
Rating: Summary: A GREAT MOVIE FOR EVERONE! Review: I thought this movie was incredible. It was written very well and had good actors in it. I thought that Costner and Houston were great together. They were made for the roles. I thought that it had a good variation of action, romance, suspense, and a little comedy. It is one of my favorite movies. I love the soundtrack too. The only thing I was disapointed with was the ending. I thought it was a little sad. I was hoping for a different ending but I guess then it wouldn't work out for the music. But I thought it was a great movie for everyone.
Rating: Summary: The best movie of all time Review: I've seen a lot of movies in my lifetime, and I am usually really picky when it comes to giving a movie great credits. But I will really give this movie a rate of 5 stars - both for story, filming, actors, best soundtrack and best costumes. This is the best movie I've ever seen - and I still mean this 6 years after I saw it for the first time.
Rating: Summary: Average film with superior soundtrack Review: It's a film which soundtrack better than movie itself! So,if you wanna buy this, why don't go for music instead?
Rating: Summary: Another Case When Soundtrack is Better Than The Movie Review: It's Kevin Costner to the rescue to save Whitney Houston from a vengeful stalker.
Whitney Houston made her film debut with this film co-starring and produced by Kevin Costner. The film got mixed reviews ( more bad than good ) and didn't do so great at the box office. It was the music that was the ultimate highlight. Without Whitney's hit soundtrack, The Bodyguard would have sunk faster than the Titanic.
The Bodyguard disappoints from the getgo with it's half-done plot and unbelievable script. Kevin Costner is disappointing. Back then he'd finished Dances With Wolves and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves. His career had never been so high but the bomb of The Bodyguard proved it only takes one film to slow down a career. The major flaw was Whitney Houston. Whitney's acting was terrible despite this being her first film. I was disappointed because I've seen Whitney acting on sitcoms from the 80s and her acting was better then than it was in The Bodyguard. Costner and Houston had no chemistry. Why did they have to be romantically involved? Oh...I remember...to sell those sappy love songs on the soundtrack. That had to be the only reason because the film would have been better without the forced love story. Whitney's character was unbelievable. No one is so self-centered that they will risk their life just to go shopping. Nothing added up and if it wasn't for the soundtrack this film wouldn't be memorable at all. But now that it's twelve years later the soundtrack is even forgettable. Can't really recommend this DVD. There were no extra features and the movie was only available in standard! WB has to do better with their DVDs. The Bodyguard has some entertaining points but it can't hold its own with acting, plot or excitement.
Skip the film but buy the soundtrack. " I Have Nothing " is one of the most beautiful songs ever made.
Rating: Summary: Are you sick Review: Its sad that a movie like this that contains no script or story plot is labeled a great movie and is given better reviews than Mariah Carey's Glitter which contained a story and plot.Come on just think about it. I love Whitney as a singer though. Visit my site: http://www.mjacksononline.tripod.com
