Rating: Summary: SIMPLY ONE OF THE BEST MOVIES!! Review: I would not compare SLING BLADE to TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD but they both share some things, such as the ultimate Southern grotesques (Boo Radley and Karl Childers). I love the dark Southern Gothic flavor that SLING BLADE presents so beautifully - it moves slow like cane syrup but strangely its far from being boring..it will grab you from the first scene and never let you go. SLING BLADE still haunts me to this day from the night I first saw it - that was more than two years ago! See it and you will be happy.
Rating: Summary: Don't bother Review: Don't bother. Critics went nuts for this tripe, but there is no reason for anyone else to. This is pretty much Forest Gump for the arthouse crowd, with all the sludge that this description implies.
Rating: Summary: YUCK!!!! Review: Along with "Weekend at Bernies" this is one of the worst movies in recent memory. In some ways this is even worse. At least "Bernie's" was recognized as the trash that it was, while this one was lapped up by critics longing for "hillbilly chic."It is time once and for all for someone to proclaim as loudly as possible that the emperor has no clothes.
Rating: Summary: This is what passes for great film making? Review: I think that the New Yorker magazine said it best when it called this movie "dunderheaded." Why this movie was so highly priased by most other critics will always be one of the great mysteries on cinema. Full of one note acting,(who on eath thought Dwingt Yokum could act?) and a dull as dishwater script, this is the type of movie that gives the term "arthouse" a bad name.
Rating: Summary: One of the best movies we've ever seen! Review: We had heard this was a good movie upon returning from Germany in 1997. We didn't believe it due to the "slasher-type" title. Boy, were we wrong. We rented it and watched it three times in one weekend! something we never do. I loved the character, Karl, and how he showed so much compassion, much more than many "normal" people can. We have recommended this movie over and over and will continue to do so. It is on our list of the best movies ever!
Rating: Summary: This movie is SPELLBINDING Review: Every nuance in this movie is sublime. Thornton assembles stunning cinematography, a menacing and melancholy soundtrack, flawless scripting, his own deft direction and stunning performances (who would've thought Dwight Yoakam could act?) to create a true masterpiece of horror, tragedy and redemption. If you haven't seen it yet, don't waste a second longer. Even the Coen Brothers' sublime "Fargo" is a lesser film.
Rating: Summary: One of the best movies I've seen. Review: An incredible film that can't be missed. This movie is by no means boring and to say that would be an insult. It should be enjoyed by anyone (unless your idea of a top notch film is Weekend at Bernies).
Rating: Summary: Heresy! Review: To compare this movie with "To Kill A Mockingbird" is nothing short of heresy."Mockingbird" is a deeply moving tale of human dignity and value. "Sling Blade" is full of southern sterotypes and cliches, with out any hint of character motification and nuance. The fact that this movie has been so highly praised and honored just shows how far our pop culture has fallen.
Rating: Summary: Yawn! Review: Yawn. Critic's darling Billy Bob Thornton (they just love his name) comes up with a totally forgettable script and a bunch of dull characters, to make a film that all his press buddies praise. The rest of us were bored silly. Don't bother.
Rating: Summary: The worst! Review: Implausible tripe full of cardboard characterzations and one note performances. Forget the hype, this movie is an art house dud - dead on arrival.
